Fox Execs Were Up In Arms Over Logan’s Dark Take

While just about everyone loved the first Logan trailer with the Johnny Cash music, it's learned that the Fox execs were worried about James Mangold's dark, gritty and realistic take on Wolverine.

Variety reports Twentieth Century Fox Film chairman Stacey Snider stated Fox was at first concerned about Logan.

“Inside, there was real consternation about the intensity of the tone of the film,” Snider said in a Q&A at the Recode Media conference Tuesday in Laguna Niguel, Calif.. “It’s more of an elegy about life and death. The paradigm for it was a Western, and my colleagues were up in arms. It’s not a wise-cracking cigar-chomping mutton-sporting Wolverine, and the debate internally became, 'Isn’t that freakin’ boring?' "

Snyder counters the execs argument with mention why Logan works.

"Isn’t it exciting to imagine Wolverine as a real guy, and he’s world-weary and he doesn’t want to fight anymore until a little girl needs him?” Snyder said.

"Logan" has a March 3, 2017 release directed by James Mangold starring Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Stephen Merchant, Doris Morgado, Eriq La Salle and Dafne Keen as X-23.

Synopsis:

In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan's attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.
