Marvel fans, get ready! Spider-Man is set to make a grand return to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this year, soaring high above the streets of New York City on November 28, 2024.
After a decade-long absence, the iconic web-slinger will once again join the lineup of giant balloons, bringing Marvel’s favorite superhero back to one of the most celebrated holiday events in the world.
This year’s Spider-Man balloon is a special tribute to the legendary comic book artist John Romita Sr., whose work helped define the look and feel of Spider-Man for generations of fans. In collaboration with Marvel, the artisans at Macy’s Parade Studio meticulously designed the balloon to capture Romita’s iconic vision of the character.
Chris Fondacaro, Head of Marvel Franchise, expressed excitement about the collaboration, saying, “Ever since MARVEL COMICS #1 hit stands in 1939, Marvel’s home has always been New York. So when the opportunity to work with Macy’s came about to bring one of our most iconic characters back to one of the most emblematic events of New York City, we knew this was the perfect fit for Spidey and our brand’s legacy. Since his first appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15 in 1962, Spider-Man has become one of the most beloved and recognizable superheroes in history, spanning comic books, movies, TV, and more. The hero’s roots in New York make his appearance in the parade even more special, especially as fans celebrate Marvel’s 85-year comic book history.
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade producer, Jordan Dabby, added, “Fans will be delighted to see Spider-Man swinging back into the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome everyone’s favorite web-slinger to this year’s spectacular balloon lineup. Just like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Spider-Man is a true New York City icon, and I can’t wait for live spectators and viewers across the country to erupt in excitement as Spidey soars high above the streets of the Big Apple on Thanksgiving morning.”
Spider-Man’s journey with the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade began in 1981, followed by his first balloon debut in 1987. For over a decade, the friendly neighborhood hero was a favorite in the parade, and his return in 2009 delighted fans once again, with his last appearance in 2014.
