Get ready to sling into action as it is claimed that Andrew Garfield might be returning to the MCU as Spider-Man in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars movie.
The actor arguably stole the spotlight in the recent Spider-Man: No Way Home movie that also featured the MCU’s Tom Holland and Sam Raimi’s Tobey Maguire.
According to scoopers, the actor is making another triumphant MCU return.
Does Andrew Garfield want to return as Spider-Man?
Following the huge success of No Way Home, rumors were rampant that Andrew Garfield would be returning as Spider-Man in some form, but while Garfield said he was interested in a return, he said he is going to take a break from acting following his Under the Banner of Heaven FX TV miniseries.
“I’m going to rest for a little bit,” Garfield filled in Variety back in April of 2022. “I need to recalibrate and reconsider what I want to do next and who I want to be and just be a bit of a person for a while. Because as you know, that is a washing machine, that awards season… I need to just be a bit ordinary for a while.”
However, Garfield did change gears about Marvel in the No Way Home Art of the Movie book.
“The story never ends, whether we film it or not,” he said. “There’s a story happening in a universe somewhere. That’s endless potential with this character and all the different interactions. So, yeah, he’s definitely out there doing something.”
Good news according to scooper
The good news is that according to Twitter scooper CanWeGetToast, Andrew Garfield might be returning as Spider-Man in Avengers: Secret Wars.
If true, that would also mean Andrew Garfield could be returning as Spider-Man side by side with Hugh Jackman who is also rumored to be back in Secret Wars as Wolverine.
Similar to Jackman, the Twitter user claims that before the actor and writers strike, the head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, had a meeting with Andrew Garfield about Avengers: Secret Wars.
Assuming the rumor is true and since the strikes are happening, that means that Andrew Garfield probably hasn’t signed a deal as of yet for an MCU return, and it also means Marvel can’t continue to discuss the movie with the actor who turns 40 next week but once the strikes are over, the talks can resume.
Update: John Campea via Youtube is stating the rumor isn’t true; however another Twitter scooper is stating it is true, so take everything with a grain of salt.
Avengers: Secret Wars biggest MCU movie since Endgame
Avengers: Secret Wars is shaping up to be the biggest MCU movie since Endgame, where it’s thought the flick will feature actors and charcters from across the Multiverse.
In addition to the rumors about the return of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine for Avengers: Secret Wars, it is also suggested the X-Men from the Fox Marvel movies will have some sort of role.
In the Marvel Comics, Secret Wars is a major crossover event that brought together characters and elements from various Marvel universes into a single, sprawling narrative. So for the MCU, it’s thought it will be similar, but using all different versions of the movie characters.
Avengers: Secret Wars gets released on May 7, 2027.
