Sasha Calla is playing Supergirl in The Flash, and in a new interview, the actress says she feels honored in regards to the representation of being the first Latina version of the character.
Sasha Calle fills in V Magazine the following:
“Representation in the entertainment industry really matters, and I’m super honored, honestly [to be the first Latina Supergirl]. There was a moment when we were shooting, when Andy [The Flash director Andrés Muschietti] was like, “Hey, come over here and watch this scene on the playback monitor.” And I go over and I see her [Supergirl], and she’s in her full glory. And suddenly, I got really emotional. Because I’m looking at that, and I’m like, “Wow, I wish I would have had this when I was little.” It meant a lot to me. I turned into child Sasha watching this person [on the screen]. So it’s really important. And I’m really happy and really thankful to DC and Warner Brothers for doing this now. It’s so cool that we’re doing this, and, ya know, it’s about time.”
Sasha Calle Supergirl rumors
I don’t believe it has been officially said if Sasha Calle is playing the Kara Zor-El version of the character (recently played by Melissa Benoist) who in the comics is known for having fair skin and long blond hair, but there is a version in the comics who more resembles Sasha Calle with Cir-El, a time-traveling version of Supergirl who is brought to the past from the distant future and who is thought at first to be the daughter of Superman and Lois Lane, but was actually created by none other than Brainiac.
Rumors have also offered the Sasha Calle Supergirl is being brought in to replace the Henry Cavill Superman and that the actress and character will be a part of a new all-female DC Trinity also made up of the Gal Gadot Wonder Woman and the Leslie Grace Batgirl, and that Wonder Woman 3 will be a girl-power movie featuring the Sasha Calle Supergirl and Hawkgirl.
Footage from The Flash movie recently debuted at CinemaCon where the trades mistakenly described the Sasha Calle Supergirl as a boy, so we can guess the VFX still needs to be worked on for the flick.
While the official Supergirl reveal has yet to happen, the look of the costume has been officially revealed which does look a lot like the Henry Cavill Superman costume and set photos have also revealed Sasha Calle in action (see below).
The Flash gets released June 23, 2023 starring Ezra Miller, Ben Affleck, and Michael Keaton.
