Taika Waitit Laughs His Star Wars Movie Will 'Piss People Off'

We just learned that Taika Waititi is done with Marvel, said to focus on his other projects, which includes Star Wars.

While at the Red Carpet premiere of his latest movie Next Goal Wins, Taika Waititi was asked about his Star Wars movie which he has been writing for the last three years.

“It will be … dramatic pause… a Taika Waititi film,” the director tells Variety.

Waititi adds and laughs, “It’s gonna piss people off.”

Also speaking with Entertainment Tonight, he said he doesn’t want to rush things.

“At the moment, I’m still developing something with them,” Waititi said. “Like me, they have a lot of projects going on. I think they’re gonna push it until I finish these other projects. I’ve got about four other scripts that I’m trying to finish. My thing is I want to take my time with that and get it right. I don’t want to rush this movie.”

While discussing how he is no longer with Marvel and won’t be doing Thor 5, he also told Business Insider his Star Wars movie is “still marinating” and that he’s “been writing it.”

Rumors have actually offered the Taika Waititi Star Wars movie has been canceled, but back in April, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy told Variety, “Taika is still working away. He’s writing the script himself. He doesn’t really want to bring others into that process and I don’t blame him. He has a very, very unique voice. So we want to protect that and that’s what he’s doing. But we’re going to make that one day.”

Details about what the movie is about are unknown but back in June of 2022 said, “I would like to take something new and create some new characters and just expand the world, otherwise it feels like it’s a very small story.”

Lucasfilm announced the movie back in 2020 on May The 4th along with The Acolyte:
