The first batch of Venom: The Last Dance reviews are hitting Rotten Tomatoes, and the critics aren’t holding back.
Worth a mention is the critics didn’t like either of the first two flicks, and they actually gave Let There Be Carnage a higher score than the first Venom.
The Rotten Tomatoes Score from the critics for the first Venom stands at only 30%; for Let There Be Carnage, it’s at 57%.
The Rotten Tomatoes fan scores are 80% for the first Venom and 84% for Let There Be Carnage, pretty much the same.
What is the Venom: The Last Dance Rotten Tomatoes score?
With the first 57 reviews, Venom 3 has a 40% Rotten Tomatoes Score.
Thursday update: With 71 reviews, the score has dropped to 37%.
Friday update: With 109 reviews from the critics, the score is at 37%; the fan score is at 77%.
The reviews are largely mixed to negative with some critics acknowledging its fun moments, while many others express disappointment. The general consensus from the critics is that while Venom: The Last Dance offers chaotic fun and visual spectacle, many critics feel it lacks depth and originality, and struggles to find the right tone.
Again bear in mind the critics didn’t like the first two movies. I thought the first Venom was a lot better than the second. Venom 3 debuted today in China and the Chinese feel similar. They rated Venom 2 a 5.5 and gave Venom 3 a 9.0. That’s a huge difference.
As I have been stating, word-of-mouth from fans is going to make or break the flick.
Venom: The Last Dance opens Thursday with previews and officially on Friday. Box office estimates are on the lower side with a $65M opening, much less than Venom‘s $80M and Venom 2’s $90M.
