Superman: Legacy Synopsis Describes David Corenswet’s Man of Steel

James Gunn will be filming Superman: Legacy soon and thanks to a production listing a new description for the David Corenswet Man of Steel has been revealed.

Gunn is said to start filming the flick either at the start of March or mid-March.

According to the Film & Television Industry Alliance productionlist.com website, the “Project Summary” describes the movie as:

Superman, a cub reporter in Metropolis, embarks on a journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent.

“Shoot date” is listed as March 4, 2024, with the “Locations” listing Atlanta, Georgia.

“Cast & Crew” lists James Gunn as the director; Charles Roven as producer; Peter Safran as producer; James Gunn as writer; Henry Braham as cinematographer, and John Papsidera as the casting director.

Update: Gunn shoots down the synopsis but confirms filming (via Threads):

Not sure where this logline came from. I didn’t write it. It has elements of truth (obviously based on things I’ve said in the past). But I wouldn’t describe the plot this way, & I wouldn’t call Clark a cub reporter. He’s a thirty-year-old full-on reporter. But, yeah, we shoot in March. I’m grateful every day our production team worked their asses off to keep things going through the strikes. Forces impelled us to stop many times – & if we had we’d never make July 2025.

More descriptions

DC also describes Superman: Legacy as telling the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

Gunn recently addressed the movie on Threads and when asked by a fan how David Corenswet is doing responded, “I love that guy! Fully immersed.” Recent photos of the actor show he’s packed on some pounds for the role.

Gunn has also said the big reveal of the new suit isn’t coming soon, as Gunn said the new David Corenswet Superman: Legacy suit will “definitely not” be revealed to the world “until after we’re filming.”

James Gunn also previously described his version of Superman as a “big galoot.”

“He’s a big ol’ galoot. He’s a farmboy from Kansas who’s very idealistic. His greatest weakness is that he’ll never kill anybody,” Gunn said. “He doesn’t want to hurt a living soul. I like that sort of innate goodness about Superman; it’s his defining characteristic. He’s not ‘All-Star Superman,’ but again, I’m a huge fan of ‘All-Star Superman,’ and I’m very inspired by [that series].”

Superman: Legacy will be released on July 11, 2025.

David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent and Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan is playing Lois Lane. Isabela Merced is Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion is Green Lantern Guy Gardner, and Edi Gathegi is playing Mister Terrific. María Gabriela de Faría is playing The Engineer from The Authority described as a “villain,” with Anthony Carrigan cast as Metamorpho. Skyler Gisondo is Jimmy Olsen, and Sara Sampaio is Eve Teschmacher. Nicholas Hoult is Lex Luthor. Sean Gunn is playing Maxwell Lord in the DCU, though it’s not clear at this time if he will be in Superman: Legacy. It’s also rumored Supergirl will be in the film.
