DC Animated Shows & Cartoon Network Series Being Yanked From Netflix

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19519:]]

You have about 25 days left to watch the DC Animated shows on Netflix as well as the Cartoon Network series.

According to the Netflix queue, the shows will be available until March 30th.

This includes the DC shows: Justice League Unlimited, Justice League (2001), Young Justice, Batman Beyond, Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Batman: The Brave and The Bold.

And the Cartoon Network shows: Regular Show, Adventure Time, Ben 10, The Grimm Adventures Of Billy and Mandy, Generator Rex, MAD, Dexter’s Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, Samurai Jack, Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends, Ed, Ed N Eddy, Codename Kids Next Door, and Cow and Chicken.

It’s unknown if the contract simply expires on that date and just needs to be renewed, or if WB is pulling the plug.

It’s possible WB could be coming up with their own digital streaming service, such as they did with HBO Go, which launches this Spring for $15 a month.

Maybe the WB/CN shows will now be found on HBO Go?

Cosmic Book News questioned WB about it and is currently waiting a response back. We’ll update with more when it’s available.

In the meantime, you may want to get watching your favorite shows listed above.

Damien Darhk Rumored For Arrow Season 4 Villain

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19487:]]

Arrow may have a new villain by the end of the Season 3 finale.

TV Line is reporting the Arrow Season 3 finale will introduce a “major, formidable, fierce new foe” for Oliver Queen.

It’s said the new villain’s “reign of terror” will continue into Season 4.

According to the report, the mystery character is being referred to as “Damian Dark.”

Note: Some outlets have mistakenly speculated it to be the son of Bruce Wayne, Damien Wayne, but I doubt a ten year old is going to be an opponent on the show for Arrow.

There is a character in the DC Comics with the name Damian Darkh, who is a 20-ish underworld figure who has access to advanced technology and often scraps with the Teen Titans.

Here is the description of the character from wiki:

Baby-faced Damien Darhk was a mysterious, elusive, and dangerous figure. He claimed to be a major player in America’s underworld and certainly had some connection to the criminal organization H.I.V.E. He also seemed to have had access to unique high-tech equipment that has never been used by any known organization. Darhk was considered to be a major criminal by the C.I.A. and F.B.I.; however, their investigations revealed no hard evidence against him. He was a wi-fi fiend, staying in touch with associates by the very latest forms of mass communication. What particularly baffled investigators was his apparent youth; Damien seemed to be in his early twenties yet was already well-established and well-connected.

Marc Guggenheim Talks Vixen Animated Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18704:]]

A couple of months ago saw WB announce the new Vixen animated series, which is set in the same universe as Arrow and The Flash.

Now EP Marc Guggenheim sheds some light on the project.

“We’re going to do basically an animated spinoff,” Guggenheim told SciFiNow. “It’s a six-part origin story, but characters from The Flash and Arrow are prominently involved. It’s in the continuity and the world.”

Guggenheim also says Grant Gustin of The Flash and Stephen Amell of Arrow may appear.

“The response has been very favorable,” Guggenheim offered. “I can’t speak for them, but all signs are good.”

It’s also possible that some time down the line Vixen could turn in to a live-action show, which Guggenheim says he is open to.

“If the character resonates with people, that would be wonderful,” said Guggenheim. “I would love to be in a position where CW said to us, ‘Hey, we want a Vixen live-action show.’ We’ll have to see how things play out.”

Vixen is set to debut on the CW’s digital offshoot propery, Seed, in the Fall.

Luke Cage Series Is Geared Toward Adults Says Mike Colter

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19482:]]

While speaking about the Halo series, Mike Colter lets it be known the new Luke Cage Marvel Netflix series is being aimed at adults.

“It’s geared towards an adult audience, which is something that will be different from the Marvel Cinematic Universe that you’ve seen before on the big screen,” Mike Colter told IGN.

Colter, who plays Locke in the Halo: Nightfall series, continues with mention how excited he is to play the role.

“I’m excited about playing the character because I’ve read the comic books,” Colter said. “They’re very detailed, gritty; the world they’ve written in the comic books is very clear. Marvel does a fantastic job about bringing human stories – because you’re telling big stories with a heart at the center of it – and that’s what connects all of the characters to our audience members. Audience members have to feel connected with these characters, to make them relate to the character’s situations and that’s what you see with all of the Marvel characters.”

Colter will first be appearing in the Jessica Jones series before Luke Cage launches, and Colter says he is happy with what he sees.

“What I’m most excited about is touching on what makes him tick. It feels good to get a character that has such a story, background, and history,” Colter offered. “And when I look at the scripts, I’m really pleased with it because it’s a slow-burn; there’s nothing happening really fast that gets ahead of itself. I’m really with where they’re taking it and how they’re developing the characters, because it’s really cool and it’s geared towards an adult audience, which is something that will be different from the Marvel Cinematic Universe you’ve seen before on the big screen.”

Colter also offers the following about the series approach, which will be different than some of the Marvel movies.

“We have a more gritty, focused story on our heroes and characters that live in New York City, but it’s geared towards a more adult audience and I think that’s the thing about the series that will be different.”

Daredevil premiers on April 10th which launches the Marvel Netflix shows.

Stephen Amell & Colton Haynes Tease Major Death In Arrow

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19472:]]

Things don’t look good for one presently unknown cast member on Arrow as Stephen Amell and Colton Haynes have teased what looks to be the death of possibly a major character.

“Sometimes real feelings creep into a scene,” Amell tweeted earlier. “Goodbyes are tough. Even when they’re scripted.”

Amell continued on Facebook: “Putting the finishing touches on our 65th episode tonight. It features one of the most emotional, touching and heartfelt scenes we’ve ever produced. Everyone was equal to the task. Long day, but a good one.”

Colton Haynes, who plays Roy Harper, also tweeted similar sentiments: “What a rough night. Probably the most difficult day I’ve had at work in my life. So many emotions all around that couldn’t be controlled.”

Episode 19 is presently being filmed for this season, which aptly enough is titled “Broken Arrow.”

Previous seasons saw characters killed off including Tommy Merlyn, Moira Queen, Canary (though it appears Caity Lotz is coming back somehow), Isabel Rochev and Sebastian Blood.

Any ideas who could be on the chopping block for Season 3?

First Look At Vincent D’Onofrio As Kingpin

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19445:]]

Check out a first look image below at Vincent D’Onofrio as the villain of the Daredevil Netflix series, Wilsin Fisk, aka The Kingpin.

USA Today posted the image including comments by D’Onofrio and showrunner Steven DeKnight.

D’Onofrio on Kingpin:

I just brought in this kind of character who in one sentence could easily go from being a child to a monster, depending on where his emotions take him. I wanted him to have an appearance of being super-powerful so that when he throws a punch, it’s a major punch. There’s a lot of weight behind it.

DeKnight on D’Onofrio:

He had a passion and an understanding of what we were trying to do, of making it a very grounded, gritty, realistic show. Here is an actor who’s really thinking about it on not only a character depth but a visual depth that I really loved.

Daredevil premiers with all 13 episodes on April 10th.

William Shatner Arrives In LA; Unconfirmed For Nimoy’s Funeral

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19441:]]

William Shatner previously tweeted he would be unable to attend the funeral of Leonard Nimoy, who passed away due to complications from end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Shatner let it be known he was going to a Red Cross charity ball on Saturday night instead of the funeral.

Now Shatner may have had a change of heart as it’s reported that William Shatner landed in Los Angeles around noon.

It’s unclear if Shatner arrived in time for Leonard Nimoy’s funeral or if that was just his normal landing time, which may have been after the funeral.

Twitter and social media sites have been ablaze with with comments from fans regarding Shatner’s decision (possibly) not to attend.

On one hand, Shatner claims Nimoy is like a brother to him, yet how many out there wouldn’t attend their brother’s funeral?

On the other hand, fans argue to leave Shatner alone and let him mourn in his own way (he didn’t attend Gene Roddenberry’s funeral, either).

Of course, there is the argument that Shatner could have just kept quiet through the whole thing and not turned it into a Twitter spectacle by announcing he wouldn’t be able to attend the funeral, but offering instead, to have a Twitter tribute to Nimoy.

Regardless what’s what, Shatner may have rectified the situation by attending the funeral of Leonard Nimoy, but again, it’s not yet confirmed that he has.

Power/Rangers Back On YouTube; Joseph Khan Comments

The controversial Power/Rangers fan-film by director Joseph Khan and producer Adi Shankar is back on YouTube with over 12 million views after being taken down by the request of Saban Entertainment over copyright issues.

As Power/Rangers is now back on YouTube, Khan has obviously asserted he owns the rights to the film as it falls under “pardoy” copyright laws, which enables someone to imitate another’s work (short explanation).

Joseph Khan recently participated in a Reddit QnA where he did state he signed papers to the effect.

I am literally at my agent’s office signing paperwork right now to get it back on. You should see it soon. Internet YOU WON.

Khan also explains why his Power/Rangers fan-film is not a PG-13 version.

I’m not a studio blaming guy. This business is run by people and people are all flawed and nuts. Especially in the creative field. We are all fucking insane. I think the biggest problem is the R rating. In POWER/RANGERS was making a point about the ratings system. The people who want me to tone this down and make this a “PG-13” version – you know how I do that? Take out a few fucks and take out the blood when there’s a gunshot. That’s it. And suddenly everyone would have their kid friendly PG-13. But what exactly is that? The absurdity is people will accept this very short as entertainment for kids as long as you show guns are bloodless and people just kind of fall down when they get hit. This is a weird hypocricy of the ratings system, commercial necessity rather than a moral one. Even before PG-13 was invented a PG film like RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK would show that guns, when shot at someone, would blow blood off his head into the lens. So this film is a response to that and making a more honest depiction of this sort of violent entertainment. To get a PG-13 all I have to do is cut our the cursing, keep the killings but just sanitize them. And no tits.

Khan goes on to explain it’s not aimed at 12 year olds.

I can’t front that I’m a fan of Power Rangers. Most people when they do projects always say they’re fans but 90% are lying just to please the fans. I was already shaving in 1993 when Power Rangers came out. It was aimed at 12 year olds. I would have been weird as fuck if I was going into clubs raving about a reappropriated Sentai show for kids. I would have never gotten laid (which I didn’t anyway so what did it matter). It was an interesting experiment to play with reboot culture and tone control. When I finally made it I was fully invested in the characters and the property but I didn’t come into it to please a fan base, per se, but to experiment with pop culture.

It’s not necessarily made for Power Ranger fans NOW, especially kids. It was made for Power Rangers fans in the 90’s who grew up and out of it. I’m making a piece of nostolgia for adults in their late 20’s and 30’s, who haven’t thought about them in a minute. And I think that is the vast majority of people in the world. If you’re 30 and still into Power Rangers and dress up in the costumes and all that, then more power to you, but this is not for you.

Khan explains how Power/Rangers is a parody of the original.

Parody in that it is a conceptual straight faced hyperbole. Every scene is straightfaced and serious and believable. If you watched it and enjoyed every minute of it literally – you’re not stupid, you’re honest. That’s what I wanted. And when it ended and you laugh and go what the fuck did I just watch, you’re acknowledging you just legitimately enjoyed a fucking Might Morphin Power Rangers movie where they fucked porn stars, did coke, and blew people’s brains out a face value. THAT’S irony, THAT’s the comedy, THAT’s the parody.

Khan goes on to explain how Power/Rangers got to be and hints at the cost.

I was going to a sci fi short anyway with Russ Bain (Tommy, green ranger) and Adi Shankar convinced me to make it about Power Rangers. I self funded it and shot it over 7 days. It was taken down because it was awesome.

More than a Mercedes. Less than a condo in Los Angeles.

I paid for it myself. But a couple rich friends threw in a little money when they saw it just because they wanted to. Seriously. I didn’t need it. They were like this is cool, we were going to just bet it on golf. Go buy some more blood shots. Not kidding.

On Kate Sackhoff being a part of the film:

Katee only had one day to shoot her interrogation scene so I had to shoot all her shots first. Then I had to back through all the set-ups and shoot James, regardless of which way the camera was pointing. Holy shit, that was tough to keep track of in my head.

Khan also says there is no interest in making it a full-length feature film:

I strictly made it as a short film. No interest in making it a real movie. It’s designed to be 14 minutes, no more no less.

The good news is they haven’t officially cancelled Constantine, and showrunner Daniel Cerone says we won’t find out until May.

Now NBC has actually set up a voicemail for Constantine as anyone calling in and asking to speak to NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt regarding Constantine Season 2 will be forwarded to a voice mail.

You can then leave your thoughts about the show and suggestions.

Update: It appears the call-in campaign is not officially approved by NBC, so we took down the number and information.
