The Batman: Part II Tease Has Fans Chasing A Detective Comics Clue

The Batman: Part II is officially rolling, and the first wave of teases is already here: a new official logo, a first look at Jim Gordon, and a Matt Reeves set photo that has fans convinced he’s hidden a comic-book clue in plain sight.

The Official Logo Is Here

The film’s social accounts have unveiled the official The Batman: Part II logo, and it keeps the look of the first movie, with the same distressed, blood-red bat treatment, now with “Part II” beneath it and DC Studios branding up top.

That’s worth a note, because the bat symbol spotted on cameras and gear during the Liverpool set leaks was a cooler blue-and-white version, which had some fans wondering whether Reeves was lightening the palette.

The official marketing logo says otherwise: this is still the red, rain-soaked Gotham you remember.

Detective Comics 812

Matt Reeves’ Clock Tease And The Detective Comics #812 Theory

Following his “first shot” reveal, Reeves dropped another from-the-set image: a Robert Pattinson Batman Funko Pop standing guard next to a digital clock on the production sound cart. The clock reads 8:12, and that’s where fans went to work.

The theory making the rounds is that 8:12 is a nod to Detective Comics #812. That issue is part of David Lapham’s “City of Crime” storyline, a sprawling Gotham noir built around civic rot, a crooked mayoral election, and the city’s criminal underbelly, the exact territory The Batman mined with the Riddler, Mayor Mitchell’s murder, and Bella Réal’s campaign.

If the reference is intentional, it doesn’t point to a specific new villain so much as a direction: more of the corruption-soaked detective story the first film leaned into.

It would also line up with the morgue-like body glimpsed in Reeves’ first shot, which already suggested the sequel is doubling down on the murder-mystery angle.

The grain of salt: the clock plainly shows “AM” and “MON,” so there’s a very real chance it’s just… 8:12 in the morning on set. Reeves loves a breadcrumb, but he hasn’t said a word, so file this one firmly under fan speculation.

Jeffrey Wright Confirms Gordon Is Back

Reeves isn’t the only one posting.

Jeffrey Wright took to Instagram with an extreme close-up of his mustache — a first look at his returning Jim Gordon — captioned, “it begins again. You know what time it is.”

It’s a small thing, but it confirms Wright is on set and shooting, and the “you know what time it is” line plays nicely into the clock motif Reeves has going.

The comments, naturally, were a parade of Gotham one-liners and mustache jokes.

Everything We Know

The teases follow Reeves officially confirming filming is underway with his first-shot post earlier this week.

The sequel reunites Pattinson, Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell — who recently said he’s only in two scenes — with newcomers Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Sebastian Koch, and Brian Tyree Henry, the last two of whom are at the center of the sequel’s swirling villain rumors.

Pattinson, for his part, is promising something fresh, calling the script “so good” and teasing that this will be “a really different type of Batman movie.”

Matt Reeves directs from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, with Erik Messerschmidt shooting.

The Batman: Part II hits theaters October 1, 2027.
