It’s announced that both James Gunn and John Cena will be attending a Peacemaker panel at the CCXP Mexico in June. Oddly, nothing is mentioned about Superman, which comes out a month later.
Gunn actually hasn’t presented the Superman cast in front of a live fan audience, while this will be the second time he has done so for Peacemaker Season 2, as he previously promoted Peacemaker last year at the NYCC.
Gunn also wasn’t at least year’s San Diego Comic Con, and he might not be appearing at this year’s Comic Con in late July. Even if he does appear at SDCC this year (Supergirl comes out next June and Peacemaker Season 2 in August), Superman will have already been released.
Update: Gunn confirms he will be at this summer’s SDCC, but the Superman cast won’t be with him, only John Cena from Peacemaker.
“It’s just me and John and Peacemaker. Though of course I’ll talk about everything,” replied Gunn.
Gunn Promotes Himself, Not Superman, at Major Events
It’s pretty strange if you ask me, as Gunn isn’t promoting Superman at any of the big conventions.
WB did promote Superman at CinemaCon, but reports offer that, much like most of the marketing surrounding the film, the CinemaCon presentation was all about Gunn.
WB also brought in Gunn for the recent upfronts for advertisers, along with Cena, but again, I don’t think any of the other cast members were present. Gunn also skipped the big CCXP Brazil con last December.
No Budget, No Cast: Zaslav’s Cuts Leave Superman Off the Convention Circuit
If I had to guess, I would guess there is zero budget to promote Superman at the various conventions. Is WB as broke as Gunn’s Man of Steel?
I believe Zaslav is responsible for massive budget cuts to various HBO series (i.e. House of the Dragon), and I was also told Zaslav demanded that Gunn reboot DC with cheaper talent. Penny-pincher Zaslav looks to be the real villain behind it all.
So that means none of the Superman cast will be on stage anywhere, which includes: David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, with Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince, and Neva Howell.
