Who is Chainsaw Man?

Chainsaw Man is Denji, a young man who became a devil-human hybrid after making a contract with his pet devil-dog, Pochita. Once a debt-ridden Devil Hunter working for the yakuza, Denji was betrayed and killed. In his final moments, Pochita fused with him, transforming Denji into Chainsaw Man, a brutal fighter with chainsaws emerging from his body. As Chainsaw Man, Denji battles devils and other deadly enemies in a violent world where survival is all that matters.

Chainsaw Man started as a manga created by Tatsuki Fujimoto. It first appeared in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in December 2018. The series quickly gained popularity for its violent action, dark humor, and emotional storytelling. The first part of the manga, known as the Public Safety Arc, ran until 2020 and was followed by a second part that continues on the Shonen Jump+ digital platform.

In 2022, the Chainsaw Man anime adaptation premiered, produced by the studio MAPPA. The anime introduced the story to a global audience, following Denji’s early days as Chainsaw Man and his work for the Public Safety Devil Hunters. Now, the story continues on the big screen with Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, adapting one of the manga’s most popular arcs.
