Sony has released the first teaser trailer for Resident Evil, giving fans their first official look at Zach Cregger’s take on the franchise ahead of the movie’s September 18, 2026 theatrical release.
The teaser confirms the film stars Austin Abrams as Bryan, a medical courier caught in a night of chaos, with the movie also filmed for IMAX. Watch below.
Resident Evil trailer focuses on Austin Abrams and one horrifying night
The official synopsis says Resident Evil follows Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, as he unwittingly gets pulled into an action-packed fight for survival when one horrifying night spirals out of control around him.
The teaser keeps the focus on Abrams and the panic of trying to make it through the outbreak alive, which lines up with what was previously shown to CinemaCon attendees.

Zach Cregger brings Resident Evil back to horror
This version of Resident Evil comes from Zach Cregger, who has built momentum with Barbarian and Weapons.
Cregger has previously said his movie tells an original story set within the Resident Evil universe rather than directly adapting one of the games beat for beat, which appears to be what Sony is leaning into with the new teaser.
The screenplay is credited to Cregger and Shay Hatten. Producers include Robert Kulzer, Cregger, Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, Carter Swan, and Asad Qizilbash, while the cast also includes Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser.
Resident Evil is getting another reboot
Resident Evil has had a long history on screen.
The franchise started as Capcom’s 1996 PlayStation horror game and later became a major film series thanks to Paul W. S. Anderson’s Milla Jovovich movies, which grossed more than $1 billion worldwide.
Resident Evil release date
Resident Evil will be released in theaters on September 18, 2026.
