Now Kevin Feige Blamed For Avengers 2 Failure

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21972:]]

Shots are now fired from both sides and a true Civil War has erupted within Marvel.

Earlier saw news of the split between Marvel Studios and Marvel CEO billionaire extraordinaire and the Marvel Comics Creative Committee.

Kevin Feige has taken the movie branch under his wing, and left Marvel TV and publishing (Comics) under Perlmutter.

Many reports have been hitting the net from a variety of sites lying blame with Perlmutter and the MCC, which consists of Joe Quesda, Brian Bendis, Alan Fine and Dan Buckley.

A couple of the reports suggested Feige had enough with Perlmutter’s frugality and the MCC’s slow process, with it mentioned both the “failure” of Avengers: Age Of Ultron and creative development on Captain America: Civil War were to blame and reasons used by Feige to leverage Marvel Studios away from Perlmutter.

Regarding The Avengers 2, the same site that first reported on Feige using the failure of Avengers 2 as leverage, is now stating sources close to Marvel have filled them in the blame actually lies with Feige.

According to Bleeding Cool, they heard rumors a while back that the “extensive and expensive re-shoots on the movie could have been avoided if Feige had been receptive to notes” — with the notes of course coming from Perlmutter’s Marvel Creative Committee.

The report goes on to suggest Feige’s people have been using various sites to finger-point, i.e. provide spin, that makes it look as if Feige is in the right and Perlmutter is in the wrong.

It’s also suggested Feige surrounds himself by “yes-men” as a former employee in Marvel’s film division is said to have offered: “if you want a target on your back, just say no to Kevin.”

Chris Evans Confirms Avengers 3 & 4; Wants To Extend Marvel Contract (Video)

With Ike Perlmutter out of the way, it’s possible the original cast of the Avengers could be on board with Marvel Studios for the long haul.

The Collider caught up with Chris Evans in the above video, with Evans confirming he has only two movies left on his Marvel contract, which are The Avengers Infinity Part 1 and Part 2 movies.

Evans has said at various times he might want to be done with acting and just focus on directing, but at the same time has stated he may want to stick with Marvel. Now Evans says “if Marvel wants me, they got me.”

“I’ve never had such a relationship where… I mean look at my resume. I’m used to being on set being ‘is this movie going to be terrible?’ [laughs] It’s Marvel… They can’t stop making great movies. They just do it in their sleep. It’s wonderful directors and producers, and actors and scripts, and it’s like a playground as an actor. It’s so mind boggling that I was tentative in the beginning to jump on board. What an asshole I would be if I hadn’t done this. I mean, can you imagine? I’m kicking myself. I would never forgive myself… I mean it’s just the best.”

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Synopsis:

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Watch a new international trailer above for the new Rocky movie, Creed, starring Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan.

Creed has a November 25, 2015 release.

Synopsis:

From Warner Bros. Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures comes award-winning filmmaker Ryan Coogler’s “Creed.”  The film explores a new chapter in the “Rocky” story and stars Academy Award nominee Sylvester Stallone in his iconic role.  The film also reunites Coogler with his “Fruitvale Station” star Michael B. Jordan as the son of Apollo Creed.

Adonis Johnson (Jordan) never knew his famous father, world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born.  Still, there’s no denying that boxing is in his blood, so Adonis heads to Philadelphia, the site of Apollo Creed’s legendary match with a tough upstart named Rocky Balboa.

Once in the City of Brotherly Love, Adonis tracks Rocky (Stallone) down and asks him to be his trainer.  Despite his insistence that he is out of the fight game for good, Rocky sees in Adonis the strength and determination he had known in Apollo—the fierce rival who became his closest friend.  Agreeing to take him on, Rocky trains the young fighter, even as the former champ is battling an opponent more deadly than any he faced in the ring.

With Rocky in his corner, it isn’t long before Adonis gets his own shot at the title…but can he develop not only the drive but also the heart of a true fighter, in time to get into the ring?

Watch: Jesse Eisenberg Talks Batman Vs. Superman On Today Show

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21970:]]

Jesse Eisenberg, who happens to be an accomplished writer, stopped by The Today Show to talk about his latest book “Bream Gives Me Hiccups” where he also talked about Batman Vs. Superman and his character Lex Luthor.

Below you can check out the video. Here’s the blurb:

I was actually hoping to reveal the whole plot. Yes. Yes. He has no hair… on his head. It’s like the most incredible character. It was written by this guy, Chris Terrio. This is like his next movie after Argo. He’s just this brilliant writer of character, so this movie is not like a kind of cartoonish superhero movie. It’s this very serious well-acted, well directed movie. It’s really phenomenal.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has a March 25, 2016 release starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch and Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves. Watch: Tom Hardy Wants To Return As Bane & Drown Batman & Superman

Tom Hardy who played Bane for Christopher Nolan in The Dark Knight Rises and was up to play Rick Flag in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad is asked by MTV if he would like to return to the DC Universe.

Check out the above video for Hardy’s response, but he does state he would like to return to the DC Universe as Bane, and he also says he would like to hold Batman and Superman’s head under the water.

Regarding Tom Hardy’s future with the DC Universe, he is involved with the 100 Bullets Vertigo adaptation, but more than likely that will be set outside DC’s superhero universe.

Any ideas what roles could be good for Hardy? While not DC, after watching Hardy in Warrior, I kind of pictured him maybe as Wolverine.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Force Friday Target Midnight Launch Report

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Spot

Tonight at midnight marked the start of Force Friday, the day when the Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise went officially on sale.

I arrived at a local Target around 11:30pm to find the store doors already open greeted by displays of The First Order Stormtroopers, a Tie Fighter and Chewbacca.

I proceeded to the toy area where I found the section roped off with a Target employee not letting anyone near the merchandise. I was allowed to snap a few pics, but not able to get too close. There was a second section in the back where they keep the seasonal merchandise that featured additional Star Wars products as well; there I found a group of Target employees ready to leap into action.

So to the end of the line I went, where my hand was stamped with a red-colored Target logo (not sure why, no one checked) and given a raffle ticket for a chance to win a Chewbacca plush (maybe 48 inches tall or so). All in all, I would say there were around 200-300 people waiting in line by the time midnight came around.

It took only about 12 minutes past midnight to get my first look at the Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise. I started in the seasonal section, which features Star Wars T-shirts, Halloween costumes and various items. I managed to nab a Target exclusive Kylo Ren Pop! Vinyl figure, which went pretty fast as only two were left. I grabbed a Kylo Renn lightsaber (cheap one), and then overheard a Target employee being asked about the Black figures. Uh oh. Yep. Target was already out of stock on those. The Star Wars: The Force Awakens Black figures were the fastest item to go. I would probably say in 15 minutes they were all gone.

There was a second line to get to the toy aisles, which was again roped off, and Target was only letting a few people in at a time. While I waited, I overheard some fans getting excited over the Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game. Apparently, one of the guys wanted to buy five of them, but Target limited one per purchase. They remarked about people not knowing what the item was — like it was some secret power of The Force — with one guy worried he wouldn’t be able to get one. I managed to grab a box and told the guy where he could find it.

I picked up some other items, which you can check out below. Target also gave customers a cool Star Wars: The Force Awakens BB-8 tote bag, and the cashier at the register scanned the Target Star Wars coupons, so you don’t have to worry about having your own copies.

I also stopped by Toys R’ Us on my way home, but similar to Target, they were sold out of the Black Series figures as well. Toys R Us did give away a Stormtrooper First Order LEGO piece.

One thing I noticed just about everywhere, is that there is no merchandise from Star Wars: The Force Awakens featuring any of the original characters. Maybe closer to the movie’s release?

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has a December 18, 2015 release directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer.

Now Captain America: Civil War Blamed For Marvel Split

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21954:]]

Earlier saw a report make mention that Kevin Feige used the “failure” of Avengers: Age Of Ultron as reason to oust Marvel CEO billionaire Ike Perlmutter and the Marvel Comics Creative Committee.

Now a second report is stating the blame lies with the handling of Captain America: Civil War.

According to THR, the notoriously frugal Permutter wanted to scale down Captain America: Civil War as he felt the budget was ballooning. It’s stated the Marvel Creative Committee felt the same, which led to Feige booting them both.

It is said the Marvel Creative Committee, which consists of Joe Quesada, Brian Bendis, Dan Buckley and Alan Fine, has not been disbanded, but will have a nominal (at best) effect on the Marvel Studios movies. It was previously said the Committee would still be involved with Marvel TV, which still falls under Permutter, along with the comics division.

“New York had a big say for a long time but hasn’t Kevin earned the right to some autonomy? He’s made the company billions. Why is he reporting to a 72-year-old man who doesn’t make movies?” one insider remarked.

It’s noted other insiders and top agents feel things with Marvel Studios will go smoother without Perlmutter, with merchandise royalties and contracts given as examples.

A while back also saw mention that Perlmutter wanted Robert Downey Jr. written out of the Captain America: Civil War script because Perlmutter didn’t want to pay RDJ the money he would get for the film.

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Mark Ruffalo Says No Hulk For Captain America: Civil War

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21950:]]

It looks as if those earlier reports of Mark Ruffalo filming in Germany for Captain America: Civil War were a tad bit off as Ruffalo has let it be known he is not in the movie.

At the recent Venice Film Festival, the Italian website BadTaste spoke with Ruffalo about the Hulk, where Ruffalo offered the following (translated):

Because it’s still missing is not known where. I thought that I would be in the film, but in the end evidently believe that reveal what happened Hulk is something too big, and Marvel wants to use this information later. My character had been inserted in the script, but then it was taken away.Who knows, maybe Hulk will never return. However, they want to keep the revelation of what happened a secret, because it is something really big.

Ruffalo says the Hulk is still considered missing following Avengers: Age Of Ultron. He thought he would be in the film, but Marvel believes what happened to the Hulk is something too big to reveal in Captain America: Civil War, and Marvel wants to use the information later. Ruffalo also reveals he was a part of an early script, but then he was cut. Ruffalo continues with mention the revelation of what happened with the Hulk is a secret, stating it’s something really big.

Permlutter, Quesada, Bendis Blamed For Avengers: Age Of Ultron Failure

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21948:]]

Update: A second report states the blame lies with the handling of Captain America: Civil War.

Some new details/rumors surrounding the ouster of of Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter and his Marvel Comics creative committee have come to light that state the reason for the dismissal was the failure of Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

Quick recap: Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige has moved Marvel Studios away from Perlmutter and the comics and TV divisions of Marvel, and more into the Disney fold, which also saw the end of the Marvel Creative Committee (Quesada, Bendis, Buckley).

Now Bleeding Cool is stating a big reason for Feige booting them out is because Disney feels Avengers: Age Of Ultron was a failure due to not making as much money as the first movie and not as good reviews. While the difference was only around $100 million, it’s suggested Disney was disappointed people didn’t go back for second viewings. Internationally, Avengers 2 did better than the first movie, but here in the U.S. saw an almost $200 million drop. I’m guessing Disney expected Avengers 2 to do better than the first at the box office (especially considering how big a factor foreign audiences have become).

It’s said Feige used the “failure” of Avengers 2 as leverage to get rid of Perlmutter and the Creative Committee, which according to the report, was disbanded a few months ago (and may signal they are not as involved with Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange).

My two cents regarding Avengers 2 being a “failure,” I would have to agree as I was really disappointed with the movie. I wasn’t a big fan of how they portrayed Ultron, and I also felt they didn’t give Whedon a lot of creative freedom (as a lot of his stuff was cut). I can recall an interview with Whedon from a while back where it sounded as if Avengers: Age Of Ultron would be an Empire Strikes Back; however, I think we can all agree, Avengers 2 can’t even compare. Whedon said he was going to “twist the knife” and “dig a little deeper” with the sequel, which I don’t think the movie came close to doing at all.

Hugh Jackman will be reprising one last time as Logan for the upcoming untitled sequel to The Wolverine.

A couple of weeks ago saw Jackman take to his social networks to ask fans what they wanted to see most in his last movie.

In addition to Wolverine in the yellow costume, fans also stated they wanted to see Wolverine vs. Sabretooth.

Jackman then took to twitter teasing “Let’s do this. [Who’s] with me!? #WOLFPACK vs. #DOGPOUND,” of which Liev Shreiber, Sabretooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, took notice to and replied “Do I have to do that…

Now while appearing recently on Jimmy Fallon, Liev Schreiber is asked about playing Sabretooth again.

“People have surmised that from my tweet,” Shreiber said about Wolverine vs. Sabretooth happening, but he goes on to state he meant is that how he has to approach getting older, referencing Jackman exercising in the image. “I was just saying is that really something I have to do as I get older, as I approach middle-age… Like that.”

“He’s setting the bar a little high for us, isn’t he?” Shreiber questioned.

Regarding returning for the third Wolverine film, Shreiber offered: “Well, what I heard – I don’t know if I am invited – but what I heard was the storyline is ‘Old Man Logan.’ And when I heard that I thought ‘well, you know there’s Old Man Logan, there could be Old Man Sabretooth…”

Fallon and Shreiber go on to joke about the two in wheel chairs, with Shreiber adding, “I think I can do that.”

The third Wolverine film has a March 3, 2017 release with James Mangold returning to direct.
