Godzilla Minus One Director Returns for New Godzilla Ride Coming Summer 2025

Godzilla fans are getting another hit of monster action next summer—this time from a seat on a thrill ride.

Takashi Yamazaki, the Oscar-winning director behind Godzilla Minus One, is back to write, direct, and handle the visual effects for a new Godzilla ride attraction set to debut in 2025.

Yamazaki Expands His Godzilla Resume

This isn’t Yamazaki’s first time crafting a Godzilla experience for theme parks. He previously worked on Godzilla the Ride: Giant Monsters Ultimate Battle, which is still running at Seibuen Amusement Park in Japan. Actor Ryunosuke Kamiki, who starred in Godzilla Minus One, even admitted to collecting figures based on the ride’s monster designs.

Now, Yamazaki is taking things further. He says he’s excited to return to the Godzilla universe as a “passenger” and promises that his team is “working day and night” to make the new attraction “the most terrifying ride in the world.”

“I’m thrilled to return to Godzilla’s world from the passenger seat,” said Yamazaki in a statement. “What powerful foes will emerge? Where will this ride take us next? As a ride enthusiast myself, I can’t wait for my first spin—and I’m working day and night with our team to make this the most terrifying ride in the world.”

Ride Will Feature Bigger Scope, Broader Reach

The ride is being developed using the iRide system from Brogent Technologies, Inc. in Taiwan. According to the announcement from Toho, it’s set to be larger in scale than the first and will roll out at multiple top-tier theme parks and entertainment centers.

What’s Next?

Details such as the official ride name and the monsters involved are still under wraps, but fans can expect more updates as the summer launch approaches. For now, it’s clear Yamazaki is aiming to deliver another intense Godzilla experience—this time on rails.

Takashi Yamazaki is also developing a new Godzilla movie, which was first announced six months ago.

Godzilla Minus One was released in 2023 and brought in over $113 million on a budget of less than $15 million. The film also won an Oscar for Best Visual Effects.
