Donald Glover Thinks Star Wars Is Too Serious: Wants Lando Movie To Be Fun

If the Lando Calrissian Star Wars movie ever happens, Donald Glover says he wants it to be fun.

You’ve probably heard Lando has been canceled, but that was for the TV series. Glover previously said a ways back that it has been changed into a movie and that he and his brother are writing it.

While recently speaking with WSJ, Glover says he wants the Lando Calrissian movie to be fun amid all the seriousness of our times.

“I just want it to be fun,” Glover said when asked what one thing he wants to bring to Lando.

He continues, “As a Star Wars fan myself, I think it’s important that there needs to be fun being had. It’s very hard to have fun right now. It’s tough because there are very serious things happening and those are the only things that connect us, weirdly. So I get why things are serious, but part of the human experience, I believe, is we have a responsibility to have enjoyment. And I just feel like we’re lacking in that department.”

Glover also thinks Star Wars has become too serious as of late and wants Lando to change that.

Glover adds, “Star Wars, I love it, but sometimes it can be super serious. Sometimes it be, like, way too serious. Everything that has to do with the Skywalkers is like so serious. [With] Lando, I think the best part about him is he’s a scoundrel. And I feel like people can relate to that, and he’s probably like ‘man, this war is whack. I need money,’ which I feel everyone can relate to. I want to bring fun to Star Wars. I just want it to be fun.”

The Lando Calrissian movie doesn’t have a release date. Donald Clover starred as Lando in Solo: A Star Wars Story back in 2018.

Disney CEO Bob Iger has recently said Disney is pulling back on Star Wars, so it remains to be seen if the Lando movie will ever see the light of day.

Presently, Lucasfilm has the Jon Favreau The Mandalorian & Grogu movie in development for a May 22, 2026 release. Everything else is up in the air.
