Joe Quesada Directing Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD: Slingshot

Joe Quesada is directing the Agents of SHIELD digital spinoff series, Slingshot, that debuts today on the ABC App.

Following last week’s mid-season finale of Marvel’s AGENTS of SHIELD, ABC played a short teaser revealing the new six-episode digital series that follows Natalia Cordova’s Agent Elena ‘Yo-Yo’ Rodriguez’s secret mission.

Agents of SHIELD: Slingshot marks Quesada’s directorial debut; Quesada started off as a comic book artist before ascending to the ranks of Marvel Comics Editor-In-Chief and then Marvel Chief Creative Officer. Quesada is also a part of Ike Perlmutter’s Marvel TV/Comics creative committee that is launching the IMAX event Inhumans series.

“Joe Quesada is one of the legendary Shaolin ninja priests of Marvel. We’ve been friends for a long time, and it’s really a treat to get him to be out here and to get to work with him the first time he directs,” Clark Gregg, who plays Agents Phil Coulson, tells IGN.

Joe Quesada also storyboarded the Slingshot series.

“My storyboards are probably a little more detailed than they need to be. Just because that’s the world I come from, from the world of comics where I sort of see shots. The same rules of storytelling, whether in film or television, apply directly to comic books when you do it right,” Quesada said.

“Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD: Slingshot” debuts December 13th on the ABC app with all six episodes being available. The series tells the story of what happened to Yo-Yo and the rest of the SHIELD agents during the break between Seasons 3 and 4 and will fill in some of the gaps between the seasons.
