New Star Wars Project Announced; Could Be Lando

A new Star Wars project is announced, which could possibly be for Lando Calrissian, as J.D. Dillard and Matt Owens are developing something for Disney and LucasFilm.

THR reports J.D. Dillard, best known for writing and directing the sci-fi thriller Sleight, and Matt Owens, a writer on Marvel TV shows Luke Cage and Agents of SHIELD, are developing the Star Wars project at Disney and LucasFilm but it is unclear if it’s a movie on the big screen or for Disney Plus.

According to the Lords of the Long Box, the project might be a Lando Calrissian movie and get announced March 11 with the launch of Disney Plus in Europe.

If it is Lando, we can guess it would feature Donald Glover reprising from Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Donald Glover may return for Lando Star Wars movie

I do have a hard time believing Disney would release another solo Star Wars flick in theaters after Solo failed so miserably at the box office, and featuring a character spinning off from it, so perhaps it’s a Lando series or movie for Disney Plus.

It is also known this new project is not the Kevin Feige Star Wars project.

Some sites are also reporting the new Star Wars project involves the murky underworld of Exegol, but that is not the case, as the writer at THR only used Exegol as a metaphor to compare the flick to the fact that nothing is known about the new project, but sites like Deadline and Variety basically stole THR’s scoop and went with it, erroneously reporting the Exegol bit as legit info.

Disney does have three Star Wars movies on its slate with Dec. 16, 2022, Dec. 2024 and Dec. 2026, but Disney CEO Bob Iger has recently confirmed for at least the second or third time that they are placing the movies on hiatus and are instead focusing on the Disney Plus side of things, which presently has The Mandalorian Season 2 coming out this October, with Obi-Wan and the Rogue One prequel currently both on hiatus as the scripts get fixed and reworked.

Rian Johnson is busy developing the Knives Out sequel, so if he ever does another Star Wars movie, it’s far, far away.
