Jon Bernthal Punisher Rumored To Be Replacing Iron Fist On Netflix

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22664:]]

With rumors of a Marvel internal civil war between the movies and TV/comics division, which states Marvel Studios may put the kabash on the use of Iron Fist in Netflix and the Defenders, comes new rumors suggesting The Punisher may be used as a replacement.

Word comes from Peel The Orange (via movie pilot):

Marvel can’t quite seem to figure out how to put Iron Fist into the equation and time is running out. They’re very pleased with how Jon Bernthal’s portrayal of Frank Castle for Season 2 of Daredevil and know that the fans have a great appreciation for the character. They also know that a Punisher series would be much cheaper and more marketable. They have a contract with Netflix and have to do something. It appears that for this phase of shows, time is running thin for Iron Fist.

It’s also suggested Marvel may be having a hard time finding a lead for Iron Fist, and we can even further speculate if the rumors of Marvel Studios axing Iron Fist on TV are true that Iron Fist may be appearing in the Marvel movies (possibly on the supernatural side of things with Doctor Strange, etc).

Jonathan Nolan Comments On Batman Begins Teaser

With Batman Begins now on Netflix, the movie has been receiving some new attention.

The latest is regarding the above Batman Begins teaser trailer that WB used to convince audiences of their different approach to the Dark Knight, which was no longer campy, but darker, grittier and more serious in nature.

The trailer is currently topping Reddit, with Jonathan Nolan, brother to Christopher Nolan and writer on The Dark Knight Trilogy, offering an inside look.

A fan commented:

Damn the movie was already awesome but I wouldn’t have minded having that little speech in the movie. That being said, it was the perfect teaser. Built interest without giving away too much.

With Jonathan Nolan responding:

thanks dude. I wrote this in a couple hours in my brother’s trailer while he was shooting the scene in which Bruce is arrested for stealing Wayne corp supplies on his ‘journey.’ Remains some of my favorite writing from these films. Was written specifically for the trailer. Wouldn’t have worked in the film.

Another fan commented:

Thanks Jonathan. We have genuine respect for the craft you and your brother have brought to cinema over the last decade, and more. All the best for the future; you guys are writing the future of cinema.

With Jonathan responding:

Thank you! Appreciate it. Hopefully my future also includes a nap. edit — I really need that nap.

Jonathan Nolan is currently involved with HBO’s Westworld series and is currently directing, producing and writing episodes.

Sons Of Anarchy’s Theo Rossi Cast For Luke Cage

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21945:]]

It’s learned Theo Rossi, known for playing Juice in Son’s Of Anarchy, has joined the Marvel Netflix series Luke Cage.

Deadline reports Rossi will be a series regular opposite Mike Colter as Luke Cage with the role said to be relentless and menacing, smooth and manipulative, street smart and controlling. It’s said Rossi will be playing Luke Cage’s enemy Shades aka Alvarez, a well known criminal.

It’s further reported Rosario Dawson will reprise her Claire Temple role in Luke Cage as well. As noted, Temple is a love interest to Cage in the comics, and Dawson is slated to appear in Jessica Jones prior to Luke Cage.

It was reported a while back that Alfre Woodward will be playing the Marvel Comics villain Black Mariah.

Update: It’s also reported Simone Missick has been cast as Misty Knight described as a woman having a strong sense of justice. In the comics, Mistky Knight is a former NYPD officer who gets a new bionic arm by Tony Stark after losing hers in the line of duty. She eventually launches a detective agency, helping Cage.

In the comics, Black Mariah is a villain to both Iron Fist and Luke Cage and a leader of a gang and drug dealer.

Purple Man Teased For Jessica Jones Netflix Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21770:]]

Fans of the Marvel Comics know that David Tennant is playing Kilgrave in the Jessica Jones Netflix series, who in comics lore is also known as the Purple Man.

The Purple Man’s powers include using chemical pheromones to control and manipulate other people.

It’s unclear how close the Jessica Jones Netflix series will stick to the comic books, but the official Netflix page has been updated with a purple background (as well as the new Comic-Con logo), which may hint at the use of pheromones due to the cloudy nature of the image.

Likewise, previous set pics featuring Tennant revealed the actor in a purple suit as Kilgrave.

“Jessica Jones” premiers later this year starring Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), David Tennant (Kilgrave), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Rachael Taylor (Patricia “Trish” Walker), and Carrie-Anne Moss.

Daredevil Costume Concept Art For Netflix

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20634:]]

Check out a piece of Daredevil concept art revealed for the Marvel Netflix series.

Artist Ryan Meinerding is responsible for the following rendition of Charlie Cox’s look in the show.

“Joe Quesada got in touch and asked if I could help out,” Meinerding told Marvel.com. “Our whole team actually did designs, [including] Rodney Fuentebella, Andy Park, Jackson Sze, Josh Nizzi, and Anthony Francisco. I think we all did a round of designs as fast as we could, and they settled on one of mine. Beyond that, we did our normal process of modeling the head and the cowl [in] 3D with Josh Herman, and then I was involved throughout the costume creation process.”

Meinerding went on to explain creating the look isn’t that easy of a task.

“One of the most interesting things about Daredevil, that I hadn’t fully appreciated before I started working on the character, is that I think that head is one of the most difficult heads to design for a live action context,” Meinerding offered. “Because if you have a mask like Captain America’s, it’s difficult in it’s own ways, but you still have the actor’s eyes coming through. So you get performance, you get a sense of who they are, of their expression, of what they’re doing. [As a result] the bottom half of the face matches the top half, in terms of expression. With Daredevil, because half of his face has to be covered and has its own expression and the actor’s face is going to be doing something else, it’s actually a very difficult challenge to come up with something up top that’s not going to bump with something down below.”

“Daredevil” is currently on Netflix with all 13 episodes; Season 2 is being developed and will be released next year.

The Night Nurse returns for season two of the Daredevil Netflix series as Rosario Dawson will be back as Claire Temple.

Marvel.com announced the news where it’s mentioned Daredevil Season 2 will air in 2016, and that Dawson’s deal will allow her to appear in the other Marvel Netflix series.

Info:

Marvel and Netflix are proud to announce Rosario Dawson will reprise her role as Claire Temple in the second season of  the Netflix Original Series “Marvel’s Daredevil,” coming in 2016, as part of a larger exclusive TV deal that will also allow her to appear in any of Marvel’s other Netflix original series.

Romantically entangled with Matt Murdock in the series’ first season, Claire helped the hero after more than a few of his brutal battles in the streets of Hell’s Kitchen.

Celebrated for her work in  “Top Five,” “Cesar Chavez,” “Sin City,” “Kids,” and much more, fans can currently see her as Claire Temple, a character with ties to many of the Defenders heroes in the comics, in Season 1 of “Marvel’s Daredevil,” only on Netflix.

“After working with Rosario in the first season, we knew instantly that we had to have her back for our second,” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb. “Claire Temple proved a fan favorite in Season 1, and we can’t wait for fans to see all the plans we have for her next.”

“Marvel’s Daredevil” is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.

“Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones” comes only to Netflix later this year and “Marvel’s Luke Cage” premieres on the streaming service in 2016. Ryan Phillippe In Talks With Marvel For Netflix Series; Possibly Iron Fist

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20301:]]

It’s learned Ryan Phillippe is in talks with Marvel for something Netflix related.

The 40-year-old actor recently appeared on Howard Stern where he offered: “Marvel is interested in talking about a Netflix series, possibly. The Daredevil series is great.”

The actor then followed-up on Twitter with: “I have no real Marvel news other than an upcoming meeting. Sorry to disappoint fans thought there was more to it. There is no story there [smiles].”

Speculation immediately led to Phillppe possibly playing Iron Fist, as the actor has yet to be cast. Interestingly enough, Ryan Phillippe does hold a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, so at least he might be familiar and capable of doing some martial arts moves (IMDb already lists that actor as playing Iron Fist as well).

In the comics, Iron Fist is Daniel Rand, the heir to Rand Corporation, and in the Daredevil series, was the company truck that spilled the chemicals on the young Matt Murdock.

Captain America 2, Thor 2 & Guardians of the Galaxy Now On Netflix

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20240:]]

Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Thor: The Dark World and Guardians of the Galaxy are now available to stream on Netflix.

However, the catch is the movies are streaming in certain foreign countries.

Users are reporting on Reddit that using the Chrome “Hola Better Net” extension, the movies are accessible anywhere.

How it works is, Netflix knows the location of where you are viewing the movies based on your cpu/internet provider settings, and only certain movies are available in select countries.

The Hola extension enables users to mask and change their location via a VPN. So for example, if you are in the U.S., you can use Hola to change your location to the Netherlands and view the movies.

Apparently, Netflix has been under pressure from the movie studios as they have caught on to the trick, and Netflix may be banning users who use VPNs to access the service.

It’s unclear where this falls under copyright laws as technically you are not downloading the movie, and it is “available” to stream.

So here is your fair warning: If you decide to go the Hola route, do so at your own risk.

Reportedly, the Marvel movies will be readily available on Netflix later this year.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19519:]]

In an update to our story Cosmic Book News first reported on a month ago, the DC animated and select Cartoon Network series are no longer available on Netflix.

A search of Netflix no longer yields results for any DC shows (or movies) related to: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern or Justice League.

Select Cartoon Network series are still available including: Ben 10, Billy and Mandy, Chowder, Dexter’s Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, Samurai Jack, Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends, Ed, Ed N Eddy, Cow and Chicken, and Power Puff Girls.

Some of the available Cartoon Network series now list April 6th as their expiration date.

The expired DC animated series include:  Justice League Unlimited, Justice League (2001), Young Justice, Batman Beyond, Green Lantern: The Animated Series, and Batman: The Brave and The Bold.

Daredevil Showrunner Wants R-Rated Punisher

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19866:]]

With hopefully the upcoming Marvel Netflix Daredevil series being such a success, perhaps following Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist we could see the Punisher.

Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight recently spoke with SciFiNow and stated he would love to get an R-Rated Punisher series made.

“I’d love to see him get his due on a platform like this,” DeKnight said. “Nothing would delight me more than to see the Punisher get his own show and maybe we could convince Marvel to go Hard-R rating. If any character deserves an R rating, it’s the Punisher.”

Though Daredevil won’t be R-rated, it will still be pretty dark and gritty, and Charlie Cox even said the Man Without Fear is pretty close to the character of the Punisher.

“Steven DeKnight said that Daredevil is one bad day away from being the Punisher,” added Cox. “I thought that was really helpful. Again, it adds to the dark tone, and I think it’s more interesting to watch.”

Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson previously played Frank Castle, maybe Steven DeKnight already has plans for a new “Frank” to cameo in Daredevil?

“Daredevil” premiers with all 13 episodes on April 10th.
