The Captain America: Brave New World Red Carpet premiere is currently taking place at the Chinese Theater in Los Angeles. Itâs learned protestors have gathered chanting âFree Palestineâ and âBoycott Disney.â
Marvel was supposed to start live-streaming the event at 8:30ET/5:30PM PT, but the video feed hasnât started, which may be because of the protests. Instead, Marvel is playing the Captain America: Brave New World trailer.
The video (watch below) shows security arriving at the scene. Pro-Palestine protestors can be seen with signs stating âDisney Supports Genocide,â âBoycott Captain America,â and âSabra Has Got To Go.â In Marvel Comics, Sabra is Jewish, a mutant, and the first superhuman created to serve the Mossad. In Captain America: Brave New World, Israeli actress Shira Haas plays Sabra but while the character is Israeli, Sabra is not associated with the Mossad or a mutant and now works for the U.S. government, as confirmed by producer Nate Moore.
Media outlets are posting from the event including interviews with the actors, so the Captain America: Brave New World Red Carpet premiere is underway. The actors are arriving including Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford, and aside from Marvelâs live coverage being down, the protest doesnât seem to have impacted things.
Marvel responds
Marvel responded to Variety about the protest: âWhile our characters and stories are inspired by the comics, they are always freshly imagined for the screen and todayâs audience, and the filmmakers are taking a new approach with the character Sabra who was first introduced in the comics over 40 years ago.â
