Jurassic World Rebirth Goes Extinct With $80M Opening, B CinemaScore

Lining right up with estimates, Jurassic World: Rebirth is on track for a franchise low opening, as its 3-day is currently at only $80M.

The CinemaScore also becomes known, and it’s not good with a “B,” which is usually a score associated with low-budget horror movies. It’s also the second-lowest CinemaScore of the entire franchise and only beats Jurassic Park III’s “B-.”

The Rotten Tomatoes audience score also comes in at a cool 73%, lower than Dominion, while the critics’ score is at a “rotten” 51%.

You can read my review here where I didn’t like the movie at all and feel it’s just a bunch of dumb things happening over and over with an ending that falls flat, just like the entire movie.

Regarding the Jurassic World: Rebirth 5-day holiday weekend estimates, though the 3-day $80M lands exactly where estimated, sites like Deadline are offering the 5-day will be higher at $133.5M, while they previously estimated $120M-$130M.

Saturday update: Despite how bad the move is, fans decided to come out for themselves, as the 3-day is a bit higher at $85.4M, with the 5-day haul claimed to be $141.2M. It will be interesting to see if the flick has legs.

Sunday update: We go further over the numbers here where JWR stomps the estimates but still shows a big decline from the previous films.

Regardless, that $133.5M still isn’t a good number when you realize Jurassic World: Dominion opened to $145 million in 3 DAYS back in 2022.

Likewise, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) opened to $148 million over 3 DAYS, which in today’s dollars is over $189M.

Jurassic World (2015) opened to over $208 million in 3 DAYS, which in today’s dollars is over $283 million.

Jurassic World: Rebirth also doesn’t have the benefit of IMAX screenings. F1 keeps them again, which also bombed last week.

The Jurassic World: Rebirth budget is also reported to be a mammoth $225 million, which means Jurassic World: Rebirth will need to hit $562.5 million just to break even.

So far, the summer box office is starting off pretty weak. As I tweeted, it’s looking like it’s James Gunn’s Superman to lose, assuming Gunn can deliver (however, a leaked Superman review says otherwise). Marvel’s Fantastic Four could be another Cap 4 and Thunderbolts.
