SnyderVerse Return Just Got a Major Boost From China and The Saudis

The SnyderVerse return just got another major boost.

A new development in the Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery saga suggests the Saudi angle may be getting even stronger, while China’s Tencent is now also back in the mix.

Put it all together, and it looks like more good news for the SnyderVerse.

Tencent Returns To Paramount-WBD Deal As Saudi Influence Grows

Bloomberg reported Monday that Tencent Holdings intends to invest several hundred million dollars in Paramount Skydance’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery as a passive financial investor.

The move is notable because Tencent had previously stepped away from the deal amid scrutiny over foreign investment concerns. Now it’s back.

At the same time, Gerry Cardinale of RedBird Capital also left the door open to the possibility of Middle East investors potentially getting board seats in the combined company, despite the earlier understanding being that they would not get governance rights.

What it means for the SnyderVerse return

What stands out here is the Snyder connection: the Saudis and China both have a history of backing Zack Snyder.

We previously went over how Saudi-linked money was already tied to Paramount’s WBD push. Now that influence appears to be growing, while Tencent’s return adds another interesting layer because of Zack Snyder’s strong track record overseas, especially in China.

Tencent Pictures was among the company production credits on 2017’s Wonder Woman, which was based on a story by Zack Snyder and produced by Zack and Deborah Snyder.

Snyder’s DC films have always played big overseas

The box office history is already there. Snyder’s DC era performed far stronger internationally and in China than DC is seeing now.

Superman (2025) brought in $262.5 million internationally and $8.9 million in China.

Man of Steel earned $379.1 million internationally and $63.44 million in China, Batman v Superman brought in $544 million internationally and $95.77 million in China, and Justice League earned $432.3 million internationally and $106.05 million in China.

Tencent’s return stands out for that reason. It reinforces what the numbers have already shown for years: Zack Snyder’s DC films have real international value.

Why this looks good for the SnyderVerse

The Saudis were already said to be involved financially.

Now there is a public opening for the idea that their influence could grow beyond what was first presented. Tencent is back in as well.

And both Saudi money and Chinese interest line up with what the numbers have already shown for years: Zack Snyder’s DC films have real value internationally.
