Writer On Aquaman Offers Update On Setting & More

Will Beall, who also wrote an unused script for Justice League, is writing the Aquaman movie.

SlashFilm caught up with the writer at the recent Television Critics Association where Will Beall offered details on Aquaman‘s setting.

“I can tell you that not all of the action takes place underwater,” Beall said. “Some of the most fun action in the movie actually takes place on dry land.”

Will Beall also said the Aquaman movie script isn’t finished.

“Nope, I am still working on it with James [Wan] and Geoff [Johns],” Beall said.

Following Batman vs. Superman, Jason Momoa will be featured in the Justice League film. Beall says what happens in that movie isn’t affecting his Aquaman script.

“No, no, they know what’s happening,” Beall said. “Everybody knows what’s happening so it’s not that. It’s working out what’s going to make the best movie.”

The article also notes Will Beall wouldn’t confirm the rumor that Black Manta is the villain of Aquaman.

“Aquaman” has a July 27, 2018 release.

Watch: Lights Out Trailer #2

Watch the second trailer below for the horror movie Lights Out.

Lights Out has a July 22, 2016 release date directed by David Sandberg with Aquaman‘s James Wan producing.

Synopsis:

From producer James Wan (“The Conjuring”) comes a tale of an unknown terror that lurks in the dark.

When Rebecca left home, she thought she left her childhood fears behind. Growing up, she was never really sure of what was and wasn’t real when the lights went out…and now her little brother, Martin, is experiencing the same unexplained and terrifying events that had once tested her sanity and threatened her safety. A frightening entity with a mysterious attachment to their mother, Sophie, has reemerged.

But this time, as Rebecca gets closer to unlocking the truth, there is no denying that all their lives are in danger…once the lights go out.

The film stars Teresa Palmer (“Triple 9”) as Rebecca; Gabriel Bateman (“Annabelle”) as Martin; Billy Burke (the “Twilight” franchise) as Martin’s father, Paul; Alexander DiPersia (“Forever”) as Rebecca’s boyfriend, Bret; and Maria Bello (“Prisoners”) as Sophie.

“Lights Out” marks the feature film directorial debut of David F. Sandberg, who directed the film from a screenplay by Eric Heisserer (“Final Destination 5”), based on Sandberg’s own short film. James Wan, Lawrence Grey and Heisserer produced the film, with Walter Hamada, Dave Neustadter and Richard Brener serving as executive producers.

Sandberg’s behind-the-scenes team included director of photography Marc Spicer (“Furious 7”), production designer Jennifer Spence (the “Insidious” films), editor Kirk Morri (“The Conjuring”) and costume designer Kristin M. Burke (“The Conjuring”). The music is composed by Benjamin Wallfisch.

New Line Cinema presents a Grey Matter/Atomic Monster production, “Lights Out.” Slated for release on July 22, 2016, the film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

This film has been rated PG-13 for terror throughout, violence including disturbing images, some thematic material and brief drug content.

James Wan Teases Patrick Wilson For Aquaman

In a podcast interview with Empire Online, James Wan once again teases Patrick Wilson for Aquaman.

Patrick Wilson stars in Wan’s Conjuring movies, and Patrick Wilson was also featured as the voice of the President of the United States in Batman Vs. Superman.

James Wan once teased Patrick Wilson for Aquaman a few months ago, and now does so again.

Assuming he has a larger role, how about Patrick Wilson for Ocean Master?

Actually, Patrick Wilson was at one time attached to Marvel’s Ant-Man; Wilson might not be a bad choice for the DCEU equivalent of The Atom.

Aquaman has a 2018 release date starring Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Amber Heard as Mera.

The Flash & Aquaman Said To Lose Directors Over Batman Vs. Superman Reaction

It’s being said that The Flash movie has lost its director, and Aquaman may have lost its director.

Regarding The Flash movie, THR is reporting Seth Grahame-Smith (whom WB never actually officially announced) has left The Flash over “creative differences” which is set to star Ezra Miller as Barry Allen.

Now Birth.Movies.Death, who was the source of the Suicide Squad reshoot info, is stating James Wan is having second thoughts about the Aquaman film.

The reason?

Batman Vs. Superman.

BMD says:

Both Zack Snyder and Geoff Johns were “taken aback” by critical and audience reaction to Batman vs Superman.

WB execs are now said to be at odds with Snyder over his vision of the Justice League movie and the DCEU moving forward.

WB was hesitant to take any action regarding Snyder on Justice League because they felt it would hurt Batman Vs. Superman‘s box office, as Justice League films so close to the BVS release date.

It’s said there are “lot of fights” between Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. executives as well as “lots of pressure” from WB on Snyder.

Regarding Aquaman, it’s said James Wan is in “tremendous amount of trepidation” about doing Aquaman, and that he really doesn’t need it as he has Conjuring 2 and Lights Out coming out soon.

It’s further said Wan is trying to decide if he needs the “hassle,” and that Aquaman may be delayed.

The report suggests Wan has the “upper hand” regarding Aquaman and may be able to get it made the way he wants.

Snyder’s Justice League is said to basically remain as Snyder envisioned it (too late in the process for changes).

Suicide Squad looks to be a hit, as well as (obviously) the Ben Affleck Batman movie.

James Wan Talks Aquaman & Justice League

While at CinemaCon promoting The Conjuring 2, MTV caught up with director James Wan for an update on his Aquaman movie, where Wan also mentions Justice League.

A big part of it was me telling them what potential I saw in this character. As we all know, Aquaman is somewhat the butt of the joke in the superhero world. There’s something cool about that. I love the idea of being the underdog, coming in with a take on this underdog character and completely blow people’s expectations away. Like, ’Oh, you thought he was going to be a wimpy character? No no no.’ It’s going to be so cool.

There’s Justice League that happens before it, so I have to be respectful to that But in a lot of ways… it’s a continuation but there are origin elements as well — and that’s the story that I’m excited to tell.

Jasom Momoa first appeared in Batman Vs. Superman in a cameo role; Justice League is currently filming for its November 17, 2017 release, and the Aquaman movie is scheduled for a July 27, 2018 release also starring Amber Heard as Mera.

Surprise Actor & Character Teased For Aquaman Movie

It’s learned a surprised actor may make his way into the Aquaman movie.

Batman Vs. Superman included a scene with the President of the United States, who happened to be voiced by Patrick Wilson known for The Conjuring movies.

As James Wan directed The Conjuring and is on Aquaman, we may see Patrick Wilson show up as the chief executive.

Coming Soon caught up with James Wan at the recent WonderCon and asked about the possibility of Patrick Wilson appearing in Aquaman, with Wan teasing, “You just might!”

Patrick Wilson and James Wan return for The Conjuring 2 out June 10th.

Aquaman has a July 28, 2017 release date starring Jason Momo and Amber Heard as Mera.

James Wan Talks Aquaman, Sea Monsters, Zack Snyder & Fun

The director of the upcoming Aquaman movie, James Wan, is known more for doing horror movies as Wan has directed and produced Saw, The Conjuring, and Insidious. Even though Aquaman is a super hero, it seems as if Wan’s horror expertise will be helping him out on the film as he tells Slash Film he is looking forward to the sea monsters:

“I think, like most people, we are familiar with Aquaman,” Wan said. “We grew up reading or watching this character on the peripheral. I was never so in depth with Aquaman as, let’s say, I was with X-Men. I grew up loving X-Men, Spider-Man and Batman. Those are obviously the key big ones, but there’s always something kind of cool about Aquaman still, the idea of creating a huge world that is on our planet. That’s the thing about Aquaman that’s cool is he’s not an alien, right? He’s from our planet and he’s from a society that we’re not privy to in the context of the story. Isn’t it crazy to think that we’ve explored space more than we have explored the depths of our ocean? That just fires up my imagination about potential sea monsters and cool creatures, that kind of stuff.”

Batman Vs. Superman and Justice League‘s Zack Snyder is on board Aquaman as executive producer, with Wan letting it be known Snyder is laying the ground work in those films for his Aquaman movie (you can watch the Jason Momoa spoiler Batman Vs. Superman cameo here). Via Cinemablend:

Well, I think the story that I would like to tell is still at the end of the day my story. And that’s what’s cool with Zack, is that he’s actually very respectful of that. He’s actually helping me out in some ways with certain things that he’s doing with his [films] so that I can have better groundwork with the standalone Aquaman story.

While the DCCU, at least to date, seems to be a lot more serious than the Marvel movies, Wan does note he still wants his Aquaman to come off as being fun. Via IGN:

The kind of filmmaker that I am…even my darker horror films generally are still very fun and I think that’s important for me and the kind of films I make. Aquaman is a character that a lot of people have made fun of over the years and I just think it’s fun to actually show a really different, cool, badass side to this character, but at the same time, let’s not forget to have fun with it.

Aquaman has a July 27, 2018 release starring Jason Momoa and Amber Heard as Mera.

Fast & Furious 7’s James Wan Wanted For Aquaman

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19995:]]

It’s reported James Wan is WB’s top choice to direct the Aquaman movie starring Jason Momoa.

THR reports that hot off the heels of the of Fast & Furious 7‘s $500 million debut, Warner Bros. is in preliminary talks with Wan.

It’s said there is no offer on the table, but the hope is in choosing Wan that the director would bring both critical and financial success to Aquaman.

It’s unknown if Wan would be able to find time to direct Aquaman as Wan may potentially direct the Fast & Furious 7 sequel and has The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist in the pipeline as well.

WB wants someone like James Wan to bring a more serious approach to Aquaman, whom has been the butt of jokes amongst fans for decades. We see that WB is pretty serious about the character by choosing Momoa as well.

Jason Momoa will first appear in Batman Vs . Superman before Aquaman and will be a part of the two Justice League movies.

Aquaman is due in 2018 with two separate scripts being written by Will Beall and Kurt Johnstad, respectively.
