Dave Bautista is setting the record straight about his recent weight loss after fans expressed concerns about his health.
The Knock at the Cabin actor revealed in a recent interview that his initial weight gain was intentional for his role in M. Night Shyamalanâs psychological horror film.
âI started trimming down for a particular reason. One, I started trimming down because I just got fat,â Bautista shared during an interview with social media personality Chris Van Vliet, which he posted on TikTok (watch below). âI got really big for a role and it was uncomfortably big⊠Knock at the Cabin⊠I got really big. I was like around 315 pounds, and I put the weight on really fast.â

Bautista explained that he had to gain the weight quickly âbetween filmsâ and didnât have much time to do it, leading him to put on weight by eating french fries and pancakes. He recalled the filmâs director telling him he needed to look âlike a great big guy,â but not like a powerlifter.
âLooking back at it, I probably overdid it,â Bautista admitted. âI was probably a little too big, but at the time, I was just thinking, I gotta get big. And I put on an uncomfortable amount of weight, and it took me forever to shed it off.â

As Bautista began losing weight, he noticed some surprising benefits.
âI noticed the more I trimmed down, the better I felt. And I also noticed the more I trimmed down, the better I looked on camera, the better I looked next to other actors,â he said.
However, Bautista has received comments about his appearance that made him aware of how much his size had changed.
âPeople say, âGod, youâre skinny,ââ he said. âIâve even seen online, some people worried about my health. And when I say it out loud, âIâm 6â4â 240 pounds,â which sounds like Iâm a big person. People have seen me so much bigger over the years that they think Iâm like anorexic, but Iâm still just a large human being next to your typical actor. It looks like a gorilla and itâs distracting.â
Despite the concerns, Bautista is continuing to work on his fitness and aims to drop âa few more pounds,â noting that heâs been âtraining hardâ and limiting his calorie intake to achieve his goals.
Dave Bautista can be seen in The Killerâs Game which is now out in theaters.
