DC Announces Kingdom of Zod Superman Crossover For August

DC has announced Kingdom of Zod, a new Superman crossover that brings the full Super-Family into a major battle against General Zod beginning this August.

The storyline will run across Supergirl, Action Comics, Superman Unlimited, and Superman before wrapping up in the Superman: Kingdom of Zod Special on September 30.

The crossover features writers Joshua Williamson, Sophie Campbell, Mark Waid, and Dan Slott, with art by Eddy Barrows, Joe Quinones, Montos, and Rachael Stott.

Kingdom of Zod begins in Supergirl

Kingdom of Zod starts August 12 in Supergirl #16.

The issue sees a mysterious military coup destabilize the Kryptonite Kingdom of El Caldero. Supergirl then puts together her own strike team, called the Super-Force, to infiltrate the occupied territory.

The team includes Superboy-Prime, Conner Kent, Tomorrow Man, Steel, and more.

Coming out of the Reign of the Superboys storyline, Kara and her Superboy crew discover the force behind the takeover is Kryptonian in origin.

That same day, Action Comics #1101 picks up with Superman crash-landing back into the present after the events of Action Comics #1100. DC is keeping those spoilers quiet for now, but Superman quickly gets pulled into the growing conflict.

General Zod returns with a global threat

DC says the crossover will reveal how General Dru-Zod has returned and what role he plays in the takeover.

The publisher is also teasing a major twist that sets the world ablaze with the power of Kryptonite.

The story continues August 19 in Superman Unlimited #16, where Zod reveals the true scope of his plan and unleashes a Kryptonite infection that spreads across the world.

The first month of Kingdom of Zod ends August 26 in Superman #41, with Superman, Supergirl, Superboy-Prime, and the Super-Family confronting Zod in a battle DC says will reshape the future of the House of El.

Superman Family crossover continues in September

Kingdom of Zod continues through September with chapters in:

  • Supergirl #17
  • Action Comics #1102
  • Superman Unlimited #17
  • Superman #42

The storyline then concludes in the one-shot Superman: Kingdom of Zod Special on September 30.

DC describes the crossover as a high-stakes battle that brings together the full Super-Family against one of Superman’s greatest villains.

The publisher also says the storyline features the return of the Man of Tomorrow at a time when the DC Universe needs him most.

Covers and variant artists announced

Guillem March will provide connecting main covers across all four Superman titles in August.

Variant covers will come from Noobovich, Stephanie Hans, Joe Quinones, Ariel Olivetti, Mike Choi, ACO, Taurin Clarke, Vincenzo Riccardi, and Christian Ward.

Mark Spears will also provide foil variant covers for all four titles.

General Zod takes aim at the House of El

Kingdom of Zod looks like DC’s next major Superman Family event, with Supergirl, Superman, Superboy-Prime, Conner Kent, Steel, and more all getting pulled into Zod’s latest war.

The Kryptonite Kingdom angle also gives the crossover a timely hook, with Zod’s plan tied directly to Kryptonite and a spreading global infection.

DC is clearly positioning this as a major chapter for the House of El coming out of its current All In era, with the crossover hitting right as Superman remains one of the publisher’s biggest priorities across comics, movies, and TV.
