New Tomb Raider Set Photos Reveal Sophie Turner’s Tactical Lara Croft

New set photos from Amazon’s Tomb Raider series offer another look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft, this time showing the character in action and wearing a much more covered-up outfit than the first official image.

The new images show Turner filming what looks like a combat-heavy sequence in a rainy outdoor setting, armed with dual pistols and moving through stone ruins and wooded terrain. The shots also make it clear Amazon’s version of Lara is going with a more tactical look, featuring long sleeves, body armor, gloves, boots, and full leg gear instead of the more classic revealing outfit longtime fans associate with the character.

Sophie Turner’s Lara Croft Goes Tactical

While the first official image released by Amazon leaned into some of Lara Croft’s familiar video game iconography, these new set photos show a very different side of the character.

Turner is seen fully covered in a rugged combat outfit built more for action and survival than for fan service. The costume includes a padded vest, tactical holsters, high boots, gloves, and fitted pants with strapped gear across the legs, suggesting the series is aiming for a more grounded and practical approach.

The set photos also show Lara in the middle of a firefight, using both pistols, taking cover behind a tree, and moving through what appears to be a dangerous ruins setting.

New Photos Show More Of The Action

The biggest takeaway from the new images is that the show looks to be leaning hard into action.

Sophie Turner is shown aiming both guns, firing, and reacting during what appears to be an intense chase or shootout sequence. The environment looks wet, muddy, and rough, which fits the survival-adventure tone Tomb Raider fans would expect.

That should at least ease concerns that the series might focus more on prestige drama than adventure. Based on these photos, Lara Croft is definitely getting thrown into the action.

Amazon’s Tomb Raider Series Is Now Filming

Amazon recently confirmed production is underway on the new Tomb Raider series and released the first official look at Turner as Lara Croft to mark the start of filming.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge serves as creator, writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner alongside Chad Hodge, with Jonathan Van Tulleken directing and executive producing.

The cast also includes Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein.

Fans Will Likely Have Plenty To Say

The fully covered look will probably get people talking, especially since Lara Croft has long been one of gaming’s most recognizable characters partly because of her iconic design.

At the same time, the new photos do show Amazon sticking with core elements like the dual pistols, holsters, ponytail, and action-heavy setup. So while the outfit has clearly been modernized, the series still seems to be trying to keep Lara recognizable.

Whether fans embrace the new look will likely come down to how well the series delivers on the adventure, action, and attitude that made Tomb Raider popular in the first place.
