Sophie Turner Hints Her Tomb Raider Will Be Around For Years

Sophie Turner is hinting that Amazon’s Tomb Raider series may be sticking around for years.

In a new interview with The Telegraph, Turner opened up about taking on the role of Lara Croft and suggested the project isn’t a one-and-done adventure.

“Right now, my focus is Tomb Raider,” Turner said. “It has been for quite a while and will be for a while to come.”

The comment hints that Amazon has long-term plans for the franchise.

Sophie Turner Embraces A Long-Term Lara Croft Role

Turner explained that television is where she feels most comfortable, pointing to her years playing Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones.

“I feel good doing it,” she said. “I was birthed by Game of Thrones: TV is my bread and butter, and I love developing a character over years. If I hadn’t had Game of Thrones, this would be overwhelming, but it’s a joy.”

The remarks come as Amazon continues production on the live-action adaptation, which recently released its first official look at Turner as Lara Croft.

Production Back On Track

Turner’s comments also suggest her recent on-set injury isn’t expected to have any lasting impact on the production.

Amazon temporarily paused filming after Turner suffered what the studio described as a minor injury. The actress appears to be doing fine and remains focused on the series moving forward.

More recently, set photos surfaced showing Turner in action as Lara Croft, sporting a tactical outfit while filming combat sequences in outdoor ruins and forest locations.

Tomb Raider Cast And Release Date

Sophie Turner leads the series as Lara Croft alongside Sigourney Weaver as Evelyn Wallis and Jason Isaacs as Atlas DeMornay.

The cast also includes Martin Bobb-Semple as Zip, Bill Paterson as Winston, Jack Bannon as Gerry, John Heffernan as David, Celia Imrie as Francine, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, and August Wittgenstein.

Tomb Raider is created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who serves as writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner alongside Chad Hodge. Jonathan Van Tulleken directs and executive produces.

Amazon has not officially announced a release date, but based on Turner’s comments and the current production schedule, the series is expected to premiere on Prime Video later this year.

Jem isn’t the only legacy property Amazon MGM is betting on, Sophie Turner recently hinted at the long-term ambitions behind another major IP revival at Amazon MGM.
