Here’s a Supergirl box office signal that isn’t a projection or a tracking estimate; it’s a hard number the industry has already locked in.
And it’s not a great look.
Per box office tracker Exhibitor Relations (ERC), Supergirl is set to open in 3,600-plus theaters on June 26.
For comparison, Superman launched in 4,100-plus locations a year ago, meaning Kara’s movie is rolling out in roughly 500 fewer theaters than the film it spins out of.

Why Theater Count Matters
Unlike a tracking forecast, a theater count is a decision, not a guess.
It reflects how many screens studios and exhibitors are willing to commit to a title, a real-money vote of confidence placed before a single ticket is sold.
A wide tentpole release typically opens in 4,000-plus theaters; slipping under that line, and well below a predecessor, is the kind of thing that tends to track with more cautious expectations.
So a Supergirl opening around 3,600 screens, against Superman‘s 4,100-plus, reads as the industry pricing in a smaller debut.

More Signs Point The Same Way
Still, it’s hard to ignore the pattern.
The theater count joins softening tracking projections and bearish betting markets.
But specifically regarding that smaller theater count, Supergirl is going up against Toy Story 5’s second weekend, which could nab the #1 spot away from Superman’s cousin. And Toy Story 5 is already off to a super start.
The number that settles it arrives soon enough. Supergirl opens June 26. For more details on the upcoming DC Studios movie, check out our Supergirl guide.
