Sony and Tom Hardy have an undoubtable hit on their hands with Venom as the movie had a massive box office opening in China, the #2 market worldwide.
Venom scored a $111 million debut in China, which is more than its $80 million U.S. debut from early October.
The number also gives it the 2nd highest debut ever for a superhero film in China, following Marvel’s The Avengers: Infinity War.
Venom‘s box office now stands at a near $700 million:
U.S.: $206,233,603
Foreign: $467,300,000
Worldwide: $673,533,603
It’s known that Tom Hardy has signed on for a trilogy, so possibly Sony could be making an announcement soon about the potential sequels.
Woody Harrelson will be starring in the Venom sequel as Carnage.
Reports have also offered that Sony wants Tom Hardy and Venom to connect to Tom Holland and Spider-Man, and maybe even the MCU and the Avengers.
With the success of Venom will come Sony’s new Spider-Man spinoff universe, with the next movie being Jared Leto’s Morbius the Living Vampire movie, which is said to start filming next year.
Sony has also let it be known they have plans for solo Black Cat, Silver Sable, Kraven the Hunter, Knightwatch and Silk movies.
