Godzilla Minus Zero is getting its teaser trailer later today (watch in the player below) following the movie’s CinemaCon presentation, where attendees got an early look at footage from Takashi Yamazaki’s sequel to Godzilla Minus One.
The new film continues the story of the survivors from the last attack and raises the stakes in a big way with Godzilla heading straight for New York City.
Godzilla Minus Zero footage shown at CinemaCon
CinemaCon viewers were shown a behind-the-scenes sizzle reel instead of a full traditional trailer.
The footage highlighted elaborate practical builds and production work, including bomber jets, destroyed city environments, and a miniature Godzilla model used during development.
Yamazaki also revealed the story takes place two years after the events of Godzilla Minus One.
The biggest moment came at the end, as Godzilla made his way toward the Statue of Liberty, teasing an attack on New York City. That ending immediately set the tone for the sequel and makes it clear this follow-up is going bigger than the first movie.
Sequel follows Godzilla Minus One success
The first film became a breakout hit outside Japan and won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects, which only added more attention to what Yamazaki would do next with the franchise.
TOHO previously confirmed Godzilla Minus Zero for a November 2026 theatrical release in Japan, with GKIDS handling a North American theatrical rollout days later.
The official Godzilla channels have also been promoting the first look teaser premiere for April 14, so fans will not have to wait long to see what CinemaCon audiences were talking about.
Godzilla heads to New York
Moving the action toward New York City is a major shift for the sequel. Godzilla Minus One kept things rooted in post-war Japan, which was a big part of why the movie hit so hard.
Godzilla Minus Zero looks to keep the same survivors at the center while expanding the scale for what could be an even bigger disaster movie.
With the teaser trailer about to go live, fans are finally getting their first real look at one of the most anticipated monster movies on the schedule.
