In anticipation of tomorrow’s big reveal of the Godzilla movie footage at the Comic-Con, Gareth Edwards has spoken a little bit about the legendary King of the Monsters.

Update: Comic-Con Godzilla trailer description is online and reveals new monster.

Edwards notes that the Godzilla statue as seen at the Comic-Con Encounter event (right) is a resemblance, but not 100% accurate, and also tells ShockTillUDrop his take on the monster to date by mentioning that Godzilla is the wrath of nature.

“He’s not like King Kong where there’s a personality. Godzilla is definitely a representation of the wrath of nature,” Edwards said; however, given that they are in the process of the process of visual FX for the monster, he notes more to Godzilla is coming through. “It’s probably going to develop more personality as we go on and my answer might be different when we’re done, but he definitely has personality from the icon he is.  We’ve taken it very seriously and the theme is man versus nature and Godzilla is certainly the nature side of it. You can’t win that fight.”

Edwards continues by mentioning that nature vs. man theme is an aspect of the movie as well as describes Godzilla as an anti-hero.

“Nature’s always going to win and that’s what the subtext of our movie is about.  He’s an anti-hero,” Edwards continued.  “I wouldn’t describe him as a good guy, but he’s not evil personified.  He’s the punishment we deserve, you know?”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:9536:]]Speaking of being an anti-hero, we know from the Comic-Con synopsis below that Godzilla will be taking on multiple monsters in the film, with humanity looking to be the cause. With such big threats on the horizon, will Godzilla have his iconic atomic breath? Edwards doesn’t specifically confirm, but offers Godzilla might.

“There is a nuclear element in the movie,” he said.

Godzilla will be a part of the Legendary/Warner Bros. panel tomorrow at Comic-Con. Look for more updates to follow.
