DC Rumors: Green Lantern Sinestro Corps War, Man of Steel 2 & HBO TV Series

Following up on the last batch of DCEU rumors, which interestingly enough did list Doug Liman as directing a DC movie (but not Justice League Dark), now the latest rumors also include DC TV shows.

Worth a mention is that the rumors state WB may be eyeing more serious takes on DC TV characters akin to Game of Thrones with shows on HBO. It’s also said some of the new rumored TV series might tie into the DC movie universe as well.

Other rumors mention Zack Snyder off Justice League 2; Man of Steel 2 definitely happening and without Snyder; George Miller eyed for a Jack Kirby property (New Gods was previously rumored); Suicide Squad 2 in the works; the Green Lantern Corps movie would be based on Geoff Johns’ Sinestro War (would be awesome!), and lots more.

Obviously take these with a grain of salt as a reddit user put together the following list from 4Chan:

  1. Booster Gold is still in the works, treated more as a Deadpool February release film. No production date set.

  2. Lobo is currently up in the air, being eyed as a potential TV series set in the DCEU movie universe.

  3. Deathstroke no longer in the works. Ayer wanted to use him in Suicide Squad 2, will have an antagonist role.

  4. Metal Men being eyed as a start for animated DC movies. If Lego Batman is successful, Warner plans to push forward development and Warner Animation Group will create the movie.

  5. WB wants to make a few “in-universe” tv shows for the DCEU, multiple smaller teams and smaller characters being eyed. WB wants these shows to be “premium cable” type shows akin to Game Of Thrones

  6. Fables Movie adapt canceled. Currently being eyed as a television show, although worried it may draw the comparison from Once Upon a Time. Up in the air if it will happen or not.

  7. Sandman movie currently being developed. Giving it as much time as it needs to develop. Could very well be canceled. Joaquin Pheonix approached after Joseph Levitt left.

  8. Sam Raimi being courted to direct a DCEU movie.

  9. 100 bullets still in development, although will not at all be marketed as a comic-related movie. Will have the Vertigo banner, but will be along the lines of Kingsman. Was envisioned as a “Sin City” type film, but is currently now a singular story. Will focus on one man’s story with the gun, and have appearances throughout by the Minutemen and the Trust.

  10. The Question being developed for HBO as a smaller scale “gritty noir” show.

  11. Suicide Squad 2 production begins soon, Ayer started writing the script in July, expected to shoot late-spring 2017. Will reportedly be dialed back from SS1, with less CGI, a more human threat, and no pop music at all. Slightly lower budget.

  12. George Miller attracted to making a Jack Kirby property movie, working on Mad Max sequel in-between potential DCEU movie.

  13. Man of Steel 2 is happening, Snyder not returning to direct.

  14. Snyder no longer wants to return to direct JL 2, has opted out. Plans to direct a smaller scale movie for next project.

  15. Shazam to be a one-off movie unless it does extremely well.

  16. Cyborg currently up in the air. If he’s a breakout character in JL, he will get a movie, if not, it’ll be repurposed.

  17. Legion of Superheroes canceled. Deemed “too early” to be developed.

  18. Darkseid could potentially be saved for JL 3, having more background development in other movies for New Gods and Apokolips. New Gods property being heavily eyed as a film.

  19. Green Lantern Corps will be an adaptation of Sinestro Corps War. Will have Guy Gardener, John Stewart, and Hal Jordan as the only human lanterns. Red Lanterns won’t appear but will be teased.

  20. JSA was originally being worked on, expected to be teased in Wonder Woman with them being in WWI instead of WWII heroes. The idea was scrapped due to it not fitting the general plot of Wonder Woman. It was decided to relegate these characters to the CW shows.

  21. Scalped being worked on by WGN network. Was held up with Doug Jung working on Star Trek movie. Jung expected to show run the series. Geoff Johns wrote the pilot.

  22. WB wants to keep a 3-year release schedule with solo movies for A-listers . Wants to keep diversity in the lineup and keep filmgoers interested without being fatigued. On DC Animated movies, plans are to increase production to 4 movies per year. Doing “event” animated movies with a limited theater release ala Killing Joke will probably happen yearly.

  23. Old scripts being revitalized as animated movies might still happen. Batman Beyond script by Boaz Yakin has been floating around.

DC Movie Rumors Includes J.J Abrams For Man of Steel 2

A new batch of DC movie rumors has hit the net.

They come from 4 Chan so obviously take this with a grain of salt, but at least they’re rather fun.

We see J.J. Abrams is listed as a contender to do the second Superman Man of Steel 2 film. Abrams did write the Superman: Flyby script around 2002, plus he has had success reinventing the Star Trek and Star Wars‘ franchises. Maybe Superman needs a reinvention as well?

Spider-Man director Sam Raimi is said to be up for Dwayne Johnson’s Shazam, which isn’t a bad choice at all. It’s possible Sam Raimi may want another crack at a superhero franchise following the disappointing Spider-Man 3, and also there is the fact that his Spider-Man 4 never got made.

George Miller, who was said to be directing Man of Steel 2, is listed as directing a New Gods movie. Miller is also rumored to be a producer on Justice League.

Gravity‘s Alfonso Cuaron is said to be in talks for the Green Lantern Corps movie. Cuaron also directed Children of Men and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

It’s said Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins may be directing Justice League 2, which would mean Zack Snyder wouldn’t be returning for the sequel.

The rumors also include a list of release dates for upcoming DC movies. Worth a mention is that a Cyborg movie is missing. It seems a majority of the rumors coming out of 4Chan seem to insinuate a Cyborg movie might be off the table; however, earlier yesterday saw the news that Cyborg is being included in Justice League and The Flash to increase interest in the character and the planned 2020 Cyborg movie.

The release dates list below also has Ben Affleck’s solo The Batman movie hitting in 2019, which may hold some merit as Affleck and Geoff Johns may be taking their time to get the script right.

Here is the full list of rumors (via Reddit):

• Top candidates to direct Man of Steel 2 are Doug Liman, J.J Abrams and Edgar Wright.

•  Top candidates to direct Shazam are Sam Raimi and Shawn Levy.

• New Gods will be directed by George Miller.

• Alfonso Cuaron is on talks to direct Green Lantern Corps.

• Patty Jenkins might direct Justice League II.

• David Ayer will direct Suicide Squad 2.

• Warner Bros will be making casting and film announcements for their films in early September.

• Ocean Master will be in Aquaman but Black Manta will be the main villain. Ocean Master is being saved for a later film.

• Deathstroke will be in Suicide Squad 2.

• Multiple TV shows that connect to the DCEU have been discussed. Titans and Secret Six are the top candidates.

Rumored DC movie release dates list:

Wonder Woman- June 2nd, 2017
Justice League- November 17th, 2017
The Flash- April 13th, 2018
Aquaman- July 27th, 2018
Man of Steel 2- October 5th, 2018
Shazam- April 5th, 2019
Batman- June 14th, 2019
Suicide Squad 2- November 1st, 2019
New Gods- April 3rd, 2020
Green Lantern Corps- July 24th, 2020
Justice League II- October 2nd, 2020

Captain Marvel Movie Origin Changing Because Of Green Lantern

When you think of Captain Marvel Carol Danvers, do you also think of Green Lantern?

I never have, but maybe that’s because I can distinguish the two. More than likely the blame lies with the same audience that Tom Hiddleston recently revealed caused Loki to be cut from The Avengers 2.

Captain Marvel co-writer Nicole Perlman, who also wrote an early script for Guardians of the Galxy, stated on the Any Time With Vin Forte podcast that they are reinventing Carol Danver’s origin story for the Captain Marvel movie.

“She’s obviously such an incredibly kick-ass character and Kelly Sue DeConnick did a great run with her story arc recently,” Perlman said. “But here’s the thing: if you were just going to do a straight adaptation of the comics, her origin story is very similar to Green Lantern. And obviously, that’s not what we want to do. There’s a lot of reinvention that needs to happen.”

Perlman is writing Captain Marvel with Meg LeFauve and says it’s been a blast so far.

“It’s a little bit of an interesting story gauntlet. It’s been good to have a partner. It’s been an incredible experience. If we can pull it off it could be an incredibly important but also really fun and kick-ass superhero film,” she said.

Regarding the similarities between Captain Marvel and Green Lantern, both are in the Air Force and receive their powers from aliens.

I’ll throw this out there: Perhaps they are changing up Captain Marvel’s origin story because they may feel it’s too similar to Richard Rider Nova’s origin as he, too, received his powers from an alien. Nova is already rumored for Marvel Phase 4, maybe Marvel wants to give Nova the alien origin instead of Captain Marvel? We can hope.

“Captain Marvel” has a March 8, 2019 release starring Brie Larson.

IDW Announces TMNT / Batman & Star Trek / Green Lantern Crossovers

IDW Publishing and DC Entertainment Announce Two New Crossovers

New Batman/TMNT Adventures and Star TrekTM/Green Lantern Crossovers Forthcoming

San Diego, CA – IDW Publishing and DC Entertainment will continue their successful editorial mash-ups and bring fans two new comic book crossovers based on some of their most popular properties, including a sequel to the smash-hit co-publishing venture Star Trek/Green Lantern and an all new crossover with animation-inspired versions of Batman and Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

“We’re very happy to extend our ongoing relationship with DC with these iconic characters in new storylines,” says Greg Goldstein, President and COO of IDW Publishing. “Fans who enjoyed the previous series will enjoy the fun, new adventures we have in store for these upcoming titles.”

Captain Kirk and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise will once again cross paths with the Green Lantern Corps in a sequel to last year’s Star Trek/Green Lantern series. The creative team of Mike Johnson and Angel Hernandez will reteam for another epic space opera, this one picking up the new status quo where it left off and introducing additional cosmic heroes and villains familiar to fans of both series. This series is slated for a winter 2016 launch.

Following the recent success of Batman/TMNT, IDW, DC, and Nickelodeon are also happy to announce another pairing between the Caped Crusader and the Ninja Turtles: Batman/TMNT Adventures, coming this November. Based on the animated versions of both series, this storyline for fans of all ages will bring the Dark Knight of the beloved Batman: The Animated Series in contact with Nickelodeon’s animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The dynamic duo of writer Matthew K. Manning (Beware the Batman) and artist Jon Sommariva (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Amazing Adventures) will team on the series.

“The previous Star Trek/Green Lantern and Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossovers were a huge hit with fans of each of the characters,” said Hank Kanalz, DC SVP of Editorial Strategy and Administration. “Bringing these characters back again, and expanding Batman and the Turtles to the realm where they’re most recognized by comic fans and fans of the TV series will make for a great story that any fan can’t wait to read.”

“It’s always a blast to pair up beloved characters in comic series, and our recent pairings with DC have been especially satisfying on a creative level and in regards to fan satisfaction, too,” said Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer. “Being able to bring Ciro Nieli’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to the amazing animated Gotham envisioned by Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski is a major bonus.”

Stay tuned for more upcoming news regarding these massively popular pairings from two of today’s most premier comic book publishers.

Matt Damon Would Play A Ben Affleck-Directed Super Hero

As Matt Damon happens to be best friends with Ben Affleck, many fans have joked about Damon playing Robin to Affleck’s Batman.

Speaking with the Irish Examiner, while Damon laughs at the idea of Robin, he does admit he would be open to playing a superhero if Ben Affleck was directing.

“I’d consider anything with the right director, but I can’t imagine there are any superheroes left, I think they’re all taken at this moment,” Damon said. “If [Ben] was directing me, I’d jump on it in a New York minute. I’d love to work with Ben.

“The problem with Ben is every time he directs a movie, he gives himself the best role in it,” Damon continues. “So until he’s willing to give up the best role to one of his friends, we’re not going to get on with it.”

As noted, perhaps with Affleck unwilling to give up the best superhero role (Batman), maybe Matt Damon could take on the role of a villain?

Or for that matter, a superhero that hasn’t yet been cast in the DCEU: Matt Damon as Green Lantern Hal Jordan?

Matt Damon has also drawn some heat as of late over his words regarding gun control. The actor makes his living making millions off of movies that include guns, but Damon recently stated he would like to see the U.S. adopt Australia’s strict gun control laws.

Green Lantern Character Joins Arrow Season 5

There has been hints and teases of Green Lantern in the CW DC TV universe for a while now.

We’ve seen various Coast City Easter Eggs in Arrow and The Flash, and even Stephen Amell has teased Green Lantern.

Now a Green Lantern-related character has been cast for Arrow Season 5.

TV Line reports Carly Pope (The Tomorrow People) will play the recurring role of Susan Williams, a journalist from nearby Coast City who comes to Star City “looking to make a name for herself” by targeting Oliver Queen for a big story.

In the DC comics, Susan Williams is married to Jim Jordan, the younger brother of Green Lantern Hal Jordan.

Hopefully this means more Green Lantern to come.

Now whether that actually happens seems to be currently up in the air as it’s been said Green Lantern has been ruled out of TV because of the upcoming Green Lantern Corps movie; however, that isn’t for a few years off, and now Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) will be in the CW DC universe, which may be a sign that WB’s policies are changing (Suicide Squad characters axed in Arrow because of movie, etc).

“Arrow” Season 5 premiers Wednesday, October 5th.

Robert Kazinsky Wants To Play Green Lantern Guy Gardner

With the Green Lantern Corps movie in the works, actors and fans are letting their voices be known about which character they would like/want to play.

Idris Elba, Tyreese, Ice Cube, and DeMark Thompson are among those mentioned for a possible Green Lantern John Stewart.

Batman Vs. Superman‘s Dan Amboyer even had some fun with the fans by teasing Hal Jordan. It’s thought WB created last year’s Green Lantern concept art using Chris Pine’s likeness as well (Pine is now starring in Wonder Woman).

What we haven’t had is many recommendations for Guy Gardner, but the good news is now we do.

Robert Kazinsky, known for True Blood and Warcraft, answered a fan’s question on Twitter about what superhero he would like to play with mention of Green Lantern Guy Gardner.

“If I was younger, Barry Allen. Other than that, Guy Gardner. I’ll take him,” Kazinsky said. “I’ll play Darkseid. Can I play Darkseid? I’d like to play Darkseid. Oh, can I be Batman [smiles]? I’d like to be Batman as well. Maybe Supes, I could definitely be Superman. Is there anyone I wouldn’t like to be superhero-wise? Captain Britain, I’ll be him. Wonder Twins — I can’t play twins. I can be a bucket [background laughter] …”

It’s unknown when the Green Lanterns will first appear in the DCEU, but there is speculation it may not be until the second Justice League movie in 2019. Hopefully we’ll at least get a nod to Green Lantern in the first Justice League movie if he isn’t set to appear.

DeMark Thompson Still Eyeing Green Lantern Role

DeMark Thompson, known for The Hunger Games, is still eyeing a Green Lantern role.

Now DeMark Thompson has been active again on Instagram as the actor regularly posts images using the hashtag “#greenlantern.”

“I’m still in it for the role of John Stewart aka The Green Lantern,” Thompson posted.

It’s unknown when Green Lantern will first appear in the DCEU. To date, there hasn’t been anything official or teased to suggest a Green Lantern could show up in Justice League, but WB did announce a Green Lantern Corps movie thought to have a 2020 release date.

WB did also reveal Green Lantern concept art at last year’s Comic-Con, and most recently at the Licensing Expo saw WB release a new Green Lantern Corps logo.
