Who are the Daughters Of Liberty in the Marvel Comics?

The Daughters of Liberty were created by writer Ta-Nehisi Coates, who was supposed to do the Black Superman movie, and Adam Kubert and first appeared in Captain America Vol.9 #7 (2-18).

The team’s origins are rooted in the American Revolution, where a group of women formed a secret society to support the cause of independence, which followed the Daughters of Light having a similar cause in Europe.

The Daughters of Liberty dedicated themselves to safeguarding freedom at any expense and shielding humanity from its own potential for recklessness and authority, ensuring these powers were wielded responsibly.

The team has resurfaced in the present day.

A possible connection to the MCU includes that in the comics, the team was trained in the ways of magic by Agatha Harkness, so perhaps a form of the Daughters of Liberty will be appearing in the upcoming Disney+ Agatha series.

A modern-day connection in the comics includes the Daughters of Liberty are formed to help clear the name of Captain America who was framed for the murder of General Thaddeus Ross. Harrison Ford is set to play Ross in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World movie starring Anthony Mackie as Cap.

Per the list below, we see some of the members are already or have been in the MCU, but more than likely the team will be different (similar to what has been said about the MCU Young Avengers).

The Daughters Of Liberty include:

  • Peggy Carter
  • The Dryad Harriet Tubman
  • Aja-Adanna
  • Black Widow
  • Echo
  • Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman
  • Misty Knight
  • Invisible Woman
  • Agatha Harkness
  • Ava Ayala
  • Alexa Lukin
