Channing Tatum Gambit Movie Still Happening

A few weeks ago saw the Channing Tatum Gambit movie pulled from Fox Studios’ release schedule with the reason cited due to script rewrites.

Now while doing press for X-Men: Apocalypse, writer/producer Simon Kinberg confirms they are still working on the script and hopes Gambit will film by the end of this year or at the beginning of 2017.

Via Flicking Myth:

“We’ve got to get the script right. We just didn’t get the script to the place where we all thought the movie deserved. So we’re still working on the script. We’re very close, actually, to being done with the script. And the hope is that Channing [Tatum] has a couple of movies he has to shoot, but that we would shoot at the end of this year, or the beginning of next year.”

“It’s looking really good. I’m not going to say anything about it content-wise. I think one of the things that I’ve learnt on all these movies – and maybe the lesson was best learned for me on Deadpool – is the most important thing is getting the tone and the voice right. That the storytelling, the actual narrative, the plots are sort of interchangeable and disposable, ultimately.”

“…we’ve really tried to do with Gambit is make sure that we get the voice of that character right and the tone of the comics 100% on the page. It’s a very unique tone. It’s unique from Deadpool, it’s unique from the X-Men. It’s a heist movie that we’ve never done in these kinds of films before. He’s a con-man. And so that’s really where we’ve spent our time.”

“There was a moment when we were going to shoot the movie at the beginning of this year, and then we felt like it just wasn’t ready. Knowing, hoping, that Gambit is like what Deadpool was – the start of a new franchise within the X-Men universe – we want to make sure we get it right.”

Next X-Men Movies Set In 90s & Likely Space

Following X-Men: Apocalypse, the X-Men movies look to be going cosmic.

With the success of Star Wars, Star Trek and most recently Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Bryan Singer hints that’s where the next X-Men movie – which is confirmed to be set in the 90s – may headed, which is outer space.

Regarding the 90s setting, Singer told Fandango:

That was something Simon [Kinberg] and I discussed a long time ago, all the way back to when I first pitched the studio on First Class — that they do each movie in 10-year increments. It’s a nice way for the audience to kind of keep track of the timeline, and it’s fun to play in these different eras. So that’s a good starting point.”

On being set in space:

But we’ve also introduced the tenants of time travel, which already exists in the comic book. Also I imagine – and this is the first time I’ve actually answered the question this way – but another thing that’s been introduced in the comics is a big alien, interstellar tenant within the X-Men universe that hasn’t been explored. And to me, that might be kind of fun because I’m a huge Star Wars and Star Trek fan, and exploring the X-Men universe and being able to utilize that would be exciting, visually.

Singer also notes if he is going to be involved with further X-Men movies, it has to be different, which is what the space setting offers:

Like Apocalypse – like some of the imagery and characters and stakes [in that movie] – it’s something we haven’t seen before. If I’m going to be involved in a significant way, it has to be something different. Visually different and aesthetically different.”

So the ‘90s is a good jumping off point, but as we established in Days of Future Past and now with the formation of the X-Men – some characters in Apocalypse move towards their destinies. The characters who we knew from X-Men 1, 2 and 3. Meanwhile, some characters move in opposite directions. So it’s somewhat limitless.”

As noted, it’s possible the movie could be an adaptation of the Marvel Comics “Dark Phoenix” storyline which sees Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) exile herself to space where she draws upon the energy of a star which ends up destroying a planet causing the alien race known as the Shi’ar to take notice (and maybe even Gladiator and the Imperial Guard).

“X-Men: Apocalypse” has a May 27, 2016 release directed by Bryan Singer starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn, Lucas Till, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alexandra Shipp, Josh Helman, Lana Condor & Ben Hardy.

John Boyega Says Star Wars: Episode VIII Is Darker & Bigger Than Force Awakens

Perhaps following in the footsteps of Empire Strikes Back, John Boyega says Star Wars: Episode VIII will be bigger and darker than its predessor.

Boyega appeared at the Cannes Film Festival where Variety caught up with the actor.

It’s very easy. Rian Johnson is great. It’s a different take, darker, bigger. Someone will say: “How do you get bigger than ‘Force Awakens?’” But it’s crazy.

Boyega wouldn’t say if his comments pertain to his character of Finn and jokingly responded with:

My skin color does because of the heat on the job! That’s me dodging your question because Disney has spies everywhere. If I answer this, I get killed, and I’m not in episode nine.

“Star Wars: Episode VIII” has a December 16, 2017 release directed by Rian Johnson starring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.

Watch: Chris Evans Jokes Robert Downey Jr. Is Like Batman

Check out a video below featuring Chris Evans talking about that cool helicopter scene from Captain America: Civil War.

Evans is asked if there was any digital effects used for the look of his bulging biceps.

Evans asks Kevin Feige if there was, in which Feige says it’s all Evans.

Evans then goes on to explain that filming the movie saw his arm become soar at various times.

Chris Evans then jokes he was in Robert Downey Jr.’s trailer nursing his soar arm, and compares it to Batman.

“…There were many days that I would come into Downey’s trailer, and he has all these amazing contraptions,” Evans offered. “He’s like – well, I was going to say another comic book character; we don’t want to bring DC into this [everyone laughs]. – but he has all these amazing toys, and he had all these stickers and weird things [“electro medicine,” added Downey]. Whatever it is. It actually was great. It’s a mess again though…”

Paul Rudd and Anthony Russo also offer their thoughts on the scene.

Kevin Feige Says Inhumans Movie Is Still A Go

Last month Disney took the Inhumans movie off its release schedule, leading to speculation that rumors surrounding the cancellation of the film were true.

Now Kevin Feige addresses the future of Inhumans while appearing on the Captain America: Civil War podcast with Empire Online.

“The only situation right now is that it’s not going to be part of Phase Three, because Phase Three increased in a very good way since we originally announced it.

When and where and how it pops up remains to be seen, but it’s characters we love, it’s a storyline we love and we just didn’t want to cram it into an already quite full Phase Three.”

Regarding Kevin Feige stating Phase 3 increased in a good way, he is referring to the addition of Spider-Man: Homecoming as well as the Ant-Man & Wasp movie.

It should be noted the original rumor about the cancellation of Inhumans basically said Marvel would see it removed from its release date followed by its cancelleation with the reason being they couldn’t find the right director for the film. It’s been said the real reason for Inhumans getting the boot is due to Feige’s feud with Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter.

If the Inhumans movie is ever a go, it looks to be released later in 2019 or beyond.

Kevin Feige Confirms No Natalie Portman For Thor 3

With the news that Creed star Tessa Thompson will play the love interest to Chris Hemsworth in Thor: Ragnarok, it was also said Natalie Portman wouldn’t be featured in the movie.

Now Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige confirms Natalie Portman won’t be in Thor 3 while appearing on an Empire Online podcast.

“I can confirm that, yes,” Feige said, who went on to explain there are “many reasons” for Portman’s absence and suggested it has more to do with the plot of Thor: Ragnarok than any possible rumors suggesting Portman has been at odds with Marvel ever since Patty Jenkins was let go from directing Thor 2. “Many of which are in the film so you will see that. There are only a couple of scenes on Earth in this movie. 80 to 90 percent takes place in the cosmos.”

Feige also continued on with mention Thor: Ragnarok will be more set in space.

“Tonally and geographically there are a lot of different planets outside of the nine realms that we visit in Thor: Ragnarok,” Feige said.

Thor: Ragnarok has a November 3, 2017 release directed by Taika Waititi also starring Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk and Cate Blanchett is the rumored villain (possibly Hela).

Simon Kinberg Wants To Do Fantastic Four 2

Following last year’s Fantastic Four box office disaster, it’s learned that writer/producer Simon Kinberg still wants to do a sequel.

It probably should be noted Fox basically has to do another Fantastic Four film, otherwise the rights revert back to Marvel Studios, which is why they did the 2015 movie last year.

Via Den of Geek:

“We want to make another ‘Fantastic Four’ movie. We love that cast – I mean if I were to say to you now Michael B Jordan and Miles Teller, and Kate [Mara] and Jamie [Bell] are great actors – we love that cast. I love the comic, I mean I love it almost as much as X-Men. We’re working really hard on figuring that out. Nothing would make me happier than the world embracing a ‘Fantastic Four’ movie. We’ll try to be truer to the essence of the tone of Fantastic Four, which is completely – well, not completely, but largely – distinct from the X-Men, which is brighter, funner, more optimistic tone. I think we tried to make a darker ‘Fantastic Four’ movie, which seemed like a radical idea but we were kind of messing with the DNA of the actual comic instead of trusting the DNA of the comic.”

Interstingly enough, the Josh Trank script and cut of the movie has been said to be exactly that — brighter and funner. The release of Fantastic Four saw controvery as Trank tweeted out he wasn’t happy with the final cut of Fantastic Four, suggesting it wasn’t his version.

Kinberg, who rewrote Trank’s script, went on to admit they didn’t do a good job.

“We didn’t make a good movie and the world voted, and I think they probably voted correctly. And you can’t make a good movie every time out – not everybody does. We actually have a pretty good batting average, all things considered. But I think we made many mistakes when we made that movie – mistakes that we learned from and we wouldn’t repeat.”

It remains to be seen whether or not the cast will be back for a Fantastic Four sequel as some of them said they didn’t think they would be returning, and it’s also learned Michael B. Jordan has been cast in Marvel’s Black Panther movie.

Michael B. Jordan Cast In Black Panther

It’s learned Michael B. Jordan has been cast in the upcoming Black Panther movie.

THR reports Michael B. Jordan may actually play a villain in the film, opposite Chadwick Boseman.

Jordan recently starred as the Human Torch in Fox’s Fantastic Four flop, which is not connected to the Marvel Studios movies.

Jordan also starred in Ryan Coogler’s Creed who is helming Black Panther as well.

Potential villains Jordan could play in Black Panther include: Man-Ape, Erik Killmonger, Achebe, Damon Dran, Death Tiger, Morgan, Solomon Prey, Sombre, T’shan, or how about Blade?

Star Wars’ Lupita Nyong’o is also said to be in negotiations to star in Black Panther.

Chris Evans also jumped ship from playing the Human Torch to Captain America; that worked out well, so should Michael B. Jordan.

Black Panther has a Feb. 2, 2018 release date.

KOEI TECMO America today unveiled new details on pre-order bonuses and gameplay for Attack on Titan, the fast-paced action game based on the worldwide anime hit. An epic action game based on the anime by the same name, Attack on Titan incorporates the claustrophobic atmosphere and iconic, fast-paced battle action of one of the most celebrated new anime IPs of the last few years. Two new trailers have been released to show off the high-octane action within the game, which can be viewed at the following URLs:

The Omni-Directional Mobility Gear is featured as a key gameplay element within Attack on Titan. Players are able to utilize the gear to quickly traverse the environment and to aid them in slaying Titans. However, players will need to monitor their gas tank levels as they use the ODM gear. Gas will deplete as players fly through the environment, though additional gas tanks can be carried to quickly replenish gas levels. In addition, as players fight using their blades their durability will deteriorate. Replacing blades is an important tactic to weakening and slaying the Titans and should be executed quickly to guarantee that effective damage is dealt.

Titans can be weakened by attacking their limbs. As players use the Omni-Directional Mobility Gear to latch onto Titans, they are able to aim at which limb they wish to attack. For the killing blow, players will want to aim for the nape of the Titans neck—their critical weak spot—to ensure optimal damage.

As players fight the Titans they will not be alone. Up to four non-playable characters can be recruited to fight alongside the player, and can be commanded to carry out attacks, offering different ways to approach the oncoming Titans.

Published by DC Comics in 1988, the two-time Eisner Award winning Batman: The Killing Joke graphic novel has maintained an unparalleled popularity throughout its 28 years of existence – as evidenced by its recent ranking as the best-selling graphic novel of 2015.

Batman: The Killing Joke presents one of the most compelling stories in the annals of Batman’s adventures: the evolution of The Joker from normalcy to criminal insanity. This was a very challenging story to tell because of the intense, often disturbing storyline, but we are extremely pleased with how true to the graphic novel we have been in this original film.” said Mary Ellen Thomas, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Vice President, Family & Animation Marketing. “Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is proud to release Batman: The Killing Joke as an authentic representation of its revered story for both longtime fans and new fans alike.” The celebrity-laden cast is led by Kevin Conroy (Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League) and Mark Hamill (Star Wars franchise) as they reprise their seminal roles as the voices of Batman/Bruce Wayne and The Joker, respectively. The cast also features Tara Strong (Teen Titans; Batman: Arkham games), as Barbara Gordon and Ray Wise (Twin Peaks, RoboCop) as Commissioner Gordon.

Batman: The Killing Joke is directed by Sam Liu (Justice League vs. Teen Titans) from a script by Eisner Award-winning writer Brian Azzarello. Bruce Timm and Sam Register are executive producers, and Alan Burnett is co-producer. Benjamin Melniker & Michael Uslan are executive producers.

Don’t Blame Greg Berlanti For Green Lantern Movie Failure

For fans of the DC TV series, Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow and Supergirl, you may have been left scratching your head wondering why those shows are so good while the Green Lantern movie was a failure.

Greg Berlanti is the showrunner of the DC TV series (and might direct the Booster Gold movie) and is credited as a writer and producer on the Green Lantern movie.

So what happened?

Berlanti offers to THR that he is not to blame for Green Lantern as he didn’t have much to do with the final version of the film. Berlanti’s script wasn’t used, and he says he basically had to just go to the set and watch them ruin the movie as he was “fired.”

I’ve had a lot of stuff not work on TV, too. I’ve had as much failure in this business as I’ve had success, across both spectrums. We can count pillows! (Laughs.) But Green Lantern is a great one to point to. I got fired from that movie as a writer and as a director, and yet my name was all over it. I still get blamed for it, even though I had nothing to do with the finished product. As Marc Guggenheim always says, there’s a very Google-able script that we did write that was not executed that I still stand by. But at the time, I thought, “Oh God, that noose will hang around my neck my whole life.”

My only request [when we started on Arrow] was to let us do it our way because I was so heartbroken by what had happened. Being a part of something like that when you’ve loved those characters your whole life, and thinking you’re not going to really get a chance to participate before you even start was very [tough]. Having to go every day to see whatever version of the film that they’d concocted at that point was a bit like having to buckle in and go drive to the same auto accident every day and get hit by the same car.

The 2011 Green Lantern movie finished with a worldwide gross of $219 million, with $116.6 million of that from the U.S. It’s opening U.S. weekend saw over $53 million.

WB is currently rebooting Green Lantern in their new Justice League movie universe. The Green Lantern Corps movie has a 2020 release date.

Greg Berlanti Confirms Booster Gold Movie

Following yesterday’s rumor, it’s now confirmed that a Booster Gold movie is in development.

Greg Berlanti, the showrunner of the CW DC TV series, confirmed Booster Gold is being written by Zack Stentz, who also is known for writing Thor, X-Men: First Class and the upcoming Power Rangers movie.

Berlanti also said he would like to direct the Booster Gold film.

When questioned if he would like to be the “Kevin Feige” of the DC films, Berlanti offered (via THR):

It’s never even really come up. Peter [Roth, president of Warner Bros. TV] knows how much I love the characters, and I like being part of this universe in any way that they’ll all allow and are interested in me being a part. That’s the truth. I’m attached to a few films [at Warner Bros.] now, and one, Booster Gold, is a DC property. Zack Stentz, who wrote an episode of Flash last year, just got the job, so he’s writing the script now. I’d probably direct that, or I would want to. But I don’t see my cup as limited. I actually think some of the stuff we get to do on the TV side is richer, deeper and more like the true comic books in the sense that you’re always able to explore a new thing the next week and the stories grow wider and wider.

No release date is set for Booster Gold, but DC does have three untitled DC release dates set: October 5, 2018, June 14, 2019 and  July 24, 2020.

X-Men: Apocalypse Has A Post-Credit Scene

Yes. X-Men: Apocalypse does have a post-credit scene.

Writer/producer Simon Kinberg confirmed a post-credit scene.

Slight spoiler/tease follows (nothing too specific) from Kinberg:

“It’s a nod toward potentially a lot of different movies. I mean certainly the Wolverine movie is related to what happens at the end of it, but there’s also another character that’s introduced, at least in name, in the tag and he could show up in any host of different X-Men films. Maybe a Gambit movie, maybe another X-Men movie.”

“X-Men: Apocalypse” has a May 27, 2016 release directed by Bryan Singer starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn, Lucas Till, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alexandra Shipp, Josh Helman, Lana Condor & Ben Hardy.

Synopsis:

Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer returns with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
