Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Greenlit For 2027

It’s learned that Paramount Pictures is moving forward with Sonic the Hedgehog 4 for a spring 2027 release date.

Word comes via Variety that the fourth movie is happening. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 also opens today with Thursday previews and officially on Friday.

Sonic 3’s opening box office looks to be around $55 million to $60 million, maybe higher, as Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King isn’t getting good reviews with only a 59% Rotten Tomatoes Score.

Update: Sonic the Hedgehog 4 gets released on March 19, 2027.

The first batch of reviews are in for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and the flick currently has an 86% Rotten Tomatoes Score, which is the best of the three movies by far. The Sonic movies are typically liked by fans a lot, as the fan scores are in the high 90s, so Sonic 3 should do very well.

The first two films have brought in over $700 million; with the release of Sonic 3, that should put the franchise over a billion.

Paramount is obviously aware of the success and greenlit Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Jeff Fowler directed all three so hopefully Fowler returns. Ben Schwartz also voices Sonic, and the films also star James Marsden. The big question is whether or not Jim Carrey will return. He actually said he was retiring from acting but returned for Sonic 3 and joked he needed the money. The third movie also stars Keanu Reeves as Shadow, Idris Elba as Knuckles, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails.
