Is Dave Bautista jumping ship and joining James Gunn in the new DCU?
Both Dave Bautista and James Gunn have teased a possible meeting in regards to the DCU. The pair posted the same photo on their Instagram stories which shows the actor sitting in Gunn’s parking space.
“Hey, Dave Bautista, I can’t believe you’re parking your body in my space,” posted Gunn.
While it is not known exactly what is meant by the photo, Dave Bautista has made it pretty clear he wants to join the DCU. The actor who played Drax for Gunn in the Marvel movies has previously said he wants to play Bane.

Bautista also said he’s done with Marvel.
“We all had those perfect character arcs and such a storybook ending. I constantly relate it to the way I ended my wrestling career. I ended it on a storybook note. And I would never go back and tarnish that,” he said nine months ago while appearing on The Tonight Show. “And it’s the same with this…With Drax, I just got to end the perfect way. And I would never sign up for another job as Drax just to get a paycheck. I would tarnish that [perfect ending], and I won’t do it.”
Regarding Bane, it seems he won’t be playing the character, as he had a meeting with Gunn in January, but maybe this new meeting is about a new character in the DCU? How about Brainiac, said to be the big villain of brainiac?
“I have had conversations with James about that but I think the direction he’s leaning in, completely rebooting that whole universe, he’s starting from scratch and starting younger and fresher and I think you need to do that,” said Bautista at the time. “I think for the DC Universe to be revived, you need to start from scratch, and I think you need to start with younger actors. You need to start to plan for the next 15 years, and I just don’t think you can do that with me. And I understand that.”
Marvel turned down a Drax movie
Years ago also saw the actor offer he fought for a Drax movie, but Marvel said no.
“You know, I really wish they would tell more of the story of Drax’s family. I think it’s a beatutiful story, and I think it’s been lost and overlooked a little bit,” Dave Bautista said. “It’s a beautiful and heartbreaking emotional thing to know where that love for his family and that heartbreak over his family being lost and murdered, where it comes from I think.”
He continued, “I really wish they would touch upon it more, and I think the fans would like to see it more, which is why I really pushed and fought for the Drax standalone film, but I don’t think it’s ever going to happen,” Dave Bautista explained. “But I really wish they would because I think there’s a story to be told there, and I think the fans would really love to see that story, even if it’s not me portraying Drax, I just still think it is an interesting story to tell.”
