James Gunn supports the release of the “Ayer Cut” version of the Suicide Squad movie that was released back in 2016.

Gunn, who is known for directing Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy films, will be doing his own take on the Suicide Squad which is due out Aug. 6, 2021.

Not much is known about James Gunn’s take on the characters, but it will feature some of the same actors as the original movie which was directed by David Ayer.

Speaking of David Ayer, with the Snyder Cut of the Justice League movie getting greenlit for HBO Max, there has been talk of getting David Ayer’s version of the Suicide Squad movie released, known as the “Ayer Cut.”

David Ayer has been vocal about it on social media where it has come out that, similar to Zack Snyder, Ayer received a lot of interference by studios executives at Warner Bros. who forced him to change things.

Now James Gunn has been brought into the conversation on Twitter, but while you may have thought it would be a bit awkward, Gunn has no problem if the Ayer Cut does get released.

“I’d be okay with whatever @DavidAyerMovies & Warners wanted to release with that no problem,” tweeted Gunn on Tuesday.

David Ayer replied to Gunn’s tweet: “James, I really appreciate that, however this crazy ride unfolds. You’re good people and no lie – I can’t wait to see your take on these characters – you’re a master filmmaker.”

James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is awesome and badass says DC insider

Regarding some of the changes to the Ayer Cut, reportedly it has involved the Jared Leto Joker as well as changing a lot in the third act, including that originally the Suicide Squad was set to battle the Parademons, and Steppenwolf, the villain of the Justice League movie, was supposed to appear at the end.

I’ve been told by a DC insider that James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad will be awesome and badass and something that not only DC fans will love, but Marvel and all the fans as well, so it’s not like there is some sort of rivalry or competition going on between Gunn and the previous version or with Ayer.

If the Snyder Cut does happen to be a huge success on HBO Max, maybe Warner Bros. will also greenlight the Ayer Cut?
