Info:

Marvel Studios has begun principal photography at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, on Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” which is slated to hit U.S. theaters on May 5, 2017. The production will shoot at Atlanta’s Pinewood Studios.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is written and directed by James Gunn (“Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Slither”). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (“Jurassic World,” “Guardians of the Galaxy”) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (“Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Star Trek Into Darkness”) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (“Spectre,” “Guardians of the Galaxy”) as Drax; Vin Diesel (“Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Furious 7”) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (“Joy,” “American Sniper”) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (“Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Jumper”) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (“Guardians of the Galaxy,” “The Big Short”) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (“Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Gilmore Girls”) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (“Oldboy”), Elizabeth Debicki (“The Great Gatsby,” “Everest”), Chris Sullivan (“The Knick,” “The Drop”) and Kurt Russell (“The Hateful Eight,” “Furious 7”).

Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is produced by Marvel Studios’ president, Kevin Feige, with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jonathan Schwartz, Nik Korda and Stan Lee serving as executive producers.

Director James Gunn’s creative team also includes director of photography Henry Braham (“The Legend of Tarzan,” “The Golden Compass”); production designer Scott Chambliss (“Star Trek,” “Tomorrowland”); editors Fred Raskin (“The Hateful Eight,” “Guardians of the Galaxy”) and Craig Wood (“Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End”); composer Tyler Bates (“Guardians of the Galaxy,” “John Wick”); three time Oscar®-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky (“Captain America: Civil War,” “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”); Oscar®-nominated visual effects supervisor Chris Townsend (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Iron Man 3”); stunt coordinator Tommy Harper (“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” ); co-producer / first assistant director Lars Winther (“Captain America: Civil War,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”); and six-time Oscar® nominee, special effects supervisor Dan Sudick (“Captain America: Civil War,”  “The Avengers”).

The original “Guardians of the Galaxy” was a hit with critics and audiences alike, earning over $770 million at the worldwide box-office, and holds the record as the most successful debut film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In addition, the film’s soundtrack went platinum and was nominated for a Grammy®.

Based on the Marvel comic characters first published in 1969, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ” continues the lineage of epic big-screen adventures chronicled in “Iron Man,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “The Avengers,” “Iron Man 3,” “Thor: The Dark World,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Ant-Man,” and the upcoming release schedule, which includes “Captain America: Civil War” on May 6, 2016; “Doctor Strange,” November 4, 2016; “Spider-Man,” July 7, 2017; and “Thor: Ragnarok” on November 3, 2017.

Marvel Studios continued its unprecedented success in 2015 with the release of “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” At the time of release, the film recorded the second biggest opening weekend of all time with a $191.3 million box office. It has also been the #1 release in every country where it has opened and has grossed over $1.4 billion in global box office. The studio also successfully launched another franchise with “Ant-Man,” starring Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas and Evangeline Lilly. The film opened #1 at the box office on July 17 and went on to gross more than $519 million at the worldwide box office. The film propelled the Marvel brands’ #1 domestic box-office opening streak to a record-breaking 12 consecutive films.

James Gunn Responds To Hollywood Exec About Deadpool

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24358:]]

Deadpool has blown away all expectations and has amassed the February box office opening weekend record netting $132.1 million for its three day opening ($150 million when President’s Day is accounted for).

The numbers fly in the face of just about every movie studio executive out there and especially Fox Studios who was hesitant (like 11 years hesitant) to movie forward on an R-rated superhero flick. Only after the test footage was “leaked,” did Fox finally see the light of day — and potential for cash in their wallets.

In their attempt to spin blame away from the studios dropping the ball about Deadpool’s success, Deadline has a quote from a non-Fox studios executive who offered the following reason:

“The film has a self-deprecating tone that’s riotous. It’s never been done before. It’s poking fun at Marvel. That label takes itself so seriously; can you imagine them making fun of themselves in a movie? They’d rather stab themselves.”

This has caused Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn to respond with a lengthy post blasting Deadline and the studio exec, which reads in part:

Deadpool wasn’t that. Deadpool was its own thing. THAT’S what people are reacting to. It’s original, it’s damn good, it was made with love by the filmmakers, and it wasn’t afraid to take risks.

For the theatrical experience to survive, spectacle films need to expand their definition of what they can be. They need to be unique and true voices of the filmmakers behind them. They can’t just be copying what came before them.

Here is the full text from Gunn’s Facebook:

The film has a self-deprecating tone that’s riotous. It’s never been done before. It’s poking fun at Marvel. That label takes itself so seriously, can you imagine them making fun of themselves in a movie? They’d rather stab themselves.”

That’s a quote from Deadline Hollywood, attributing it to a Hollywood “suit.” I love Deadline and get a lot of my film business news from them. And I love Deadpool even more – the film is hilariously funny, has lots of heart, and is exactly what we need right now, taking true risks in spectacle film – but COME THE FUCK ON. That’s no reason to rewrite history. This quote has to have been said by the dumbest fucking Hollywood exec in the history of dumb fucking Hollywood execs.

Let’s ignore Guardians for a moment, a movie that survives from moment to moment building itself up and cutting itself down – God knows I’m biased about that one. But what do you think Favreau and Downey did in Iron Man? What the fuck was Ant-Man??!

Come on, Deadline.

After every movie smashes records people here in Hollywood love to throw out the definitive reasons why the movie was a hit. I saw it happen with Guardians. It “wasn’t afraid to be fun” or it “was colorful and funny” etc etc etc. And next thing I know I hear of a hundred film projects being set up “like Guardians,” and I start seeing dozens of trailers exactly like the Guardians trailer with a big pop song and a bunch of quips. Ugh.

Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

So, over the next few months, if you pay attention to the trades, you’ll see Hollywood misunderstanding the lesson they should be learning with Deadpool. They’ll be green lighting films “like Deadpool” – but, by that, they won’t mean “good and original” but “a raunchy superhero film” or “it breaks the fourth wall.” They’ll treat you like you’re stupid, which is the one thing Deadpool didn’t do.

But hopefully in the midst of all this there will be a studio or two that will take the right lesson from this – like Fox did with Guardians by green-lighting Deadpool – and say – “Boy, maybe we can give them something they don’t already have.”

And that’s who is going to succeed.

Have a great day.

“The film has a self-deprecating tone that’s riotous. It’s never been done before. It’s poking fun at Marvel. That label…

TV Fan Blasts Marc Guggenheim “Over Slap To The Face” Because Of Suicide Squad Movie

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24214:]]

I always love when I hear executives state the movies don’t affect the comics or TV universes.

Case in point: Current Marvel Comics EIC Axel Alonso regularly states the movies don’t affect the comics. We know that isn’t true as Matt Fraction stated the Thor movie interfered with how he wrote his Thor comic; we know Abnett and Lanning were kicked off their Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova comics because of Gunn’s film; we know the Inhumans are replacing the X-Men, and we know Marvel Comics cancelled the Fantastic Four because of the Fox movie. We also know the last ten or so years has seen Marvel Comics focus on the Avengers, and not the X-Men. And Steve Roger is returning as Captain America.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24220:]]

Regarding the DC Comics, legendary creator George Perez was pretty clear when he stated the Man of Steel people messed with his New 52 Superman comic, which is why he left.

And we also know the same happens with the DC TV universe.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24223:]]

Because of the Suicide Squad movie, Deadshot is “off the table,” Harley Quinn was shelved, and with the recent death of Amanda Waller in Arrow, it’s easy to guess the same thing happened with her character. Batman and Superman are also off limits for the Flash and Arrow universe, and Arrow couldn’t use Blue Beetle, so they went with Atom instead. Now it’s learned Deadstroke is also shelved (see below).

We can also speculate as a result of the new Green Lantern Corps movie, that now Green Lantern is also off limits.

There has been some online chatter amongst fans asking why this is the case — as the DC execs regularly state the movie and TV universes are separate. Zack Snyder recently said more of the same. So why then can’t they have the same characters? If I had to guess, my answer as to why the TV characters are being shelved is not to compete with their movie counterparts. We can probably thank Grant Gustin’s Flash for that. I’ve said it before, I think DC has finally found their “Spider-Man” with Grant Gustin as Barry Allen and The Flash. The series is popular amongst casual fans, young fans, hard core fans and older fans (WB really needs to start heavily promoting Gustin and the series). I think WB is going to find it difficult to sell the Ezra Miller Flash to the fanbase. We see they have already started spinning that we should accept Miller because there are different universes. Ezra Miller has probably been coached on the topic as in interviews he’s mentioned multiple realities/universes/dimensions. The controversy has even caused Grant Gustin to come out and tell fans that he supports Miller.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24218:]]

Now executive producer Marc Guggenheim is feeling the heat as fans asked and complained on Tumblr about the TV characters getting the axe, specifically the Arrow Suicide Squad characters with Deadshot, Deathstroke and Amanda Waller.

Fan #1: Any possible chance of either Slade or Walter returning throughout the rest of Season 4? #Arrow

MG: The character of Slade Wilson is currently tied up in another DC project.  Walter is more likely.

Fan #2: You said that only Deadshot was off-limits, and Amanda Waller & Deathstroke are safe. But you guys killed Waller off just like that, and she doesn’t seem like she will ever return(Because bullet to head). Who’s next to be killed off? Katana? Once Deathstroke arrives in the DC movie, will he be also killed off too? This is really frustrating, that all awesome characters are being written off, because of the Suicide Squad movie, and is a slap to the face of Arrow fans.

MG: Um… I never said that.

Arrow‘s Stephen Amell, who may just be as frustrated as a lot of fans are (Amell has been vocal about wanting to be in Justice League with Gustin as the movie Flash), recently stated in an interview he thinks Arrow is missing Deathstroke.

“Manu [Bennett] is a character, and Manu played a great character. And I really honestly think that Arrow has been missing something since he hasn’t been around. I really do. He was a transformative villain. I would really love it if Deathstroke could keep being a part of the Arrow universe,” Amell said.

Sorry to say, Stephen, per Guggenheim’s words, that isn’t going to be the case. Let’s just hope Green Arrow doesn’t appear in the DCCU any time soon, eh?

Chris Pratt Teases Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix Vol. 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24098:]]

Following yesterday’s behind-the-scenes pic of the cast, now Chris Pratt has taken to Instagram to tease Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Pratt posted an image of the Sony Walkman with the “Awesome Mix Vol. 2” cassette inside adding:

Feels good to be back in action on Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2!!! I can’t even tell you how excited I am. Ok I’ll try. I’m ecstatic. I’m bursting with joy. I’m overwhelmed by feelings of enthusiasm, joy, gratitude, conviviality, camaraderie, elation, exhilaration. I just used an online thesaurus for these words. I suggest trying that. That way instead of saying “I’m very excited” say, “I’m exhilarated.” Never too late to learn words. The pen is mightier than the sword. I never got that. I could whoop someone’s ass if I had a sword and they only had a pen. WAIT!!! Now I get it. Cause you could use a giant pen with a dagger on one end? And a gun on the other end? No? Whatever. Point is… Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. Is going to be the greatest spectacle film of all time. This is not…. bear with me… using online thesaurus….. Hyperbole! This is not hyperbole!

James Gunn Teases Quasar For Guardians of the Galaxy 2? Probably Not

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24016:]]

Hasbro recently announced a Quasar Hasbro Marvel Legends action figure!

Quasar was recently announced by Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel Comics Editor Bill Rosemann to be a part of the Lego Marvel Avengers video game (now available!)!

And now James Gunn may have teased Quasar for Guardians of the Galaxy 2?!

Coincidence?! Wishful thinking?!

Yeah, probably.

Gunn posted something rather odd on his Facebook page when remarking he participated in a table read of the script with the cast. Gunn said “someone spelled out star’s name wrong so I had to correct it for him.” Gunn then posted an image of the “corrected” spelling of Chris Pratt’s name: “QRIS PRAT.”

I’ve already read more than a few comments online by fans suggesting it’s a reference to Quasar, Marvel’s Protector of the Universe and weilder of the Quantum-Bands. Obviously the use of the “Q” may suggest Quasar, as well as maybe the “star” mention, as Quasar has a star symbol on his chest (and the inside of his cape is a star field). However, it seems like a stretch as Gunn has previously said he is only using Star-Lord as the only human (and hence why no Richard Rider Nova).

We can suggest another possibility, as there was a second Quasar who was a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy comic book, but we highly doubt Gunn would go there and face the wrath of the rabid Quasar fans. Right, James?!

The good news is that Quasar actually might already be a part of the MCU as his father may have been mentioned in episodes of Agents Of SHIELD; however, we would much rather see Quasar on the big screen. We’re definitely not giving up hope especially considering what Disney CEO Bob Iger said about there being thousands of Marvel characters, and that they are never going to stop making Marvel movies (sounds like Quasar’s odds just went up)!

Check out Gunn’s post:

Fans Campaign James Gunn For Al Pacino As Ego The Living Planet In Guardians of the Galaxy 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23979:]]

Al Pacino may be appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and a recent rumor stated Ego The Living Planet may be a villain.

How about Al Pacino providing the voice of Ego?

That’s what a group of fans came up with on Twitter as they tweeted Guardians of the Galaxy 2 director James Gunn with the hashtag: #PacinoTheLivingPlanet.

“Hi @JamesGunn, I’m campaigning 4 Pacino as Ego in #GotG2 with his famous line “HOO-AH… SPACE!” We mean you no harm,” one fan tweeted.

James Gunn seemed to enjoy the thought of Al Pacino as Ego as he replied back:

“Haha. What a feed to wake up to- @wikipediabrown @mrsundaymovies -tho I’d be more assured of sincerity if folks knew how to spell Pacino!”

So is Al Pacino as Ego the Living Planet a possibility? Doesn’t sound like it if the following tweet from Gunn is anything to go by.

“And so sad to disappoint as your enthusiasm is invigorating but my film has long been written and essentially cast,” Gunn said.

So who could Al Pacino be playing in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 if he has a role? The answer is pretty obvious if you are a fan of the comics. We already know Benicio Del Toro will not be returning as The Collector (Del Toro is the rumored villain for Star Wars: Episode VIII), so who better to replace The Collector than his cosmic brother, The Grandmaster?!

Al Pacino previously stated he was interested in appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and has even participated in talks with Marvel. Gunn has also said he would like to work with Pacino.

Grandmaster sounds like a good choice to us.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 has a May 5, 2017 release.

Guardians of the Galaxy’s Nicole Perlman To Write New Labyrinth Movie

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23972:]]

A mere 12 days following the death of David Bowie, it’s learned another Labyrinth movie is in the works.

Bowie, who recently passed away due to cancer, played the Goblin King in the 1986 movie that also featured Jennifer Connelly.

While THR reports the Labyrinth movie will be a reboot, the writer on the script, Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Nicole Perlman, took to Twitter to offer it’s not a reboot. So it’s possible the new Labryrinth project could either be a sequel or spinoff, or even something different.

Perlman wrote the first draft of the Guardians of the Galaxy script for Marvel prior to James Gunn coming on board, and she is co-writing the Captain Marvel movie.

Jim Henson’s daughter, Lisa Henson, will be producing the new Labyrinth movie. The original was directed by Jim Henson.

Ego The Living Planet Rumored Villain For Guardians of the Galaxy 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23927:]]

So following Ronan, who might the Guardians of the Galaxy take on next?

How about Ego The Living Planet?

Geek.com is stating sources closed to production have stated Ego is set to make an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy 2

We can even speculate the use of Ego might even mean The Stranger, as The Stranger created Ego (a recent ret-con).

I’ve never been a big fan of Ego, but at least Guardians of the Galaxy 2 won’t end in a dance off this time. Right, bro?

Ego did appear in issues of Abnett and Lanning’s Nova when the Worldmind gave Ego the Nova Force.

The Stranger is a pretty cool character as I first came upon him in the pages of Quasar, which even featured a Rocket Raccoon cameo (Quasar #15, I believe).

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 hits May 5, 2017.

Guardians of Infinity Tops 100k; Richard Rider Nova Still Sells Better Than NINO

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23771:]]

As much BS as Tom “Rumpelstiltskin” Brevoort likes to spin on his Tumblr, there is no denying that Richard Rider Nova is a better seller than his replacement, NINO (“Nova In Name Only”).

The most recent issue of NINO, December’s #2, is already under 30K and is again fast approaching cancellation numbers with only 27k in sales (2007 Richard Rider Nova #2 had around 45k).

Further good news comes in the form of the December sales for Abnett’s first issue of Guardians of Infinity which topped 100,000 copies; albeit in part due to being featured in the December Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel Collector’s Corps geek box. Hey, but we’re not complaining.

Following Marvel Studios green lighting the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Marvel Comics under Dan Buckley, Joe Quesada, Axel Alonso, Jeph Loeb, Brian Michael Bendis and Tom Brevoort removed Abnett and Lanning and did away with their popular and best-selling Marvel Cosmic line of comics, which included the 2008 Guardians of the Galaxy team that inspired the new billion dollar Disney franchise.

Richard Rider Nova was also a part of the line and was replaced with a childish wannabe Spider-Man. Sales for the first launch of NINO quickly collapsed and Loeb was announced off the book with the the publication of the second issue. Since then, NINO has consistently sold less than Richard Rider Nova.

The Richard Rider Nova Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel Infinite Action figure was even the best-selling figure of the line – outselling Rocket, Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax and Iron Man – and he wasn’t even featured in the movie.

Fans also voted Richard Rider Nova into the Marvel Heroes 2015 video game, ahead of NINO.

It doesn’t stop there as obviously Disney recognizes the potential of Richard Rider Nova as they continue to put out merchandise in his name, with the latest being the Thanos Imperative Dice Masters Game. We’ll also throw in Hasbro is putting out a Quasar figure based on DnA’s Realm Of Kings and Annihilators.

While Marvel Comics – for some odd reason – is keeping Richard Rider Nova in the dark, it’s hoped with the Marvel Studios Avengers: Infinity War movies that Richard Rider Nova might make a cameo. The directors on the two-parter, Anthony and Joe Russo, recently let it be known they are keeping track of 67 Marvel characters. Hopefully, Rich is among them.

Sounds Like No Benicio Del Toro For Guardians of the Galaxy 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23770:]]

With James Gunn due to begin filming Guardians of the Galaxy 2 in February, it’s learned The Collector more than likely will be not a part of the sequel.

ComingSoon.net recently caught up with Benicio Del Toro who offered he’s doubutful he’ll return.

“I don’t think so,” Del Toro said when asked about The Collector returning. “They would have told me, I hope… I do hope to play that character again at some point.”

As noted, it’s possible Benicio Del Toro could return as The Collector in a later film as in the post-credits sequence to Thor: The Dark World, The Collector is given the Aether (the Reality Infinity Stone) for safe keeping (Thanos will need to aquire it for the Infinity War movies.

While The Collector may not appear, it’s speculated his cosmic brother, The Grandmaster, may, with Al Pacino possibly playing the character.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has a May 5, 20117 release.

Thanos Won’t Be Messing Around In Next Appearance

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23633:]]

The Mad Titan has been less than angry (or crazy) in his appearances thus far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that’s all about to change for Thanos.

While Thanos appeared in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige (and recently director James Gunn) says not to look for Thanos in the sequel.

“I wouldn’t look to hard in that movie for Thanos,” Feige told Empire Magazine about Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Feige continues with mention Thanos will be more than just a cameo that smirks when we see him next.

“Are you asking if he’s going to do more than sit in a chair and smirk? Oh, yes,” Feige offered. “The next time we see Thanos he will not be messing around. It will be, “Oh, that’s why they’ve been teasing this villain for five years!'”

The article then speculates the “smart money” is on Thanos coming to Earth to retrieve the Infinity Stone from Vision’s head in Avengers: Infinity War Part 1.

Regarding Guardians of the Galaxy 2, while Thanos may not be featured, new members will.

“There have been many different incarnations of the Guardians over the years in the comics,” Feige said. “And we’ll catch a glimpse of additions over the course of the movie.”

Watch Thanos’s appearances in the MCU below as well as the Infinity War featurette.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” has a May 5, 2017 release; “The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1” hits May 4, 2018.

New Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Casting Call Surfaces

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23620:]]

A second casting call for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 has gone out, which will probably get James Gunn in trouble once again (lol).

The previous Guardians of the Galaxy 2 casting call from October saw some people online complain about the request for beautiful alien models (what? do people think we really want to see ugly aliens, guys? lol). The (a?) complaint(s) actually caused James Gunn to take to social media to respond.

While there are obviously more important things to worry about than the look of the aliens in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (like getting Richard Rider Nova in the movie!), if you are beautiful enough, you can potentially get cast as an extra.

Here are the latest details, again via Tammy Smith Casting in Atlanta.

“Guardians of the Galaxy 2” blasts of May 5, 2017.

James Gunn Talks Captain America: Civil War & Tom Holland Spider-Man

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23544:]]

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn just participated in a live Facebook Q&A where he tackeled the topic of Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man. Obviously Gunn couldn’t offer specific details, but he did state the following:

I really like the [Doctor Strange] script. What I really like is… I saw Civil War, and I think it’s incredible. I think it’s one of the best Marvel movies ever. I can’t believe what a wonderful job the Russo brothers did and the cast. Oh my, God. They are so good. So it’s an amazing film and people are going to be excited to see that come Summer time. It’s really great.

On Tom Holland playing Spider-Man:

Tom Holland is off the charts awesome. Off the charts, truly, Hand to my heart amazing.

Gunn also offered Thanos won’t be a part (or a major part?) of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 as it’s its own story. Guardians 2 starts filming in February for a May 5, 2017 release.

Kurt Russell Confirms Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Talks

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23453:]]

A few days ago it was said Kurt Russell is James Gunn’s choice to play Star-Lord’s father in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and now the actor has confirmed talks have taken place.

Kurt Russell appeared on an MTV podcast offering he has spoken to Gunn about it, but hasn’t seen the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, so he is not sure if he will take the role.

“I literally got a phone call two days ago about this,” Russell said. “I’ve never seen Guardians of the Galaxy, so I don’t know anything about it. Many times I’ve heard, ‘That’s a really fun movie, a really good movie [with] great characters.’ I don’t know it!”

“I didn’t realize that [James Gunn] had written and directed it, but we talked to each other on the phone,” Russell explained. “And I just had to be honest and say, ‘Thank you for considering me, I have to read [the script], and I have to watch the [first] movie because I can’t bring anything for you [right now]. I’ve got nothing to offer here. So, I’m amazed to get asked about this because everybody knows more about it than I do.”

“It could be a one line thing for all I know,” Russell offered. “But yeah, we’re talking about it… there’s just nothing to talk about at the moment.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has a May 5, 2017 release.

It’s being reported Kurt Russell is director James Gunn’s top choice to play Star-Lord’s father in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

The Wrap reports Marvel has not officially offered Russell the role, nor has Russell read the script, but it’s said meetings are expected to take place soon.

Star-Lord’s father looks to play big part in the sequel, with Gunn previously offering Star-Lord’s father is not the same in the movie as in the Marvel comic books. There’s been lots of speculation amongst fans as to who could be Star-Lord’s father in the movie ranging from Adam Warlock to Starhawk.

Kurt Russell is currently starring in Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight.
