James Gunn has teased Green Lantern on social media, which possibly means the Lanterns TV series is in the works.
Gunn also cast his buddy, Nathan Fillion, as Guy Gardner Green Lantern in his upcoming Superman movie starring David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel.
Gunn didnât include any text with the post, but the image is from the DC Comics and features Hal Jordan raising his arm and ring in the air as he is about to recite the Green Lantern oath, âIn brightest day, in blackest nightâŠâ

âEnormous TV event series follows intergalactic copsâ
Since the art features Hal Jordan, maybe that means Gunn has cast Hal in the DCU for the Lanterns TV series which was first announced in the big DCU announcement at the end of January 2023.
âThis enormous TV event series follows intergalactic cops John Stewart and Hal Jordan as they uncover a dark mystery,â states the official description.
Gunn also teased the series in a video announcement: âThe next thing is a big premiere HBO television series called Lanterns. This is the story of a couple of Green Lanterns, John Stewart and Hal Jordan, and we have a few other Lanterns peppered in there.âÂ
Gunn also described the show: âThis is really a terrestrial-based TV show which is almost like True Detective with a couple of Green Lanterns who are space cops watching over precinct Earth. In it, they discover a terrifying mystery that ties into our larger story of the DCU.â

âItâs terrestrial-basedâ
DCU co-head Peter Safran also said at the time, âOur vision for this is True Detective. Itâs terrestrial-based, itâs got two of our favorite Green Lanterns âHal Jordan and John StewartâŠit plays a really big role in the main story that weâre telling across our film and Television. This is a very important show for us.â
Gunn also confirmed the Green Lantern suits will use practical effects and they wonât be CGI like was used in the 2011 Green Lantern movie that flopped starring Ryan Reynolds.
âI can ever remember having a CGI suit unless it was on a CGI character,â Gunn previously responded to a fan on threads.

Guy Gardner is 90% flawed
Nathan Fillion also recently talked playing Guy Gardner and what draws him to the character.
âThe reality is that people have flaws. We all have quirks. We all have vulnerabilities. You could have the most wonderful family, but be like, âOh, my God, my dad drives me nuts. Heâs got this one thing.â Everybodyâs got something, and I love to lean into those faults and flaws,â he said. âItâs what makes people real and what allows audiences to relate, because we all know what that is. We all have our own. We witness it in other people.â
Fillion added, âGuy Gardner is 90% flawed and doesnât care. Thatâs one of his flaws. I think thereâs a real freedom in playing that. So, for a guy who likes to play flaws and flawed people, Guy Gardner is a gold mine.â
