Peyton Reed Updates Ant-Man and the Wasp & Evangeline Lilly

Marvel recently released the new Paul Rudd Ant-Man clip for Captain America: Civil War, (watch below) and now while attending the Red Carpet World Premiere, director Peyton Reed offers an update on the Ant-Man and the Wasp movie, particularly in regards to Evangeline Lilly.

“Evangeline is an amazing actress. The first movie was really about her coming into her own as a hero, even though we didn’t see her suit up yet. So we’re so excited about now being able to show her fully formed and what she is as a superhero. Her power set, how she fights, and what are the injustices that matter to her that she wants to right. That’s part of the really fun thing of the next movie.”

“It just didn’t make sense for Wasp [to be in Civil War] because there’s so many characters in this movie, and you really want to see her become a hero and really spend time with her. She’s a complicated character and a rich character. We’re really, really having fun writing that.”

“The challenge in Ant-Man and the Wasp is just topping everything that comes before. But that’s a challenge I think with every Marvel movie, with every hero movie. You don’t want the audience to get bored and feel like, oh man, I saw that in the last movie. You always got to give them something different.”

“We’re just getting started. We’re working on it for a little while. Coming up with some ideas … It’s creatively fulfilling, and challenging, and daunting, and exciting, more than anything.”

Peyton Reed & James Gunn Make Fun Of R-Rated Super Hero Movies

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24476:]]

Deadpool seems to have opened the proverbial pandora’s box as now, apparently, a slew of R-rated super hero films is to follow.

The next Wolverine and possibly X-Force are all said to be R-Rated, and recently saw news hit about an R-Rated Batman Vs. Superman director’s cut.

So will Marvel Studios follow?

While that seems highly unlikely, Ant-Man director Peyton Reed and Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn have fun with the notion.

Petyon Reed took to Twitter to state the Ant-Man and the Wasp sequel will be NC-17, which was followed up with a tweet from Gunn stating Inhumans will be a snuff film.

On a side note, initially The Avengers movie was given an R-rating due to Coulson’s death scene. The scene originally was more graphic which showed Loki impaling Coulson from behind with the blade coming out of Coulson’s chest. The final version only saw the aftermath with the blade sticking out.

Ant-Man Spoiler Is Going To Be A Big Part Of Upcoming Movie

Warning: Spoilers for Ant-Man follow.

The Ant-Man mid-credit scene showed Hank Pym giving Hope the Wasp costume.

Yahoo caught up with Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige and asked about the future of Wasp.

“It’s going to be certainly a part of our Phase 3,” Feige said. “It is going to be a very important moment, and — spoiler alert! — we see that suit for the first time, and her father now is finally giving it to her and realizes that he can’t hold her back from what is essentially her destiny. It’s going to be a very big part of one of our upcoming films.”

The video also sees Ant-Man director Peyton Reed talking about the Falcon scene.

“The kid in me loved it, because that’s what I loved in the Marvel comics,” Reed offeres. “It’s like, okay, this character has these powers, and this one has this, and what happens if they go up against each other? Scott is clearly not prepared for what he’s about to come up against, but he really, at the last minute, makes some very smart tactical decisions,” Reed said of the battle. “And that was really fun — sort of, who’s going to get what licks in this fight?”

Ant-Man” is now in theaters starring Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne and Corey Stoll as Darren Cross/Yellowjacket.

Synopsis:

The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man.” Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Lobo Movie On The Back Burner But Still May Happen

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20603:]]

Obviously with Dwayne Johnson getting cast as Black Adam in the upcoming Shazam movie, the Lobo movie was placed on the back burner.

Lobo wasn’t a part of the recently announced slate of DC movies; however, that doesn’t necessarily mean Lobo may never happen.

Director Brad Peyton gave Coming Soon an update about Lobo offering that similar to Marvel (which makes sense), WB is going to focus on the core Justice League characters before branching out.

“I was really happy with the script, [though]. I talked with Dwayne about it. Joel Silver and I had a really amazing meeting about it. I did a rewrite of the script and was really, really excited for it. In their estimation, though, [Lobo] wasn’t one of those main guys… That’s fair enough. I think that, to do any kind of comic book universe correctly, you do need to establish, ‘Here’s the tone. Here’s the main people.’ Then we can grow offshoots from there. With Marvel, they’re now doing smaller characters like ‘Ant-Man’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. They obviously had to start, though, with their big guns and set up ‘The Avengers’. I kind of feel like that’s where DC is now. They’re setting that team up.”

While Lobo may not be considered a “main guy,” it’s possible the Main Man could always show up in another DC movie – possibly Green Lantern or even Superman, as Lobo in the comics is an intergalactic bounty hunter. We see Brad Peyton is pretty optimistic about the chances for Lobo as well.

“I think there’s going to be a really amazing time for ‘Lobo’ and I think people are going to realize, certainly once they revisit it, what they’re sitting on. But you never know. I’m really happy with the project and where we got it and fingers crossed it comes to fruition at some point.”

There has also been rumor of a DC Legion of Super Heroes movie, so the potential for DC Cosmic other than Green Lantern exists.

Brad Peyton reteams with Dwayne Johnson in San Andreas, which is out May 29th; maybe they will be paired up for Shazam in 2019.
