Jenna Coleman Confirms Leaving Doctor Who

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22164:]]

Jenna Coleman has confirmed reports she is leaving Doctor Who and that Series 9 will be her final season.

Coleman is leaving to star as Queen Victora for an ITV production.

“I have left the Tardis – it’s happened. I’ve filmed my last scenes,” Coleman told the BBC. “It’s been in the works for a very long time. [Writer] Steven [Moffat] and I sat down a year and a half ago and tried to work out the best place to do it and tell a really good story. We’re not going to give any details but it will happen at some point this season… We worked out a really good story arc out so hopefully people will love it.”

Coleman continued with mention it was a tough decision.

“There are not a lot of jobs where you get to have an alien as your best mate and get to run away from monsters… it’s been so much fun, I love it,” she said. It’s such a unique beast it’s been really special. I think I’m in denial. I see Peter all the time and I still see Matt all the time, so I kind of believe I still have the keys to the Tardis.”

“Doctor Who” returns for Series 9 this Saturday the 19th on BBCA.

Alex Kingston To Return For Doctor Who 2015 Christmas Special

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21944:]]

The BBC has announced Alex Kingston will reprise as River Song for the 2015 Doctor Who Christmas special.

Time traveller River Song meets her husband’s new incarnation, in the form of Peter Capaldi, for the first time this Christmas.

Day one of filming the eleventh Doctor Who Christmas Special starts this week and is written by Lead Writer and Executive Producer, Steven Moffat, produced by Nikki Wilson and directed by Douglas Mackinnon (Doctor Who, Sherlock).

River Song made her first Doctor Who appearance in 2008 in ‘Silence in the Library’ and ‘Forest of the Dead’ and has appeared in 15 episodes to date.

Award winning Alex Kingston comments on her reappearance, “To be honest, I did not know whether River would ever return to the show, but here she is, back with the Doctor for the Christmas special. Steven Moffat is on glittering form, giving us an episode filled with humour and surprise guest castings. I met Peter for the first time at Monday’s read through, we had a laugh, and I am now excited and ready to start filming with him and the Doctor Who team. Christmas in September? Why not!”

Steven Moffat, Lead Writer and Executive Producer, adds, “Another Christmas, another special for Doctor Who – and what could be more special than the return of Alex Kingston as Professor River Song? The last time the Doctor saw her she was a ghost. The first time he met her, she died. So how can he be seeing her again? As ever, with the most complicated relationship in the universe, it’s a matter of time…”

The witty line-up of guest cast joining Alex for a magical adventure on the TARDIS will be announced over the coming months.

Doctor Who returns to BBC One on Saturday, September 19th with a 12 episode series, followed by the Christmas special on Friday, December 25th.

First Look At Doctor Who Series 9

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21207:]]

Check out a first look at Peter Capaldi from Doctor Who Series 9, which premiers this Fall.

Capladi will be attending his first Comic-Con as well.

Via EW:

Are you looking forward to Comic-Con?

Very much. Comic-Con is so legendary, so a great thrill to be invited along.

You told me last year that, as a child, you were always more intrigued than frightened by Doctor Who. But are you nervous at all about appearing in front of 7,000 people at the Doctor Who panel?

Very nervous. Don’t think I’ver ever stood in front of 7,000 people in my life. But if 7,000 people want to see us, it would be rude not to turn up.

If you were going to walk the Comic-Con floor disguised as a monster from Doctor Who, or as anything or anyone else, what or who would it be?

A white walker from Game of Thrones. Or, fromDoctor Who, a menoptra.

Could you tease the two-part premiere?

It places the Doctor in a conflict that is central to his being, as well as containning some subtle tributes to the ’60s, and truly wonderful guest performances.

What can you tell us about the exclusive photograph from the premiere (see above)?

The photo shows the Doctor about to make a mistake that has cataclysmic repercussions.

How is the Doctor different this season from last?

He’s throwing himself into life with a newfound hunger for adventure. He’s in pursuit of joy and grabbing every thrill that he can along the way. But I sense him running from something, that even he does not yet understand.

Tell us about the villains and monsters the Doctor will be encountering this season?

There is an epic sweep to this season and I think the villains and monsters reflect that. Great new ones, brilliant old ones, and some very scary creatures looming in stories with real emotional ambition.

And Missy?

In the hands of Michelle Gomez, Missy is more magnificently bad than ever before.

Maisie Williams is one of the new season’s guest stars. How was working with her?

Maisie is fantastic. A sharp, talented tornado. As an 18-year-old, she has taught me many new words and expressions. All I’ll say about her character is she shifts in cosmic ways.

How would you describe the relationship between your Doctor and Jenna Coleman’s Clara this season?

They’ve suddenly realized that they are the most fortunate people in all of time and space and are hellbent on adventure. Jenna continutes to deliver a beautifully nuanced, complex, and funny performance that marks her out as one of the best companions ever.

More Doctor Who For At Least 5 Years

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19929:]]

Good news for fans of Doctor Who as the series will be on to at least 2020.

Speaking on the long-term plans for the series, Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat told the Radio Times, “I thought it would last ten years. I didn’t think it would last ten years with BBC Worldwide trying to get me in a room to talk about their plan for the next five years!”

The new Doctor Who series debuted back in 2005 and continues to be a major draw for the BBC, with last season averaging about 2.3 million viewers an episode.

“It’s going to do a minimum of 15 [years]. I mean, it could do 26! That’s not to say its easy. Ten years on, our ratings are pretty much the same,” Moffat told Doctor Who magazine. “Actually, internationally, bigger. No show does that! You’re meant to go down! Doctor Who just stays. It’s extraordinary!”

Moffat did say the BBC expected Doctor Who to lose ratings as the show progressed through the year as it’s “not easy finding new Doctors” and “there’s nothing easy about doing Doctor Who,” – however, just the opposite happened.

“Because it’s such an amazing format, because you can constantly revive it and re-imagine it, then as long as the people looking after it are passionate about it and the BBC is passionate about it, there’s absolutely no reason why it can’t do another 50 years,” Moffat said.

Series 9 of Doctor Who is expected to debut in the Fall and is currently filming in Cardiff, Wales. Game Of ThronesMaisie Williams was recently announced as a special guest star.

Game Of Thrones is set to meet Doctor Who as Maisie Williams will be a featured guest star in Doctor Who Series 9.

The BBC announced Williams, known for playing Arya Stark in HBO’s Game Of Thrones, will step foot in the TARDIS and has already begun filming.

“I’m so excited to be working on Doctor Who as it’s such a big and important part of British Culture,” Williams said on her first day of filming. “I can’t wait to meet the cast and crew and start filming, especially as we’ll be shooting not too far from my home town.”

“We’re thrilled to have Maisie Williams joining us on Doctor Who,” showrunner Steven Moffated added. “It’s not possible to say too much about who or what she’s playing, but she is going to challenge the Doctor in very unexpected ways. This time he might just be out of his depth, and we know Maisie is going to give him exactly the right sort of hell.”

Doctor Who returns this Fall.

Doctor Who’s Arthur Darvill Joins Arrow / Flash Spinoff

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19859:]]

Add one more to the cast of the untitled spinoff of Arrow and The Flash with Arthur Darvill.

Darvill, known for playing Rory Williams on Doctor Who, will stick to the time traveling genre as he is set to play none other than Rip Hunter.

Earlier today also saw casting news for Hawkgirl in the superhero team spinoff.

THR reports Arthur Darvill is in final negotiations to play a character called The Traveller, whom they learned is Rip Hunter (the character was previously named as part of three new DC heroes to be a part of the show).

Fans of the comics know Rip Hunter has a relationship with another DC time traveling hero – Booster Gold (it remains to be seen whether or not Booster Gold will be a part of the new spinoff).

The report also mentions WB is describing Rip Hunter in the spinoff as: a roguish time traveler who hides the strains of being responsible for history itself behind a facade of charm and wit.

Rip Hunter won’t be the first time travelling character as we know Tom Cavanagh is playing Professor Zoom, a character from the 25th century in the DC Comics.

Arthur Darvill also joins Brandon Routh as Atom, Victor Garber as one-half of Firestorm, Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold, Dominic Purcell as Heat Wave and Caity Lotz in an undisclosed role.

The Arrow / Flash spinoff looks to debut next mid-season.

Marvel recently announced the casting of David Tennant for the Netflix Jessica Jones series.

Tennant has been named to being playing the villain known as Kilgave.

While not exactly confirmed for Jessica Jones, Kilgrave in the comics is Zebediah Killgrave aka The Purple Man.

Radio Times caught up with Tennant and questioned the actor about Marvel and the character, where you can see in the following video that Tennant happens to be wearing a purple tie.

“I grew up on Marvel comics, so it’s very exciting to be part of their ever expanding entertainment empire,” Tennant said. “It’s great. I love the movies, I love the TV shows that they do, so I’m very pleased to be part of one.

“I grew up an absolute devotee to the worlds of Marvel,” Tennant continued. “So the fact that they’ve expanded now into TV and film is something that I think I sort of fantasized about when I was younger. So now to be part of it, to be on the other side of it is a thrill.

While it’s been said David Tennant will be playing a villain, the former Doctor Who remains coy.

“Who says it’s a villain?” Tennant questioned with a smile. “Make no assumptions. I’m saying nothing. I’ve found myself in another world which I can answer no questions about.”
