James Gunn shoots down two Superman: Legacy casting rumors that claimed both Pom Klementieff and Miriam Shor are appearing in the movie set to kick off the DCU with the new Man of Steel.
Of course, Pom Klementieff played Mantis for Gunn in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, and Miriam Shor played Recorder Vim in Vol 3.
The rumors originated from THR and DanielRPK who also saw his Thor 5 rumors shot down recently by Gareth Edwards. Daniel RPK also said Pedro Pascal is playing Mr. Fantastic Reed Richards in Marvel’s Fantastic Four which has yet to be announced.
James Gunn shoots down rumors on threads
Regarding James Gunn, he shot down the Pom Klementieff and Miriam Shor rumors on Threads.
“Despite Pom being one of my favorite actors to work with, this is not true. Not only is Pom Klementieff not in the movie, but no one has ever even discussed her being in the movie, nor do I have any idea what role she would possibly play. I have no idea where this came from,” he said.
Gunn added, “Miriam isn’t presently cast either, but I’d love to find a place for her.”
The rumors offer Miriam Shor is playing the head of the CIA in Superman: Legacy. Rumors have also offered the film involved the Middle East, but Gunn shot those rumors down, too. There is speculation out there Gunn might have re-wrote Superman: Legacy to remove the Middle East plot due to current events.
Does Superman: Legacy have too many characters?
Gunn also recently addressed casting too many characters in the film following the news of casting his brother, Sean Gunn.
“None of these roles is cameos,” he said adding, “The whole point was it’s NOT a large film – I mean, not in terms of cast. It’s normal for single protagonist films to have other characters – much more unusual for them not to.”
Gunn continued and addressed characters appearing on screen for ten seconds to mark a checkbox: “I call that ‘Cameo Porn’ and it has been one of the worst elements of recent superhero films. If a character is in film, they have to have a reason to be there story-wise.”
Gunn added, “I don’t mind actual cameos – if it’s a glimpse or a moment, an Easter egg. What bothers me is when they mangle an elegant story by shoehorning characters in – they aren’t there because the story calls for it, but for some other reason.”
