Daredevil Season 3, Punisher & Jessica Jones Season 2 Arriving In 2018

For fans of the Marvel Netflix shows, Daredevil and Jessica Jones, you are going to have to wait a bit for new episodes as it’s learned Daredevil Season 3 and Jessica Jones Season 2 will be arriving in 2018 along with the Jon Bernthal Punisher series.

Update: Netflix has updated their queue stating Punisher in 2017.

The good news is that while you wait, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Defenders will be filling the gap.

At the TCA press tour, Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos revealed the Marvel Netflix series wouldn’t arrive on Netflix until at least 2018.

Sarandos also confirmed Luke Cage premiers September 30th, and that both Iron Fist and Defenders debut on Netflix in 2017.

The new keeps with Netflix’s schedule of airing two Marvel series per year, which may mean Punisher may not hit until 2019 or that Netflix may break from doing two Marvel series and go with three.

It’s also reported that Jon Bernthal’s Punisher may turn up in Defenders. Bernthal also appeared at Comic-Con during the recent Marvel TV Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Defenders panel.

“We’re incredibly excited to be able to bring our four street level heroes together in an epic tale woven by Doug and Marco whose work on ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ speaks for itself,” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “They write and produce not only great action and adventure, but also the heart and touch of humor that’s makes us Marvel. Marvel’s Netflix Defenders Films This Year

While it was just learned Daredevil won’t be appearing in any Marvel movies, who needs them when you have the Defenders?

The Defenders is Marvel TV’s version of The Avengers featuring Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones.

Now it’s learned Marvel will start filming the Defenders later this year.

Charlie Cox offered the news at a Netflix presentation in Paris.

“What we do know is at the end of this year we’re going to be making The Defenders and, of course, Daredevil is very much a part of that foursome,” Cox said, reports the UK’s Independent. “I have no idea what the storyline is going to be for that show. I’m very excited to see how those world’s combine… and interested to see tonally how those shows become one.”

Cox also offered Daredevil Season 3 is presently up in the air: “We don’t know if there’s going to be a season three. I certainly don’t know. In terms of wrapping up any storylines, maybe they’ll do some of that in The Defenders. Or maybe they won’t.”

In addition to Charlie Cox as Daredevil, The Defenders will feature Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage and newly announced Finn Jones as Iron Fist.

False Alarm: No Captain America: Civil War & Luke Cage Crossover

Yesterday saw the news hit that Alfre Woodward will be appearing in both Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War and the Netflix Luke Cage series leading to speculation of a possible crossover.

Now, however, it’s learned that doesn’t look to be the case.

Non-spoiler info: Alfre Woodward has a small role in Captain America: Civil War unrelated to her Luke Cage character.

Captain America: Civil War spoiler info below the pic.

Spoilers (via Screen Crush):

Woodard has a small, but pivotal role in the beginning of the film. She’ll be playing the mother of an American citizen who was killed during the Battle of Sokovia in Age of Ultron. Her character has a confrontation with Tony Stark where she lays both guilt and blame at him for the death of her son. It’s this encounter that convinces Tony to back the Sokovia Accords that would regulate The Avengers and other “enhanced individuals.”

It’s noted Alfre Woodward was cast in Civil War (by Marvel Studios), which wrapped last August, prior to her getting cast in Luke Cage (by Marvel TV) in September.

It’s further suggested: “It’s beginning to look like we’ll never see Daredevil and Luke Cage play alongside Captain America and Iron Man.”

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Synopsis:

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

New Captain America: Civil War Cast Member Hints At Luke Cage Netflix Crossover

Fans have been wanting the Marvel Cinematic Universe to crossover with Marvel TV (or at the very least reference), which has yet to happen.

Now it’s possible that Captain America: Civil War may be the first as Disney revealed two additional Civil War cast members with Jim Rash and Alfre Woodward.

Regarding the latter, Alfre Woodward has been named to be playing Mariah Dillard on the upcoming Marvel Netflix Luke Cage series that premiers this September; her Civil War role is unknown.

Woodward’s Luke Cage character is described as: “a local Harlem politician–and cousin to recently announced Cornell ‘Cottonmouth’ Stokes (Mahershala Ali)–who is looking to bring a new era of change to the streets she grew up on. Her personal life and professional career are thrown into turmoil by both Harlem’s newest hero Luke Cage as well as her cousin Cottonmouth’s nefarious acts.”

What might be interesting is that if Woodward is actually playing a totally different character in Captain America: Civil War, that this would be evidence that the MCU take place in a separate universe than Marvel TV.

It’s unknown who Jim Rash is playing, though he was a part of the Russo brothers Community series.

Luke Cage debuts September 30th on Netflix.

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Mike Colter Offers Details About The Luke Cage Series (Video)

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23274:]]

Check out video below of Mike Colter on the Red Carpet of the premeire for Jessica Jones talking about Luke Cage.

The Power Man offers that his Luke Cage series will be different than both Daredevil and Jessica Jones.

“It’s nice to walk into something having a little head start and get a chance to warm up,” Colter said. “You know, stretch it out a bit. Because Jessica Jones is so unique as a series, I’m so happy to be a part of it because Luke Cage is completely different – as Daredevil was completely different – and it’s nice to be a part of something that is unique.”

Colter also offers the following about the start of the Luke Cage series:

Luke Cage is going to basically find Luke right after Jessica Jones, uptown. He’s licking his wounds, I would say. You are going to know exactly what I mean when I say that, and he’s trying to figure out what’s his next step. It’s hard because he doesn’t know where to go from here. He’s lost a lot, and he’s basically in a state of turmoil.”

Check out more from Colter in the video below.

Jessica Jones can be watched on Netflix, with Luke Cage currently filming and due out in 2016.
