Jeremy Renner Talks Captain America Civil War & Marvel Future (Video)

Jeremy Renner is starring in the latest Mission Impossible movie, which hits this week. Screen Rant caught up with the Hawkeye actor to chat about Captain America: Civil War as well as his future with Marvel.

Worth pointing out is that Renner says he thinks Marvel is not big into replacing actors in roles, but would rather introduce new characters.

Here’s the text:

Yeah, yeah. [Captain America: Civil War is] more active. A lot of fun stuff happening in that one. I can’t speak too much for it. They’re still filming that sucker right now. But yeah, there’s a lot of stuff happening in that one physically for me anyway. Then who knows in the future? I don’t know what’s going to happen.

On his future with Marvel:

It’s always great to know that you are going have a job next year or something. That’s a fantastic blessing for any actor. It’s nice to be able to continue things and characters that you’ve kind of grown with. But it’s always great to have new faces come in. They’re not big on replacing people and characters so much, which I think is smart, because there’s so many different characters. I think there’s going to be a lot of new faces coming up in that world. I’m happy just to be a part of that big universe.

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Synopsis:

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Sebastian Stan Talks Captain America: Civil War & Ant-Man Post-Credit Scene

The Ant-Man post-credit scene (watch above) featured none other than a clip from Captain America: Civil War, the next Marvel movie.

The scene features Captain America and Falcon as they come upon the Winter Soldier, who has his metal arm (speculated to be vibranium) in a vise.

Buzz Feed caught up with Sebastian Stan who offered there is more than meets the eye to the scene:

I think [what Bucky was caught in was] more of a vise. But it would never happen at his own hand, by his own doing.

In terms of that scene in Ant-Man, I’ve seen some of the ideas people have about it and I would just say that whatever you’re seeing on the surface, it’s not as obvious as that.

There might be a whole lot more to the scene. I would say someone would probably want to put him in a vise.

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Stan Lee Supports Michael B. Jordan: Defends Fans’ Complaints

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21483:]]

While Stan Lee doesn’t want Spider-Man to change any time soon, the 92-year-old Marvel creator says he is okay with Michael B. Jordan playing Human Torch in the Fantastic Four movie, and Stan Lee even defends fans who have complained about it.

“It was more than okay,” Lee told EW.com about Jordan cast as Johnny Storm. “I thought it was a great idea!”

Michael B. Jordan weighed in as well noting Stan Lee sent Fantastic Four director Josh Trank an e-mail about it.

“[If] Stan Lee writes an email to my director saying, ‘You’re good. I’m okay with this,’ who am I to go against that?” Jordan questioned.

While true, there have been many complaints online about the casting (actually, not just about the casting, but a lot of other things such as the Thing not having any pants), Stan Lee offers it’s not about being racist, but about the fact that the Human Torch has changed.

“They’re outraged not because of any personal prejudice,” Lee offered. “They’re outraged because they hate to see any change made on a series and characters they had gotten familiar with. In Spider-Man, when they got a new actor, that bothered them, even though it was a white actor. I don’t think it had to do with racial prejudice as much as they don’t like things changed. But I think they’re gonna get to love this character. So I’m not the least bit worried about it. I always tried to pepper these groups with as much racial diversity as possible because that’s the way the world is.”

“Fantastic Four” has an August 7, 2015 release directed by Josh Trank from a screenplay by Jeremy Slater, Simon Kinberg and Josh Trank; produced by Matthew Vaughn, Simon Kinberg, Hutch Parker, Robert Kulzar and Gregory Goodman; starring: Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Toby Kebbell.

Synopsis:

FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

Find Out How Thomas The Train Appeared In Ant-Man

Thomas The Train Ant-Man Clip

Wondering how Marvel got Thomas the Train in the Ant-Man movie?

Director Peyton Reed explains original writer and director Edgar Wright had the scene featuring a train in earlier versions of the script. Reed revealed when he came on board Ant-Man, it had been changed to Thomas the Train, explaining the situation with Film School Rejects:

“I believe in Edgar [Wright] and Joe Cornish’s original drafts it was a train set. At some point in the process that predated my involvement it became Thomas. As I came on, they had not secured the rights to Thomas. We had to do this whole thing where we did this presentation for the people who own the rights to Thomas. Thank God they agreed and found it funny, but there were definite stipulations. For example, nobody could be tied to the tracks and run over by Thomas. Thomas couldn’t be doing anything that could be perceived by children as evil Thomas. Thomas had to stay neutral in the battle, which was always our intention. Like anybody, they’re protective of their brand. I didn’t know what we were going to do if we didn’t get the rights to that. There are certain things I was going to be devastated about if we couldn’t have them. Thomas was one, because… you could do any kind of toy train, but the personality of that thing and the eyes moving back and forth give it a whole vibe and took it to another level.”

Not only does Thomas appear in a Marvel movie, but DC recently release an animated Justice League Thomas and Friends mash-up.

“Ant-Man” is currently in theaters.

Ant-Man Tops Box Office Followed By Pixels

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21477:]]

For the second week in a row, Ant-Man has topped the box office domestically, just narrowly beating out the new Adam Sandler movie Pixels.

Ant-Man nabbed $24.8 million to Pixels $24 million.

Ant-Man has now surpassed the $100 million mark in the U.S. ($106m) and stands at a worldwide cume of $226.4 million.

While Sandler and Pixels have been getting berated online, I actually loved the movie and thought it was really entertaining and fun (wasn’t expecting an Oscar-award winning film here, folks!), as did my two kids and their friend.

Thursday night saw the shooting in the Lafayette, Louisiana theater, but the tradgedy doesn’t appear to have affected movie goers as sales were actually up slightly this year compared to the same time last year (+2.4%).

Minions came in third for the week, followed by TrainwreckPaper Towns and Southpaw.

Worth a note is that Jurassic World passed The Avengers: Age Of Ultron domestically hauling in $623.8 million (so far) to The Avengers 2‘s $623.4 million.

Things should pick up a bit next week with the release of Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.

Spider-Man, Hulk & Ultron Teased For Captain America: Civil War

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21476:]]

In conjunction with the Ant-Man movie, Marvel launched a marketing campaign featuring WHiH News (yeah, it’s fake).

Various YouTube videos were posted including an exclusive interview with Scott Lang, Darren Cross and reports associated with the movie.

As the videos progressed, much like any other real news telecast, a ticker showcased other “news” worthy items, which turns out are teases for what went down in Avengers 2 and also for Captain America: Civil War.

Worth a note is that mention is made of the Hulk post-Avengers 2; that the Ultron tech has survived; that the ticker also appears to be teasing Spider-Man with mention made that Stark Industries gave out scholarships to urban schools (Peter Parker?) and about an unclaimed lotto ticket (which happened with Spidey in the comics).

A user on Reddit went ahead and put the tickers together. Check them out:

• … has resurfaced in eastern europe remain unconfirmed after many thought the organization to be dissolved

• California braces for record drought

• Renowned astrophysicist Jane Foster to Lecture on her experiences with interspace and dimensional travel

• Rogue Hydra Agent Wolfgang Von Strucker confirmed, dead, his body was found in its cell after a supposed raid on an eastern detention facility

• Earthquake rocks South Africa.

• Steve Rogers to attend updated museum exhibit dedicated to his heroic efforts in WWII

• California continues efforts to address issues from record drought

• Stark Industries announces new scholarships for promising students from urban city schools

• Multiple countries recovering from catastrophic damage caused by sentient robot Ultron

• Leaders asking for aid, and for the avengers to be held accountable

• Senate hearings expected to continue into next week regarding relief efforts

• Tony Stark says that public concerns about Dr. Bruce Banner are “Baseless” and “Irresponsible” after the South Africa incident involving the hulk

• Pym technologies CEO Darren Cross says “Astonishing” new venture coming this week

• Winning lottery ticket of $675 million still unclaimed

• Biography “The life and times of industrialist Howard Stark” to be published later this year

Vacation Writers Confirm Spider-Man; Are Thrilled

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21474:]]

Last week saw mention that the writers of the Vacation remake will be penning the script for the new Spider-Man.

Now John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein have confirmed the news.

“We can finally acknowledge that,” Daley told npr.org. “This is the first time that we can say that we are writing it.”

“We’ve been saying no comment for the last week,” Goldestein added. “We’re thrilled.”

“He’s a sharp kid and witty and kind of deals with the fact that he’s an outcast and a geek through humor,” Daley offered about Spider-Man. “It is sort of the safety net for geeks like us, so I think we can totally relate to where he’s coming from. As well as the superpowers, which we also have.”

The Spider-Man reboot is set for a July 28, 2017 release starring Tom Holland, with Kevin Feige on as producer along with Sony’s Amy Pascal. It’s speculated Spider-Man will also appear in Captain America: Civil War out next May. Marisa Tomei is in talks for Aunt May.

Rachel McAdams Confirms Talks For Doctor Strange

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21471:]]

True Detective‘s Rachel McAdams confirms she is up for the female lead in the Doctor Strange movie.

McAdams, however, tells the LA Times she is unsure if she’ll get the part.

She is considering playing the female lead in Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” which is set to star Benedict Cumberbatch, though she is careful to note, “it’s still super-early days, and I don’t know where that’s gonna go, if it’s gonna go anywhere at all.” But she’s not a “comic book snob.” (Or a reality TV snob, for that matter: She says she’s been watching this season of “The Bachelorette.”)

It’s unknown what role McAdams may be up for, but a possibility is Clea, Doctor Strange’s lover and disciple.

Doctor Strange begins filming in the Fall so casting announcements should be coming soon enough; probably at next month’s Disney D23 Expo.

“Doctor Strange” has a November 4, 2016 release directed by Scott Derrickson starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange and Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One.

Ant-Man Movie Review

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21468:]]

Better Safe than Sorry

A Film Review of Ant-Man

In Kevin Feige, we trust.  This is the message I continue to carry forward throughout the ever expanding MCU and once again true believers, we have another solid building block as we march towards Infinity and beyond.  That’s not to say this result was a foregone conclusion.  I believe fans had similar concerns for another seemingly left of center Marvel license known as the Guardians of the Galaxy.  First of all, this film is about Scott Lang/Hank Pym/Ant-Man and this character(s) is completely off the radar for casual fans of comics and pop culture.  Second, the lead is Paul Rudd: goofball comedy veteran actor and not an action star.  Third, Adam McKay (goofball comedy writer) worked in tandem with Rudd to create the screenplay.  Fourth, there’s Michael Douglass (screen legend) and you simply don’t know what you’re going to get from any actor in the twilight of their career no matter what the project is.  Regardless of these or any other potential distraction or deterrent to a quality entertainment experience, you can indeed rest easy.  The end result is a composed effort to yield another capable Avenger who has his own style and skill set to contribute to stories moving forward.

However, the effort put into keeping an Avenger film on task and not run off the rails on a crazy laugh train (a la, everything McKay has ever written) was very obvious at several moments during the film.  How many more times did I need to be reminded that Scott was a family man?  How often did Scott himself have to play the straight man to his own motley crew?  How many cute bonding moments with insects needed to be shoehorned in?  All of these were conscious plot devices that kept the Ant-Man from the brink of The Other Guys.  As it turns out, they were necessary (and far too overt) “evils” to take as little risk as possible with the most obscure Avenger to date.  Ant-Man is a hero, he has worthy moral ground to stand on, he has skill and he’s light hearted with a shade of sarcasm.  Do any of these traits sound familiar to you?  Perhaps it would have been better to allow Rudd to channel full blown Brian Fontana into Scott Lang because at least his obtuse, 70s, narcissism would have been hilarious to see next to Tony Stark in the future to see who wins the “inappropriateness wars.”  Instead, the audience must rally behind a safe, bland, vanilla character type with precious little personality of his own to speak of.  Individual Avenger adventures are as large as their respective protagonists’ personalities as well as their unique skills.  I simply wished Ant-Man’s larval voyage left a larger footprint in the spectacular happenings of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

A full breakdown of the following Moving Picture Story Rating (MPS) “alpha build” can be found here.

 Action Style

All Avenger films contain some form of combat and Ant-  Man features plenty of pugilism and gunplay which are as bland  as Scott Lang’s training montage.

3/6

 Action Frame

Even if the fists and bullets aren’t flying around like ballet  choreography, movement within the frame (specifically all of  the miniaturization sequences) is really fun to look at; insects  and all.

5/5

 Lead  Performance

Paul Rudd does an acceptable job while Michael Douglas blew  me away with how genuinely interested he showed he was in  his role and its place in the MCU.  At some point, Ant-Man will  have to be “just” Scott Lang without the Hank Pym training  wheels.

4/6

 Supporting  Performance

Evangeline Lilly provides a decent love interest, Corey Stoll  plays another 2-dimensional Marvel villain, Michael Pena plays  a dumb stereotype and who hired T.I. for this movie?

1/5

 Music

All films can certainly use emotionally heavy orchestration to  make those epic moments on screen ascend to the next level.    That wasn’t the case at all in this film.

2/6

 Sound F/X

Hearing a tiny world come alive is just as important as seeing it  come alive.

5/5

“Moving” = 20/33

 Digital F/X

Getting a glimpse of the land of Avengers from an entirely  different scale presented an excellent collision of “regular” and  “tiny,” without too much cheesiness from the likes of Honey, I  Shrunk the Kids.  Insects working together with Ant-Man were  also well animated.

6/6

 Special F/X

Explosions?  Check.  Gunfire?  Check.  They’re simply nowhere  near the scope of any previous Avenger film (Even Iron Man 3)

2/5

 Costumes

Not much can be said of all the regular suits in this film, but I  was much more impressed by the design of the “Yellowjacket”  over the retro feel of the “Ant-Man” suit.  Expect a redesign for  future films.

4/6

 Hair &  Makeup

I was a bit distracted by Evangeline Lilly’s Jim Carey “bowl cut”  wig.  Why didn’t they let Kate from Lost simply grow it out?    Everyone else was acceptable.

3/5

 Exteriors

Regular scale settings were about as average as Hollywood can  get, but at the subatomic level, “insides” and “outsides” (as  assisted by heavy CG) has no meaning.  There wasn’t too much  interesting to see beyond the walls of abstract green screens.

3/6

 Interiors

I was more impressed with the tech look of the research labs  (thank you Iron Man films) especially when compared to the  antique nature of Pym’s personal domicile.

4/5

“Picture” = 22/33

 Hook

Who doesn’t love a tiny world perspective on things?  This  happens to be Marvel’s version of it and new angles on an ever  saturating genre are always welcome.

4/4

 Conflict

Hank Pym can’t be the Ant-Man anymore due to obvious  reasons, but I wasn’t sold on Scott’s need to take up this fight  himself, despite personal desperation being a clear and present  motivator.

2/4

 Resolution

I love all the connections made to the MCU, I appreciate the  obvious lead-in to Civil War, but I was a bit underwhelmed by  the cookie-cutter wrap up for Ant-Man himself.

3/4

 Dialogue

Conversations in general seem natural enough, but every time  Rudd speaks, he seems far too casual for a character that’s in  the position he’s in.  Douglas delivers more demonstrative lines  in a more demonstrative manner.  Ugh!  I cringe at anything  Scott’s crew says.

2/6

Exposition

The very first scene in this film gives the audience exactly what  it needs to understand everything about Ant-Man and how he  fits into this dynamic universe.  No need to be cryptic, yet.

4/5

 Character  uniqueness

Hank Pym is my kind of scientist.  Everyone else was my kind  of been there; done that.

1/6

 Character  relatability

Sacrificing and doing whatever it takes for one’s family is a  strong theme repeated amongst our heroes throughout this  film.  Can it be any easier to understand this?

5/5

“Story” = 17/34

Overall MPS Rating:  59/100

I was a bit surprised at this score as I enjoyed Ant-Man overall as a fairly entertaining popcorn, action and effects spectacle.  In hindsight, I liked this film more for its connections to the growing cinematic universe of Marvel’s superheroes.  I liked it less for its disinterest in really committing to standing on its own.

Cosmic Book News Movie Rating System

The Moving Picture Story Rating

The MPS Rating is a cumulative point system whereby several specific elements of a film are scored to produce an overall grade that directly stands upon its designated strengths and weaknesses.  Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic are well known and referenced when comparing media by way of their own number systems.  Unfortunately, without transparency that reveals where these “scores” could possibly be derived, any number is arbitrary and ultimately has no comparative value.  Criticism is subjective in its nature, but by fragmenting general observations into bullet point breakdowns, the reader can rely less on a leap of faith.  An accumulation of specific valuations presents a series of more meaningful reflections that are still determined by the reviewer, but minimizes the impact of said reviewer’s expectations and preferences on the final score.

The philosophy behind this rating system revolves around equality and recognition for as many fundamental aspects of contemporary, narrative filmmaking as possible without turning every review into a dissertation.  Mega-budget Hollywood productions may have a number of advantages over smaller indie films, but the MPS Rating is strictly interested in what is shown on the screen, what works for the film and what doesn’t.  There is no perfect system because there is no perfectly balanced method to weigh the impact of costume design vs. computer graphic fabrication, for example.  The key here is recognizing as much of the observable product as possible which unfortunately leaves other important parts of filmmaking like directing and producing outside of the MPS.

The final MPS Rating is a score out of 100 points and broken down into 3 major subsets:

“Moving” = 33 points                        “Picture” = 33 points             “Story” = 34 points

The “Story” subset gets one additional point because every narrative film’s most basic concept before it enters any day of principal photography is the script.  There is no film without a story or some concept organized into words that are written/typed on the page/screen.

Each subset is broken down further into 3 smaller categories:

 “Moving”

–  Action (11 points)

–  Performance (11 points)

–  Audio (11 points)

“Picture”

–  Visual Effects (11 points)

–  Cast presentation (11 points)

–  Setting (11 points)

“Story”

–  Plot (12 points)

–  Conversation (11 points)

–  Character (11 points)

From there, 1 additional layer of fragmentation occurs in each category dividing them as evenly as possible while favoring some above others.

——————————————————————————————————

[Within the Moving Subset]

Action:

“Action Style” or any featured special training movement the cast engages in such as martial arts, dance, parkour or gymnastics.  (6 points)

“Action Frame” or any common movement within the frame by the cast (walking, running) in addition to moving the frame itself via tracks, pans, tilts and more.  (5 points)

Performance:

“Lead Performance” or the effort put forth by the featured protagonists and/or antagonists of the film.  (6 points)

“Supporting Performance” or the effort put forth by the supporting cast like sidekicks, love interests, mentors and villains.  (5 points)

Audio:

“Music” or the implementation of any orchestral score or proprietary tracks to enhance the emotive moments of the film.  (6 points)

Sound F/X” or the creation and application of any Foley recording (analog or digital) further enhancing the realism of anything fabricated from settings to props.  (5 points)

——————————————————————————————————

[Within the Picture Subset]

Visual Effects:

“Digital F/X” or the use of computer graphics to create and interact with fabricated locations, characters, and anything else represented visually that simply cannot exist in real life.  (6 points)

“Special F/X” or the use of more practical visual spectacles such as pyrotechnics, gunfire, artillery, vehicles.  (5 points)

Cast presentation:

“Costumes” are self explanatory.  Does the cast look like the characters they are attempting to portray for the screen?  (6 points)

“Hair & Makeup” is more than making beautiful people look even better for their close-ups.  As time, circumstances and other situations occur to affect the cast during the story; is it well reflected on their bodies outside of their performance?  (5 points)

Setting:

“Exteriors” or any scene featuring an outdoor or outer space environment.  Note: this physical space does not have to be captured in the natural world, but will still be evaluated for its detail which will enhance or detract from the realism of the moment.  (6 points)

“Interiors” or any scene featuring an indoor environment.  The above special note also applies to interior set design.  (5 points)

—————————————————————————————————–

[Within the Story subset]

Plot:

“Hook” or the inciting incident/gimmick/idea that lies at the core of the film’s story.  (4 points)

“Conflict” or any adversary the protagonists are challenged by.  How interesting is it; circumstantial or otherwise?  (4 points)

“Resolution” or how the story wraps up.  Is it surprising?  Is it satisfying?  (4 points)

Conversation:

“Dialogue” or how every character verbally interacts with each other.  It doesn’t need to come off naturally, but any stylized choices need to work for the story.  (6 points)

“Exposition” or any information regarding this fictional world like the rules for how things work as well as understanding what is at stake and the risks involved to the main characters.  This can be expressed via pockets of dialogue, narration or onscreen titles.  (5 points)

Character:

“Uniqueness” or how dynamic the featured and supporting characters are in general.  Are they intriguing everymen?  Are they mysterious anti-heroes?  Are they bland?  (6 points)

“Relatability” or how well do characters make connections with the audience.  Do we sympathize with them thanks to personal experience?  Are we completely put off by their off-center code of conduct?  Is there any part of them that we can appreciate?  (5 points)

——————————————————————————————————

All of these elements combine to form a completed film.  How well they stack up with each other determines how strong the final product is.  I reiterate that even with 19 different sections to draw points from, it remains an opinion-based evaluation.  My intention is to be as brief and as thorough as possible.  Hopefully, I can communicate a more tangible sense of value to the reader so that he or she can determine worth for buying into a general admission, rental or on-demand viewing.

Tilda Swinton Might Be Playing The Ancient One As A Male

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21459:]]

Tilda Swinton has been cast as the Ancient One in Marvel’s Doctor Strange movie.

In the comics, the Ancient One is a male Tibetan monk, so when news of the casting became known, some fans complained.

It turns out, however, that Tilda Swinton might actually be playing the Ancient One as a male.

In an interview with the Guardian, it’s noted Swinton is unsure if she will play the part of the Ancient One as a man or a woman.

Swinton has actually previously played male roles, so at least for her, this wouldn’t be something out of the ordinary.

It’s possible Marvel could be going for more of an androgynous version of the Ancient One, sort of like how Swinton played the archangel Gabriel in Constantine.

Doctor Strange hits November 4, 2016 directed by Scott Derrickson starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange.

Charlie Hunnam Confirms Pacific Rim 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21458:]]

It definitely sounds like Charlie Hunnam will be back for Pacific Rim 2, which starts filming this Fall for its August 4, 2017 release.

EW.com caught up with Hunnam on the set of his latest movie, Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur movie Knights Of The RoundTable, where Hunnam spoke about some of the problems with the first movie and offered he hopes “we” fix them with the second, with the article also noting “Hunnam is excited to take another crack at [Pacific Rim].”

“I hope that we are able to remedy that a little bit going into the second,” he said. “Not to say I wasn’t proud of the film. I really liked it, and I felt like it delivered exactly what it was supposed to. But I do feel like we could have maybe plumbed the depths of the character and the storytelling a little bit more.”

Regarding Hunnam’s concerns, he mentioned it was difficult to find a balance between developing the character of the Jaeger pilots with the attention the mechs and kaiju received.

“I think world creation and monster creation and all of that stuff is exciting as a secondary element of storytelling. When it becomes more important than storytelling, I get very nervous, and you sort of lose me a little bit,” Hunnam said. “Although we tried very hard on Pacific Rim to marry those two elements, I do feel like ultimately it got weighed heavier on the side of spectacle than storytelling.”

Guillermo del Toro will be returning for Pacific Rim 2 as well and previously offered the sequel takes place a few years after the first one.

“It’s not an immediate follow-up,” Del Toro said. “It is the world having been freed of Kaiju, what happens to the world after – what happens to the Jaeger technology once the Kaiju are not a threat. It’s quite a jump.”

Pixels Post-Credit Scene Was Cut

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21457:]]

I just got back from watching Pixels and loved the movie. If you are any kind of video game fan – young or old – you should find Pixels to be a barrel of laughs and tons of fun. There are lots of references to classic games as well as the 1980s, which old school gamers should find appealing, and the younger generation should find laughable, but interesting.

I expected a post-credit scene for Pixels setting up a possible sequel, but alas there was no “to be continued.” It turns out there was a post-credit scene originally planned for the film, but it was cut.

The Pixels post-credit scene was to feature none other than Super Mario. Bros.; however, director Chris Colombus told Screen Crush they decided against it (slight spoilers follow).

We tried it. There was a moment we even did a previs of it, we thought it was interesting but we wanted to kind of use him somewhere else. I don’t want to spoil the fact that he maybe somewhere else in the film but … that ironically is a bigger moment for the audience than the ending with Mario.

I do have to say afte watching the movie, I much would have rather had Super Mario as the post-credit scene. There was really not much of a reaction when Mario was shown other than ‘oh, there’s Mario.’ I think the post-credit scene featuring Mario would have been a lot more special.

Mario actually made it into the Pixels script as the post-credit scene, which was (via SlashFilm):

PAN UP AND SPIN AROUND, so we face the Washington Monument, damaged but still standing. When we reach the top, we see a small figure on top, hands on hips, watching all this from high above.

Mario.

We zoom in on his face, and he smiles. CUT TO BLACK

“Pixels” is currently in theaters starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad, Brian Cox, Sean Bean, Jane Krakowski, Matt Lintz and Dan Aykroyd.

Tyrese Confirms Talks For Green Lantern Corps (Video)

Tyrese Gibson has been teasing Green Lantern on Instagram with fan art as well as stating he has taken the oath.

Collider caught up with the actor where Tyrese confirms there have been talks with Warner Bros. about the newly announced Green Lantern Corps movie.

Here’s the text:

Well I was innocent from the beginning. I was at home eating a bowl of Lucky Charms in my drawers, my ugly feet was out, and I got about six direct messages on Instagram with photos of me as the Green Lantern. This particular fan who did this fan art said that there was a community of people that had been talking for like a month and a half about who they think would be the best Green Lantern, and they all picked me. I said to them, ‘I took the oath, and I am going to commit myself to this process of seeing what’s possible.

I’ve already had a couple of meetings at Warner Bros., so we’ll see what happens. I do believe that there needs to be more black superheroes out there, but that’s not even my motivation. I think I would be the best Green Lantern, and based on my fans and supporters that spent around $6 billion in box office receipts, I feel like there’s a fanbase of fans out there waiting to see me put on this green suit and do my thing. So I would love to confirm something today but I can’t. We’ll just keep following up.
