Ghostbusters 4 Titled 'Frozen Kingdom' Trailer Ready To Go

It’s learned the sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife is titled Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, with it said the trailer is ready to go.

While some may have thought the title is “Firehouse,” it turns out that is only the working title.

Per the official image released in June by Sony and the official Ghostbusters Twitter account, we see the logo actually has ice, hinting at the frozen title.

Scoopers are also claiming the Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire trailer is also set and could be released in the next two weeks.

Update: Teasers have been released and the Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire trailer arrives Wednesday, Nov. 8:

What is Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire about?

Not much is known about the plot but the flick is described as the next chapter of the Spengler family saga.

It’s known they return to the Firehouse in NYC from the original movies, as McKenna Grace who returns as Phoebe posted a set video featuring the Firehouse (see below).

The Afterlife post-credits scene also teased the Firehouse as Winston returned to the original building with Ecto-1. The flashing red light on the ghost containment tank in the basement can be seen turned on and blinking red.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has finished filming

Ernie Hudson spoke with Screen Rant in July and confirmed Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has finished filming.

“Yeah, we finished, the movie is done, it’s wrapped. Obviously, they’re editing and doing whatever else,” he said.

Dan Aykroyd also confirmed he is returning along with original cast members Annie Potts, Hudson, and Bill Murray along with the Afterlife cast.

“…It’s got to be edited and mixed and the CGI has to be put into it. I’m excited about this one,” Dan Aykroyd filled in Metro back in June. “It’s got a beautiful, heartfelt story, a great threat, some scary moments, some funny moments and it brings back Annie Potts and Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray and myself and we’ve handed the torch to the new people, Finn Wolfhard and Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon.”

William Atherton also returns as Walter Peck, the EPA inspector from the first film which ties into the Afterlife post-credit scene, as in the original, Peck ordered the containment unit shut down which exploded and let loose all the ghosts in NYC.

New to the cast includes Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals), Patton Oswalt (The Goldbergs), James Acaster (Hypothetical), and Emily Alyn Lind (Doctor Sleep).

When does Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire get released?

The film has a March 29, 2024 release date.

Whether or not the release date will get pushed back again due to the current strike is unknown, as it was supposed to be released this Christmas.

With Ernie Hudston confirming filming was finished in July, that means they only have to finish with post-production, assuming no reshoots are needed. If reshoots are needed, that means they have to wait until the strike is over which hopefully is soon (maybe even this week). If no reshoots, that gives them even more time go make the special effects all the better.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is directed by Gil Kenan (Monster House, Poltergeist remake) who takes over from Jason Reitman, who wrote the script with Kenan and who stays on as a producer.

“It’s an absolute honor to pick up the proton pack and step behind the camera for the next chapter of the Spengler family saga,” said Kenan, when the sequel was announced. “I just wish I could go back to 1984 and tell the kid in the sixth row of the Mann Valley West that one day he was going to get to direct a Ghostbusters film.“

Reitman added, “A few years ago, my father [Ivan Reitman, director of the first two Ghostbusters movies] handed me the keys to Ecto-1 and together we made Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Words will never express how grateful I am to have made a film with my father by my side. It’s now time to hand those keys to my creative partner and fellow Ghostbuster Gil Kenan, a brilliant director who will keep the Spengler spirit alive. I can only hope to provide him the same producorial care and support that my father showed me.”
