Justin Kucsulain Teases The Sentry

It’s been rumored a movie based on The Sentry might be in the works, and now an actor is seemingly teasing the role.

Justin Kucsulain, who actually had a unnamed role in Iron Man 3 (played a guard), took to his Instagram account to post images of The Sentry Marvel comic books and an action figure.

“Gathered some amazing reading material today,” Kucsulain posted a week ago, adding a “wink” to the post.

Of course it’s possible Justin Kucsulain may just be having some fun with the fans and reading up on the character, but you have to admit the actor does resemble Robert Reynolds, aka The Sentry. Kucsulain also played Ethan on The Walking Dead.

The Sentry is basically Marvel’s equivalent to Superman, but with a dark twist. I actually wouldn’t mind seeing the Dark Avengers on the big screen.

Other Marvel Phase 4 rumors included Nova.

Iron Man Captain America: Civil War Concept Art Mentions Bleeding Edge

Check out a batch of Iron Man Mark 46 concept art for Captain America: Civil War.

Some people have been wondering if this is the MCU version of the Bleeding Edge armor. Check out what the concept artist has to say, which sounds like more or less the Bleeding Edge armor from the comics is an inspiration for the Civil War suit.

Spider-Man concept art and Black Panther concept art is also available.

The pics come from the Captain America: Civil War Art of the Movie book which is now available and can be picked up through Amazon.

“With  lot of Iron Man suits, we’ve always tried to be inspired by suits that have appeared in the comics before, whether aesthetically or conceptually,” concept artist Phil Saunders says. “One of the ones people had been eager for us to tackle was the comics’s Bleeding Edge armor — even if this suit doesn’t have the functionality of the Bleeding Edge armor. In Iron Man 3, we designed the Mark 42 with a level of detail complexity because of the panel-attachment function — various plates flying into him — which required a very fine line breakup. We were assuming that was the way he was going to continue to suit up. For both aesthetic and functional reasons, we felt it was necessary to continue that level of complexity in the Mark 45 armor, the last suit seen in Avengers: Age Of Ultron. That suit was very organic with anatomical musculature. For this suit, the Mark 46, I wanted to take it back a little more toward a mechanical design while still keeping that level of musculature to it. You’ll see in this design a lot of the lines flow more directly, and it has a much simpler color breakup.”

Marvel Studios Clueless When It Came To Iron Man 3 The Mandarin Reception

Iron Man 3 director Shane Black let loose in a new interview about the movie.

Not only did Shane Black discuss how Iron Man 3 originally had a female villain and why the character was axed, but Black also discussed the negative reception to the film and especially Ben Kingsley’s Mandarin — revealing Marvel Studios had no clue their version of the character would be received by the fans so poorly.

Via Uproxx:

I wish that the fans liked it more.

I’m a people pleaser. Marvel saw so many negative things they made a whole other movie just to apologize called Hail to the King. In which they said, “No, no, the Mandarin is still alive. That wasn’t him. There’s a real Mandarin.” The only reason they made that was an apology to fans who were so angry.

Of course, they didn’t care. But when the blowback hit, they cared.

No, we didn’t. We didn’t know. We all thought they’d eat it up because it never occurred to us the Mandarin is as iconic to people as, say, the Joker in Batman.

They just wanted to see the magic rings shoot lasers.

You’d need to take the piss out of it and explain how this can happen. In the comic books, it’s literally magic. It’s magic from outer space. I love the fans. I really want to please them.

Interestingly enough, Marvel is receiving similar criticism for the Ancient One in Doctor Strange as they changed the character’s origin and sex to Celtic and female. Note: The reason the Ancient One and Mandarin were changed in the movies is thought to be due to appeasing the Chinese, which has become a big cash cow for international box off receipts.

Up next for Shane Black is the new 2018 Predator movie.

Ike Perlmutter Axed Iron Man 3 Female Villain

Marvel Studios has been taking flak as of late for the lack of female centric movies as well as related merchandise.

Well, that looks to be changing as it’s known Marvel CEO Ike Permutter was the one putting the kibosh on female-related projects at Marvel Studios.

The good news is that Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige recently parted ways with Perlmutter and his Marvel TV/comics creative committee.

Leaked Sony e-mails revealed Perlmutter put a stop to female Marvel movies citing Elektra, Catwoman and Supergirl as being disasters.

There was also little to no merchandise for Black Widow from Avengers 2 (or Scarlet Witch).

Now it’s become known an early draft for Iron Man 3 actually featured a female villain, buy that, too, was put a stop to by Perlmutter.

Iron Man 3 director Shane Black talked with Uproxx about working on the movie where he let it be known Killian was originally female, but apparently Perlmutter (who is in charge of Marvel merchandise, TV and comics) axed the idea:

All I’ll say is this, on the record: There was an early draft of Iron Man 3 where we had an inkling of a problem. Which is that we had a female character who was the villain in the draft. We had finished the script and we were given a no-holds-barred memo saying that cannot stand and we’ve changed our minds because, after consulting, we’ve decided that toy won’t sell as well if it’s a female.

So, we had to change the entire script because of toy making. Now, that’s not Feige. That’s Marvel corporate, but now you don’t have that problem anymore.

Yeah, Ike’s gone. But New York called and said, “That’s money out of our bank.” In the earlier draft, the woman was essentially Killian – and they didn’t want a female Killian, they wanted a male Killian. I liked the idea, like Remington Steele, you think it’s the man but at the end, the woman has been running the whole show. They just said, “no way.”

I remember Remington Steele probably better than it is. But just so you know, too, I’m a Kevin Feige fan. If you ever say anything about decisions made at Marvel, I hope you’ll qualify it by saying that Kevin Feige is the guy who gets it right. And I don’t know if it was Ike, I don’t know who it was. They never told me who made the decision, we just got that memo one day and it was about toy sales. That’s all I know.

Black also confirms two other female roles were cut short in Iron Man 3:

We had troubles. Memories are short. You can go through hell together, then six months later go, “That was kind of fun, wasn’t it, John?” The good news is, Downey and I seem to get on pretty well. We’ll bicker now and again, but to me just having him on board elevates the material. So, the toughness was in the logistics instead of the relationships. That’s the good news. We replaced a lot of things. The plot went this way and that way. Stéphanie Szostak’s character was bigger at one point and we reduced it. Rebecca Hall’s character was bigger at one point and we reduced it.

Marvel Studios has the female driven Captain Marvel movie set for a 2018 release.

MCU Rumors Include: Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers Infinity War & More

A batch of rumors regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have hit the net, which includes Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, Thor: RagnaorkDoctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Black Panther and more.

I took a quick glace, and some of them are news already known or speculated about, but it’s still fun to check out.

I think these come from 4chan (via reddit):

Mads Mikkelsen is playing Dr. Anthony Druid in DOCTOR STRANGE. He’s the main villain. Amy Landecker and Scott Adkins are playing his followers. Michael Stuhlbarg is playing a LHC scientist who assists Doctor Druid. Dormammu is referenced.

Kurt Russell is playing Stakar in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2. He’s Star-Lord’s father and the main villain. Secondary villains include Tullk and Taserface. Ego, the Living Planet, will appear, and they’re scouting high-profile actors to voice him.

Sylvester Stallone, Sharon Stone and Christopher Lloyd have minor roles in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2.

The main villains of SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING are Norman Osborn and the Vulture, with appearances by Spencer Smythe and Miles Warren.

Michael Keaton was approached to play Osborn, but declined because he didn’t want to commit to a multi-picture contract. Other actors are now being approached, including Jason Clarke and Dougray Scott.

Mark Rylance has been approached about playing the Vulture and Gary Oldman is in negotiations to play Smythe. Andrew McCarthy is in early talks to play Warren.

Peter won’t have a prominent love interest in the first movie, although he will have a crush on Liz Allan, who is being played by Laura Harrier. Flash Thompson will also appear, with Blake Jenner in talks to play him. Daniel Zovatto and Charlie Rowe are in talks to play Harry Osborn.

THOR: RAGNAROK will feature Cate Blanchett as Hela and Surtur will be unleashed in the third actor. Josh Brolin will have an appearance as Thanos that leads directly into AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR.

Tessa Thompson is indeed playing Broomhilde, the warrior valkyrie. She is Thor’s new romantic interest. It will be established Thor and Jane Foster’s relationship ended on amicable terms due to his responsabilities as the guardian of the Nine Realms preventing them from committing to a life together.

Villains of BLACK PANTHER are High Priest Achebe, Ulysses Klaue and M’Baku. Andy Serkis will reprise his role as Klaw. Martin Freeman is also reprising his role as Everett Ross.

Black Panther’s love interest will be Monica Lynne, reinvented as a political envoy employed by Ross. Other supporting characters are Shuri, T’Challa’s sister; N’Gassi, the royal advisor; Okoye, the leader of the Dora Milaje; Adenbi, Achebe’s loyal follower; and Jack Truman, Lynne’s handler.

Casting is still in early stages, but Marvel has already named Michael Jai White as one of the frontrunners for M’Baku, and had meetings with Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Nicole Beharie, Yaya DaCosta and Sharol Leal for the lead female roles, either Lynne or Shuri or both.

Carol Danvers will appear in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR before CAPTAIN MARVEL, and Emily Blunt is lined up to play her. Emily Carmichel in talks to direct.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – PART 1 will be renamed. First draft has recently been delivered. Apparently set on Earth and centered on the assembly of the Infinity Gauntlet.

CAPTAIN MARVEL will feature the Kree as villains. Not much is set.

ANT-MAN & THE WASP will feature the return of Janet Van Dyne and Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne fighting an old enemy of Hank Pym’s past familiar with the Quantum Realm, but his identity hasn’t yet been determined.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – PART 2 will be set in Space and feature the final battle against Thanos.

INHUMANS will most likely be scrapped.

Chris Evans is expected to renew his contract for more CAPTAIN AMERICA movies in Phase 4. Robert Downey Jr., however, is not. although there’s renewed interest in IRON MAN 4 lately.

Sequels for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, DOCTOR STRANGE, BLACK PANTHER and SPIDER-MAN already in discussions. They’re being optimistic, but more reserved with CAPTAIN MARVEL.

SECRET INVASION and SIEGE are popular storylines that are being considered as overarching storylines of Phase 4 and beyond.

There is a plan for the potential return of the Fantastic Four to the MCU. However, there are no contigencies for the X-Men, which are unlikely to ever return. There is interest in Namor, too.

There is interest in the Sentry, Spider-Woman, Hercules, Photon, Nova. the Young Avengers and the Thunderbolts for Phase 4 and beyond.

Blade, Moon Knight and Ghost Rider are being lined-up for Netflix shows.

BLACK WIDOW is actually of interest, but likely won’t happen in phase 3. Likewise, there’s been debate about a standalone WINTER SOLDIER movie.

There’s a running gag about producing a Supreme Squadron movie, but chances of it actually happening are virtually zero.

Shane Black Predator Movie To Be As Big As Iron Man 3; Arnold Might Be Back

If you happen to be a fan of the Predator, you will probably be happy by what director Shane Black has to same about the new Predator movie coming out in 2018.

Shane Black explains why he decided to take on the new Predator film and cites the reason being that Fox stated they want the movie to be as big as Iron Man 3, which means more epic and a larger budget than any of the other previous Predator movies.

To put it in perspective, the 2010 Predators movie had a budget of around $40 millon, while Iron Man‘s 3 budget was around $200 million.

Fox also says they want to make Predators as eventful and important as a Ridley Scott Alien prequel.

Sounds pretty awesome.

Here’s what Shane Black had to say via Thrillist:

They called me and I was reluctant. I said, “Look. You guys at Fox, I mean, I enjoy these movies, but we’ve been churning out these AVP whatever, they each cost a certain amount of money, they’re okay, but there’s no effort to elevate them or make them any kind of an event.” They’re just sort of another Predator. “Oh, there’s another one that came out.” They said, “What if we said to you we want to reinvent this, and really treat it with as much of an event status, or as much hoopla as we would the Alien prequel, which is coming out also? We really want to make this something. The kind of movie that people line up for.” I said, “Really, you’ll spend a bunch of money?” They go, “Yep.” I go, “Make it really scale, spectacle?” “Yep.” “Shit, that sounds interesting.”

I think the first one was great, and it was contained, and it was a perfect little gem for what it was. I think there’s an expansion that needs to take place, and also just a love for that era, that movie, and the mythology of the Predator. I think that they came to me knowing pretty much that… they said, basically, if I wanted to make Predator but treat it like it was Iron Man III instead of just another little movie. I said, “Let’s really do it right this time.”

And regarding whether or not Arnold Schwarzenegger will be back:

Still in talks, script still a secret.

Joe Russo Hints At No Iron Man Without Robert Downey Jr. For A While

It’s not a pleasant thought to think about, but eventually Robert Downey Jr. will leave the role of Iron Man.

Downey Jr. was considered a gamble back in 2008 to play the role of Tony Stark due to his sordid past, but obviously that gamble paid off as the Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the best movie franchises in existence.

Robert Downey Jr. recently said he doesn’t think an Iron Man 4 will ever happen, but at least he offered if it does, he thinks they should go the villain route with Tony Stark.

Now Joe Russo, co-director behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, and the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War movies, offer his take on what could happen to Iron Man when Robert Downey Jr. stops playing the character.

“It’s almost impossible to replace Robert, he’s the biggest movie star in the world. One close up from Robert is worth another actor’s entire performance, he’s incredibly gifted and insanely talented,” Joe Russo offered to Forbes. “I think if and when he is done with the character, I think you will find that Iron Man might disappear for a while. I think the only way that you could reboot that character is to give a generational gap that would allow another actor to at least have a chance to redefine that character without the enormous spectre of Robert hanging over it. There are so many characters in the Marvel universe that can pick up the ball and run without it through the next phase or two before you need to see Iron Man again, frankly.”

Robert Downey Jr. next appears as Iron Man in May’s “Captain America: Civil War.”

In addition to the Spider-Man details, the latest issue of Empire Magazine reveals Gwyneth Paltrow will be back as Pepper Potts.

Here’s the blurb:

When Empire caught up with the Russo’s recently, they’d already had riotously successful test screenings and were beginning five days of pick-ups to finish off Civil War, with Evans, Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper among those returning. Then, at some point in the next month, they’ll start focusing on Infinity War in earnest. Markus and McFeely have already produced a first draft of that script after spending months breaking the story.

Paltrow was last seen in 2013’s Iron Man 3.

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Synopsis:

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Captain America: Civil War Spider-Man Introduction Rumored

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23836:]]

A new rumor has hit the net regarding details on how Spider-Man will be introduced in Captain America: Civil War.

From the Ant-Man movie (“we got guys who climb up walls”) and interviews with Kevin Feige and the Russo brothers, it’s already known that the Tom Holland Spider-Man will be established in the MCU (no more origin stories).

Now the website Geek.com is possibly providing further details.

According to a source in the know, Peter Parker decides to fight crime as Spider-Man because he is a big fan and idolizes Tony Stark/ Iron Man. It’s said Captain America: Civil War takes place ten years or so after the first Iron Man movie, so Peter would have been 5 years old when he first saw the news broadcasts about Iron Man.

It’s further said Tony Stark has been keeping tabs on “a certain young genius and his superhuman abilities” and goes to Peter Parker to recruit him with an offer of an “advanced Spider-suit to fight in,” which is an upgrade from whatever the 15-year-old Peter Parker has been wearing. Obviously as Peter is such a big fan, he is completely in awe of Tony Stark showing up at his door and accepts the offer.

We can even speculate that further evidence to support the theory/rumor comes from the viral marketing surrounding Ant-Man as the [fictional] WHiH news reports mentioned Tony Stark setting up scholarships for “promising students” in urban schools (i.e. Peter Parker).
