Now Marvel Changes Galactus

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23222:]]

Spoiler and images follow for this week’s Ultimates #2.

Say adios to another Marvel Cosmic character as you know him as it’s Galactus’ turn to get the royal cosmic shaft (plus, he’s a Fox studios-owned character).

This week’s issue of Ultimates #2 sees Galactus become — a good guy?!

I’ve actually always considered Galactus a bad guy as he kills planets and cares naught for the people living there. He’s just a big cosmic greedy gluttonous purple dude.

Actually, the argument is that Galactus is a force of nature and is just doing what he’s made to do, which is basically to balance out life and death (in the grand cosmic scheme of things).

Regardless what you think of Galactus, Marvel has now turned the World Devourer on his head. Ultimates #2 sees Galactus become a life-giving force who can restore life to dead planets.

Happen to play the Marvel Contest of Champions video game?

Well, Blue Marvel uses Iso-8 – which is the new dues ex machina cosmic super-substance – and combines it with Galactus’ original birthing chamber to essentially reverse his powers. Now while we are all crying about how Galactus has changed, what results of Galactus becoming a life-giving force could be rather cool as Al Ewing could bring in the big cosmic heavyweights. With Galactus now a life-giver, the balance in the universe is obviously upset. So how will the universe go about restoring the balance?

(Oh, yeah, and hey Marvel? How about adding a white guy to the team? I recommend Wendell Vaughn Quasar. He’s about as white bread as they come.)

Rom The Spaceknight Makes Triumphant Return To Comics

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23218:]]

Rom the Space Knight Makes Triumphant Return to Comics!

IDW and Hasbro Proudly Present the Return of ROM
on Free Comic Book Day 2016

Rom the Space Knight began life as one of the first LED-driven action figures in the late 1970s, then went on to much more acclaim as a comic book hero. Now, removed from comics for over three decades, the character is being given new life in Rom the Space Knight, an all-new comic book series from IDW Publishing.

Rom the Space Knight #0 will make its debut on the first Saturday in May as IDW’s “Gold” offering for Free Comic Book Day. The annual FCBD event sees thousands upon thousands of comics from all publishers given away for free at participating comic shops. The comic will be co-written by IDW Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall and acclaimed comic-book/TV writerChristos Gage. Art on Rom #0 will be handled by David Messina, who will also be sharing artistic duties on the ongoing Rom series. The cover art for Rom #0 is by theWild Blue Yonder team of Zach Howard and Nelson Daniel.

“It’s no hyperbole for me to say that launching a newRom comic is one of the things we’ve most wanted to make happen for fans,” said Chris Ryall. “I know this because I’m one of them. The character has been absent from comics for too long and we can’t wait to introduce this all-new version to the world.”

Rom the Space Knight tells the story of Rom, a member of the benevolent Solstar Order and greatest of the Space Knights, interstellar soldiers in a centuries-old war with the Dire Wraiths. The Wraiths are a race of alien invaders who’ve destroyed many planets and infiltrated Earth for nefarious purposes.

Rom the Space Knight #0 will feature an introductory 10-page story of Rom’s arrival on Earth, an incident that sets up an ongoing Rom series launching in July 2016.

“Many people have only heard of Rom but that’s it,” continued Ryall. “And those that do know of his past iteration might have some preconceived notion of what this series will be. And while we can promise that the DNA of the character as established with the original toy remains intact, there will be surprises galore as people experience a new universe built entirely around Rom and company.”

As an added bonus, the issue will contain additional content including character sketches, creator interviews and a glimpse of things to come. This debut represents a major launch for IDW and Hasbro next year, and this special first story will be free throughout the universe next May!

Jim Lee Draws Wonder Woman With WB Logo Shield

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23183:]]

Check out a totally awesome drawing of Wonder Woman by DC Comics co-publisher and superstar artist Jim Lee.

It’s unknown presently what the image is for, but it’s possible the Wonder Woman pic is a variant cover of some sort.

We also see that Jim Lee added the “WB” logo inside Wonder Woman’s shield.

Gal Gadot stars as the big screen version of Wonder Woman in Batman Vs. Superman and the upcoming standalone movie.

Spoiler Returns In Batman #47

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23177:]]

Obvious spoilers for today’s issue of Batman #47 follow.

Quick recap: Bruce Wayne can’t remember being Batman, may not want to be Batman, and there’s a new Mech-Batman with Jim Gordon.

Today’s issue of Batman #47 sees lots of changes and things happen.

First up: The Batman mech suit gets blown to bits in a battle with Jim Gordon and Blossom:

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23178:]]

Then it’s revealed that the Joker is alive, who also apparently has amnesia. Note: When Batman and Joker last fought during Endgame, the two were both seemingly mortally wounded; however, a chemical was present that seeped into Bruce Wayne healing him and causing him to forget who he is. Now we see that same effect looks to have happened to Joker (or has it?).

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23180:]]

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23179:]]

And here is the solicit for next issue:

Mr. Bloom’s seeds have grown into an army that may turn all of Gotham City against its new Batman. Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne meets a mysterious stranger who could start a chain of events no one can stop.

Marvel Comics Announces Civil War II

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23133:]]

In conjunction with the release of the Captain America: Civil War movie, Marvel Comics has announced a new Civil War II event which will be written by Brian Michael Bendis with art by David Marquez.

The series hits in 2016.

Via Marvel.com:

“The fun thing about CIVIL WAR [was] that the issues involved not only divided the heroes, they also divided the fans, to say nothing of the creative people,” reflects Tom Brevoort, editor of both series. “The attempt was to craft the conflict so that each side held a valid and defensible position, so that a reader could fundamentally agree with either one side or the other, with neither being painted as absolutely right or absolutely wrong. While the issues involved are different, we’ll be taking the same approach to CIVIL WAR II.”

“CIVIL WAR was a seismic event that demanded the attention of existing fans and created new ones because it tapped into the most pressing question of its day,” adds Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso. “CIVIL WAR II will do the same.”

“CIVIL WAR is rightly thought of by many as the landmark Marvel event and it’s a huge challenge to live up to the example set by Steve McNiven and [inker] Dexter Vines,” says Marquez. “Working on this book is a huge honor and an amazing opportunity to really push myself and show what I’m capable of artistically, and it’s also just great fun to get to pull out all the toys from the Marvel toy box!

“The creative team for CIVIL WAR set the bar for every following Marvel event, and I feel so lucky to be teamed up yet again with Brian Bendis and [colorist] Justin Ponsor. Having worked together over the past several years, first on MILES MORALES: ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN and just recently on INVINCIBLE IRON MAN, We have really gelled as a team; it’s almost like we can finish each other’s’ sentences, creatively. Now we get to really show what we’re capable of on Marvel’s biggest stage and I can’t wait until everyone gets to see!”

“The original CIVIL WAR is one of the most important Marvel comics ever, and we are all very excited to have come up with what we hope is a story worthy of the title,” echoes Bendis. “If you are scared of earth shattering Marvel events where no one is safe…be afraid, be very afraid.”

If I can accomplish that, then I really feel like I’ve done something with it. DC Comics Vertigo Releasing Paul Dini Batman Graphic Novel

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23091:]]

Today, DC Entertainment’s creator-driven imprint, Vertigo, announced Dark Night: A True Batman Story, from legendary writer Paul Dini (Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Lost) set to release in June 2016. The story is a harrowing and eloquent autobiographical tale of Dini’s courageous struggle to overcome a truly desperate situation, with brilliant illustrations by Eduardo Risso (100 Bullets).

An extremely personal story for Dini – and the first time he’s told it to the world – the book focuses on a night that he was assaulted and brutally beaten by strangers and left on the sidewalk. In this surprising original graphic novel, Batman is seen in a new light – not as the grim avenger of the night, but as a savior who helps a discouraged man recover from a brutal attack that left him unable to face the world. But despite how bleak his circumstances were, or perhaps because of it, Dini always imagined the Batman at his side, urging him along during his darkest moments.

“Batman is a character truly universal in his ability to entertain and inspire fans of all ages and backgrounds. As a writer of Batman stories for comics, video games and animation, I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to contribute to that legacy. But there was a time some years ago when I found myself the victim of a violent attack and the last thing that made sense to me was to continue writing stories about a fantasy crime fighter. Struggling to recover, I found myself trapped in a dark place of isolation and abuse, plagued by demons both real and imaginary, with my only choices being to remain a victim or to stand up and fight back. Not so easy as the enemy I was fighting was my own fear,” explained writer Paul Dini.

“I must admit that this is not the kind of story I typically draw; it was undoubtedly a new challenge in my career,” added artist Eduardo Risso. “This novel gave me the opportunity to do something different with the graphic narrative. I didn’t have any idea about what aesthetic to use, but I was sure that I didn’t want to do the same thing I was used to doing. I hope you like it.”

Dini continued, “DC and Vertigo have given me the unique opportunity to tell this personal story, rendered better than I could have dreamed by the powerful artwork of Eduardo Risso. It is my hope  that Dark Night: A True Batman Story will both provide an interesting window into a writer’s mind in a time of crisis, and perhaps inspire other victims of violence to search for the heroes inside themselves.”

Dark Night: A True Batman Story will be available in comic book shops on June 15, 2016 and available everywhere books are sold on June 21, 2016.

Dan Slott Still At It: 24Hrs Bashing Batman Vs. Superman

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23090:]]

We’re guessing the next issues of Spider-Man and Silver Surfer may be late, with the blaming lying with the Batman Vs. Superman footage released last night during Gotham.

Marvel Comics writer Dan Slott has spent the last 24 hours blasting the footage, Batman Vs. Superman, Zack Snyder, Man of Steel and Superman on Twitter (read Part 1 and Part 2).

Slott isn’t happy with Snyder’s portrayal of the Man of Steel as the writer feels it’s a “dark/grim/joyless Superman.” Slott goes on to defend his opinions stating, “From watching 2 trailers & all of MAN OF STEEL, my opinions are firmly based and far from ‘senseless.'” Slott even argues to ask Cap fans if they are happy with the character’s portrayal in the Marvel movies, and then to go ahead and ask if the Superman fans are happy with the Henry Cavill version. Slott argues Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers was “on point” for Cap, while Man of Steel was “FAR off point” for Superman.

Slott continues with mention if they switched directors he would be “less wary.”

Marvel’s Dan Slott Continues Blasting Batman Vs. Superman On Twitter

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23081:]]

A couple of hours ago saw Marvel Comics writer Dan Slott voice his thoughts on the new Batman Vs. Superman footage that debuted earlier on Gotham.

Dan isn’t too happy by what he is seeing regarding Superman, and he also wasn’t a big fan of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.

Following Cosmic Book News having made note of what Slott had to say (where he deleted his “I dunno. Do you really think Superman would snap one of his enemy’s necks?” comment), Slott has continued blasting both Batman Vs. Superman and Man of Steel on Twitter as well as having to defend himself against accusations of being a Marvel shill, which sees DC Comics Batman writer Scott Snyder brought into the conversation.

Marvel’s Dan Slott Has Coronary Over Batman Vs. Superman Gotham Footage

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23074:]]

Fan-favorite Marvel Comics writer of Spider-Man and Silver Surfer, Dan Slott, appears to not have taken favorably to the new Batman Vs. Superman footage which was released earlier during Gotham.

Slott took to Twitter to voice his disassatifaction even though – like the rest of us – he hasn’t seen the whole movie. Slott also appears to not be a big fan of Man of Steel.

Before any accussations of Slott being a Marvel shill begin, Dan does state he’s a big fan of The Flash and Supergirl.

*For the record, Dan didn’t have a coronary – at least we hope not.

Update: Dan Slott has posted even more tweets blasting Batman Vs. Superman and Zack Snyder.

espnW Teams with Marvel Comics for “IMPACT25” List

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23004:]]

espnW Teams with Marvel Comics for “Super” Take on 2015 “IMPACT25” List

espnW has teamed with Marvel Comics to create “super” takes on the 2015 “IMPACT25” list, which recognizes athletes and influencers who have made the biggest mark on women in sports this year – 24 nominees, plus The espnW Woman of the Year. A collection of Marvel artists will utilize their various creative styles to highlight the special talents of the honorees and create a super version of each.

To kick off the series, Marvel created an illustration of U.S. Women’s National Team star Carli Lloyd alongside popular Marvel Super Hero, Captain Marvel. Lloyd’s memorable and indefatigable play during the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup resulted in her team hoisting the trophy as champions and earned her the Golden Ball as the best player of the tournament. The full roster and artist renditions of the 2015 “IMPACT25” list will be revealed Monday, Dec. 7, on espnW.com/impact25.

“Each of the IMPACT25 honorees is incredible in their own right, be it on the field or in the boardroom,” said Alison Overholt, editor-in-chief, espnW. “There have been some truly superhuman accomplishments in the last year, and there is no one better than the artists of Marvel to depict these women as the heroes that they are.”

“Marvel’s mission is to celebrate the hero’s journey—and espnW’s IMPACT25 is a uniquely incredible way to do that,” said Sana Amanat, Marvel Dir. of Content Development. “Like our powerful heroes, the IMPACT25 have made a remarkable impression on the world and this is our salute to them. By merging this exceptional group of women with our mighty Marvel artists we are able to truly capture their super human feats in a program that brings together talent from on and off the field.”

As part of the collaboration, the hosts of the Women of Marvel podcast – Sana Amanat, Adri Cowan, Judy Stephens and Emily Shaw – will be guests on the espnW Presents: Be Honest with Cari Champion podcast, debuting December 7, and will also welcome Overholt and espnW deputy editor Jennifer Holmes on Women of Marvel on a date to be determined. In addition, espnW.com will have exclusive behind-the-scenes looks at the process of transforming these real-life heroes into larger-than-life Super Heroes.

Some of the groundbreakers on last year’s IMPACT25 included: The espnW Woman of the Year, Becky Hammon, who became the first woman to hold a coaching position in the NBA; Michele Roberts, who made history as the first female executive director of the National Basketball Players Association; Condoleezza Rice, whose appointment to the College Football Playoff Selection Committee made headlines across the country; tennis star Serena Williams, who overcame several injuries to end the year as the world No. 1; and Little League phenom Mo’ne Davis, whose 70 mph fastball made her a household name.

Frank Miller Returning For The Dark Knight IV

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22982:]]

DC Comics will be doing The Dark Knight IV, which will be written exclusively by Frank Miller.

Miller confirmed the news to Newsarama.

“I thoroughly applaud what [Brian’s] doing,” Miller said. “But now that he’s doing his, it’s now a four-part series. I’m doing the fourth.”

The Dark Knight III: The Master Race comes out November 25th, which is actually written by Brian Azzarello with Miller basically on board as a consultant.

The article states Miller “indicated he was aware of Azzarello’s story, and he emphasized that he supported it” and goes on to note Miller said that after he read The Dark Knight III in full, Miller intends to create his own fourth chapter. It’s not known if Miller will both write and draw the new series (Andy Kubert is doing the art for DKIII).

The Dark Knight III was initially said to be the last of the DK chapters, but Miller now says it’s a four-part series as the article notes:

“According to Miller’s language that the series is now ‘four-part,’ the former ‘trilogy’ would presumably now end after the fourth volume.”

Now Namor Is Getting Killed Off In The Comics

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22955:]]

Say good-bye to “Marvel’s First Mutant” as Namor is biting the big one in the pages of Squadron Supreme.

This shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise seeing how Namor is reportedly licensed out to Universal Studios, meaning Marvel can’t use the character in their movies or TV (Marvel also cancelled Fantastic Four, disbanded the team and killed off Wolverine).

While Squadron Supreme #1 isn’t due out until December 16th, series writer James Robinson let the news be known in an interview with ComicBook.com.

“I think that as you’ll see in Squadron, Namor’s death will open up a lot of amazing story opportunities which will evolve in the future,” Robinson offered.

In the comics, Namor has been closely tied to the Fantastic Four, X-Men as well as the Avengers.

Advanced Review: Superman: American Alien #1 (of 7)

The last few years have been tough on the overall character of Superman. He has been lacking a true form of identity, shifting between a depowered “everyman,” an infected Doomsday clone, as well as the most recent, “god of power” incarnation — while the character of Clark Kent has been left by the wayside to fall into his own obscure oblivion until further called upon.

Well, look no further for a glimmer of hope to bring Clark Kent back to the forefront! Max Landis has crafted a tale of pure joy and wonderment in his Superman: American Alien book, and it will invigorate even the most skeptical of readers, I should know, I am one!

Going into this book, I was dreading what may yet defile DC’s “Golden Boy” even more than what he has endured in the recent past. But from page one, Landis encapsulated the sheer amazement that those tales all lacked and by page two, I wasn’t believing that a boy could fly, but I was damn sure rooting for him to! Landis has woven a tale that brings the heart and soul back to the Superman mythos, and no one should pass it by!

We follow a young Clark Kent that is both frightened of himself and by what may be done to him if anyone learns his secret. His journey is laced with nostalgia and overpowering in youthful invigoration. Readers will find themselves grinning emphatically over Clark’s exuberance and innocent wonder and will feel connected to the character more than they have in years. But this tale is not purely about young Clark, it is about the Kent’s as a family dealing with extraordinary things while trying to teach their adopted son how to act like a man regardless of what his DNA may say.

Landis couldn’t tell this story alone, and Nick Dragotta is the perfect artistic compliment to his tale of a prepubescent Clark. Dragotta’s bold, clean lines accentuate that youthful vigor ever present in the tale while creating crisp action sequences that will make your heart soar!

Max Landis has stated that each issue will revolve around completely different parts of Clark’s life with a different artist for each part as well. If each issue is as complete and thrilling as this first one, fans will not only clamor to get back into the Superman fold but they will bring as many readers with them as they can!

Listen To Rod Stewart’s Batman Superman Spider-Man Song

In the imaginations of children everywhere (some adults, too!) the superhero world holds no boundries as everyone’s favorite characters can share the same universe.

That’s exactly what takes place in the above song by Rod Stewart, who created the “Batman Superman Spiderman” as a bedtime lullaby for his 4-year-old son, with Toy Story’s Woody and Buzz even getting a mention.
