Marvel TV 'Exploring' Bringing Back Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones

With Charlie Cox a part of the MCU and Daredevil: Born Again premiering next month, it’s learned Marvel TV is exploring the idea of bringing back Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.

History behind Marvel Studios and Marvel Netflix

All four were a part of the popular Marvel Netflix brand, which at the time was separate and had nothing to do with Kevin Feige’s Marvel Studios.

Kevin Feige vs Jeph Loeb

The two divisions didn’t even get along. Feige ran the movies, while Jeph Loeb ran Marvel Netflix. Reportedly, Feige and Loeb couldn’t stand each other (I’ve heard the Marvel movie people call Loeb an “ahole.”) Regardless, it’s safe to say that Feige would now kill for that Netflix viewership.

Feige’s Marvel on Disney+ has been a massive failure. So much so that Feige recently retooled Daredevil: Born Again to make it more in line with the popular Netflix show instead of originally being similar to the abomination of She-Hulk (exactly as my insiders said). Feige also retooled Marvel Studios’ TV division after the big $200 million failure of Secret Invasion. Feige hired execs who didn’t like and wouldn’t hire creators who were fans of comic books. How’d that work out? Meanwhile, Loeb had guys like Bendis and Joe Quesada involved who were comic book stalwarts.

Feige’s Marvel has become a big bust

Feige has since taken over all of Marvel, and it hasn’t been good. I believe direct market comic book sales are at the worst they’ve ever been, 50% of comic book shops have closed, and recently saw comic book distributor Diamond go bankrupt. Likewise, the past five years of the MCU have been a disaster with Feige’s woke DEI adaptation of the Marvel Comics NOW! brand, which is a proven failure. The Marvels is the worst-performing superhero movie in existence. Captain America: Brave New World will be lucky to break even.

What about the Marvel Netflix characters?

Back to the Marvel Netflix characters, we get work from Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios‘ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation.

“I can’t say much, but I’ll tell you that it’s so exciting to be able to play in that sandbox,” Winderbaum told Entertainment Weekly. “Obviously we don’t have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book. If you can draw it, you can do it.”

He continued, “It’s dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television. But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring.”

Rumors

Various rumors have offered that the Marvel Netflix characters are returning. Reportedly, Jessica Jones was supposed to be in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, but when they retooled that to move it out of the MCU, they went with a different character. It’s said a different version of Iron Fist will appear in the upcoming Wakanda animated series. Not much has been said about Luke Cage, but Mike Colter recently finished up on Paramount+’s Evil, so maybe we’ll see him in the MCU. Both Krysten Ritter and Finn Jones have teased an MCU return as well.

Years ago, I was told an Iron Fist series was in development, which Jones addressed last year and said he would like to reteam with Colter.

Ritter has also said she wants to return as Jessica Jones.
