Marvel Phase 4 Plans Are Cosmic

Marvel Phase 4 Goes Cosmic

It’s being said again that the Marvel Phase 4 plans are going COSMIC, and that a big announcement may be forthcoming.

Update: There was no big announcement, just a rumor about a possible Eternals movie.

Users apparently close to the movie industry on Twitter tweeted out cryptic clues as to what follows The Avengers 4.

Nothing specific has been mentioned other than “Marvel Cosmic,” which has previously been confirmed to be a big part of Marvel Studios’ Phase 4 plans.

“It’s such amazing news, the entire fan community will squee as if they’re the last people on Alderaan. @Kevfeige deserves the Thalberg Award at next year’s Oscars… But I’m not the one who’s gonna’ drop the news…” Robert Meyer Burnett tweeted.

Burnett followed it up with a second tweet, “Okay. It has something to do with an upcoming Marvel Studios Film.”

Note: Robert Meyer Burnett, an editor, writer and director, who has worked on Star Trek projects and the Femme Fatale TV series, also stated a friend saw Han Solo and said it was good

This is also said to NOT be an April Fool’s Day joke.

Other details said to be about the possible upcoming big announcement about the Marvel Phase 4 plans include that it isn’t about Fox Studios, the X-Men or Fantastic Four, unfortunately isn’t about Nova, and is said to be closer to Marvel COSMIC stuff like the Beyonder and Celestials, but not quite (via reddit).

Marvel Phase 4

It has been previously said Marvel Phase 4 is going COSMIC as Disney CEO Bob Iger hinted, “We’re looking for worlds that are completely separate—geographically or in time—from the worlds that we’ve already visited.”

Kevin Feige has confirmed there are big Marvel COSMIC plans in place as well which involves Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn

“I think it’s a little early to know what [Marvel Phase 4] going to look like,” Feige said. “I think things are going to look very different at that point, but I think the early discussions we’ve had with James [Gunn] about [Guardians of the Galaxy] Vol. 3 and beyond with what we’ll call the ‘Cosmic Universe’ and the Guardian characters is very exciting. Which is why he signed up and we announced that even before Guardians Vol. 2 came out.”

Feige spoke more about the Marvel Cosmic Universe and Gunn: “I think James in particular has an amazing connection with these characters and with this cosmic world. So he, I think, could easily oversee additional stories beyond Vol. 3. And I think he has them and just continues to come up with them, which is cool. All of our core writers and filmmakers know what we are doing in other places and help give input on the various projects.”

Kevin Feige also previously teased many more Marvel movies to come: [Marvel is] 22 movies in, and we’ve got another 20 movies on the docket that are completely different from anything that’s come before—intentionally.

Feige also previously teased everything following The Avengers 4 will be different.

“[Avengers 4 will] bring things you’ve never seen in superhero films: a finale.” Feige said. “There will be two distinct periods. Everything before Avengers 4 and everything after. I know it will not be in ways people are expecting.”

Presently, making up the Marvel Phase 4 plans includes Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 on July 5, 2019 and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 in 2020; a Black Widow movie is also said to be in the works.

Marvel Phase 4

Regarding what COSMIC stories and characters might be coming to Marvel Phase 4 is a good question.

Characters like Galactus, Silver Surfer, Fantastic Four and Annihilius are over at Fox Studios, and it was said above not to be part of whatever big announcement may be coming (unless Marvel already has Silver Surfer). Some guesses off of the top of my mind include Adam Warlock, Magus, the Eternals, maybe even an MCU reboot of the Inhumans, Beta Ray Bill, a movie with the original Guardians of the Galaxy (Sylvester Stallone, etc), maybe something like Operation Galactic Storm or an adaptation of Annihilation?

I’ll tell you what would be pretty awesome is if Marvel Studios went with a human hero in space, for example someone like Quasar, who is also an Avenger. Mark Gruenwald’s Quasar is pretty fabulous, IMO, and rich with Marvel COSMIC. The “Journey Into Mystery” issues and the epic “Cosmos In Collision” 7-parter are super underrated.
