Helen Mirren Backs Tom Hardy’s MobLand Return: ‘In A F—ing Heartbeat’

Helen Mirren just made it crystal clear where she stands on Tom Hardy, and at the same time, the trades are now confirming what we’ve been telling you for weeks: MobLand isn’t moving forward without Harry Da Souza.

Speaking at the Taormina Film Festival in Sicily, where she’s receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award, Mirren was asked by Variety whether she would work with Hardy again following the reports that the actor was getting fired from MobLand Season 3 over alleged behavior on set.

Her answer: “Absolutely. In a f—ing heartbeat.”

Mirren went on to defend Hardy’s approach to the work, explaining that different actors have different processes and that some performers simply take longer to get where they’re going, and that as long as the result on screen is fantastic, she has no problem with how anyone gets there.

She called Hardy a special person and a remarkable actor, and stressed that her support of him is genuine.

That support isn’t new. Back in late May, Mirren publicly backed Hardy on Instagram as the firing reports were blowing up, something we covered as fan backlash mounted over the possibility of MobLand continuing without him.

Variety Confirms: Talks Underway For Hardy’s Return

Here’s the part Paramount+ buried in the middle of a festival interview: Variety states it has confirmed that discussions are underway to find a way for Hardy to come back to the show.

That tracks exactly with what the situation always demanded.

As we laid out, MobLand without Tom Hardy was likely dead on arrival β€” Harry Da Souza is the show. The series became Paramount+’s most-watched original on the back of Hardy’s performance, and the idea of recasting or writing around him never passed the smell test.

It also lines up with the messier picture that emerged from the start, when the exit rumors first surfaced alongside reshoot reports, and later when on-set rumors collided with the Season 3 marketing push.

The reporting was always unconfirmed β€” Variety itself notes the firing reports were never verified β€” and now the momentum has clearly swung toward bringing Hardy back.

Mirren: MobLand Will Go Forward β€” ‘Even Better’

Mirren also made it plain she expects the show to continue.

She praised the powerful creative team behind MobLand and acknowledged that when strong artistic personalities work together, the process gets challenging, as people get their “knickers in a twist,” as she put it. But her bottom line was unambiguous: the show will go forward, and it will be even better.

Coming from Mirren β€” who plays matriarch Maeve Harrigan opposite Hardy and Pierce Brosnan β€” that’s about as strong an internal signal as you’re going to get short of an official Paramount+ announcement.

So the state of play: the firing reports were never confirmed, Hardy’s most powerful co-star is publicly demanding his return, and the trades now confirm Paramount+ is in talks to make it happen.
