Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Picturesâ âKong: Skull Islandâ reimagines the origin of the mythic Kong in a compelling, original adventure from director Jordan Vogt-Roberts (âThe Kings of Summerâ).
In the film, a diverse team of explorers is brought together to venture deep into an uncharted island in the Pacific â as beautiful as it is treacherous â unaware that theyâre crossing into the domain of the mythic Kong.
âKong: Skull Islandâ stars Tom Hiddleston (âThe Avengers,â âThor: The Dark Worldâ), Samuel L. Jackson (âThe Hateful Eight,â âAvengers: Age of Ultronâ), Oscar winner Brie Larson (âRoom,â âTrainwreckâ), John Goodman (âTransformers: Age of Extinction,â âArgoâ) and John C. Reilly (âGuardians of the Galaxy,â âStep Brothersâ). The international ensemble cast also includes Tian Jing (âPolice Story: Lockdownâ), Corey Hawkins (âStraight Outta Comptonâ), Jason Mitchell (âStraight Outta Comptonâ), John Ortiz (âSteve Jobsâ), Thomas Mann (âBeautiful Creaturesâ), Shea Whigham (âThe Wolf of Wall Streetâ), Toby Kebbell (âDawn of the Planet of the Apesâ) and Eugene Cordero (âThe Kings of Summerâ).
Vogt-Roberts is directing the film from a screenplay by Max Borenstein, John Gatins, Dan Gilroy and Derek Connolly. âKong: Skull Islandâ is produced by Legendaryâs Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni with Mary Parent. The executive producers are Eric McLeod and Alex Garcia.
The creative behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography Larry Fong (âBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justiceâ), production designer Stefan Dechant (supervising art director âTrue Grit,â âAvatarâ), editor Christian Wagner (the âFast & Furiousâ films), and costume designer Mary Vogt (the âMen in Blackâ films). The team also includes Oscar-winning makeup supervisor Bill Corso (âLemony Snicketâs A Series of Unfortunate Events,â âStar Wars: The Force Awakensâ) and supervising stunt coordinator George Cottle (âInterstellar,â âThe Dark Knight Risesâ). The legendary Kong is being brought to life at a whole new scale by Industrial Light & Magic, with two-time Oscar winner Stephen Rosenbaum (âAvatar,â âForrest Gumpâ) serving as visual effects supervisor.
To fully immerse audiences in the mysterious Skull Island, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts and his cast and filmmaking team are filming across three continents over six months, capturing its primordial landscapes on Oahu, Hawaii â where filming commenced on October 2015 â on Australiaâs Gold Coast, and finally in Vietnam, where filming will take place across multiple locations, some of which have never before been seen on film.
